OK, but the word 'fading' is completely off-base here. That implies that USC is strongly on his mind and ND is sliding off into the background. Nothing could be further from the truth. He left his OV without committing, which is huge for ND. Then he admits that he needs to take a step back and think about things and not be 'emotional' about the decision (the shine of the USC visit is wearing off, and now it's time to be objective instead of rash), which again, is good for ND.

And he says it's 50-50 (and the interviewer later said that he feels that Max is truly torn between the 2 schools). Immediately after the visit, there were USC recruits thinking he was all USC, and now he's at 50-50. How is that fading? If anything, this last day has been trending upwards for ND.

Seriously, these are 18 year old kids. I don't mean to take the fun out of it, but on that basis alone, no one has any idea what tomorrow will bring.

Then look at this past year. Since last year at this time, look what happened to our class down the stretch, and we are in the championship game (a result of Kelly and Co., developing what we gots).

"Join us to win multiple National Championships," end of conversation.

Initially I felt a little uneasy about this whole 50-50 comment. But when you read the full article (LA eluded to this), at the end he says that he is going to make it a business decision and take all emotion out of it. If he truly does do that. It still looks good for us.

He's a smart kid with 2 very good choices. Something is pulling at him though in favor of us IMO. Since the Stanford game Max can't get us out of his mind. Hopefully that will lead him to choose us, but you just never know when it comes to the recruiting circus.

fwiw Sapp is so not worried about Max. Two important facts: Redfield didn't recommit, and USC didn't overtake ND, even if it made up some ground. Also, we'll be able to continue to make him priority number one, while USC is still recruiting other top DBs. ND is still in good shape.

Here's all I'll say...

25 days is an eternity in recruiting. Anything happen between now and when he picks at the all-star game. With that being said, as things stand right now, I have very minimal concern.... and there is almost no point in paying any attention to interviews & half-quotes. When things eventually shake out one way or another, it'll be obvious.

That's not including our TEs which are basically skill position players and are largely elite. Obviously many of these guys aren't "elite" but you can see a trend in the right direction. Not to mention a lot of the unheralded guys are now major contributors.

This staff has far exceed my expectations and are pulling in one of the best classes in ND history. Not to mention they have the luxury of turning away 4* guys at this point.

I'm basically baffled by your post.

This coaching/recruiting staff has gotten better and better each year. Many programs are "where 4 Stars go to die". These guys have proven that they can coach-up at each position and make adjustments based on personnel. I still believe this should be one of the main considerations for any recruit. Baffled by post as well.

For those of you worried, step away from the ledge, take a deep breath and relax. Let me recap the Top Ten reasons why we are in very good shape.

10. He did not recommit.
9. He said he had to take the emotions out of the decision.
8. Those emotions were stirring because he just had a vist with Hawkins and some other recruits.
7. Emotions wane over time.
6. He has a business decision to make. Graduations rates at ND vs. USC, no contest.
5. Kelly went in and had a heart to heart with the parents with out Max. That tells me he has the kids best interest at heart and isn't just trying to sell him.
4. Kiffin is the snake oil salesman. When he first rolls into Dodge City everyone loves him, but when they find out the tonic doesn't work the crowd of disbelievers grows bigger and bigger.
3. When the disbelievers grow in size, the salesman pitches harder, but comes off as desparate.
2. We are playing for a NC. USC seems to be in disarray at the moment.

And the #1 reason we will land him.....
1. If need be we can get Diaco a Venti from Starbucks and send him out to close.

I'll take our staff in a recruiting battle like this any day, even with a kid from SC's backyard. Max clearly has a maturity to him that's causing him to look at factors beyond football. Couple that with our staff's tenacity and I'm allowing myself to feel good about this one.
