I can't wait for this game. Mark my words, our first play on offense will be a play action BOMB to Chris Brown. And he will catch it.

We need to make USC one dimensional and put ALL the pressure on Wittek and his arm

Jesse Palmer just said "USC has no chance to win this game" on the Nebraska halftime show.. Now all we need is Pollack to come out and kiss our *** and we're screwed.

Wow Tuitt will be a wild man tomorrow! I expect our D-line to rotate a lot like they have been the last couple of weeks. Expecting a big day from Nix and co. And also expecting some big plays from our secondary!

The win is what everyone wants. I know I do. Its been too long since we have really taken it to USC and even longer since we have the chance at a national championship. Those are my focus. But there is the little added bonus of us winning tomorrow that Mark may will dance around ESPN studio as a leprechaun. Victory would be that much sweeter.

Okay here is something I have been thinking about. If you win the toss, what do you do? Do you take the ball and give their young QB more time to think and try and ice him or do you give him the ball and try and let the D stomp the confidence out of him early?

Thoughts?

Well with this defense I prefer deferring no matter what. But Brian Kelly is a lot smarter then me so I digress.

I think both would be fine, but I would take the ball.

March down the field and put immediate pressure on their young QB.

Personally I take the ball. I want to take whatever crowd they have out early, and I am scared of the big play ability they have. I think we should be able to shove the ball down their throat, so I'd take the ball and drive down the field on a 7 minute run heavy drive for 7 points.

Play defense first.

Defense is our best strong suit. If you want to silence the crowd, let them set the tone. Let USC receive.

See, I thought defense first, but I really don't think that puts any pressure on them. They would probably come out with some play action and runs, then go three and out. It wouldn't take the wind out of the crowd's sails or put pressure on their young QB. We would be simply doing what is expected. A slow, low scoring tempo.

That's why I say we take the ball, march down the field and score. Then let our defense put the pressure on.

Just my thought.

Defense goes out and gets a 3 and out and gives Everett confidence to march down the field is the flip side. But I agree here. I think getting the ball first gives U$C less time to make offensive adjustments when they see our D gameplan.

Their fans don't expect this. They have the best WR tandum in the country, and they think some RS freshman is the 2nd coming of Christ. They are curious to see what Max can do. Shut out that idea down right away and leave them no hope.

They don't expect the #1 scoring defense in the country to play good defense?

They think they have a great offense. And they think our defense is overrated. I mean, they're fans. Even the media is building their hope.

When you want to set the tone, put your best foot forward. Let our defense set the mood.

This is the kind of game where the first drive is insanely important. USC is thinking upset. If we get a three and out and drive down the field and score they will likely fold.

The SC fans I know from work think Lee is going to light our 'soft' secondary up.... Though most also think we are going to win.

I just don't think it puts any pressure on them. They're not down by anything and it's not like they think that they are going to score every single drive. But if we could put pressure on them early, it actually accomplishes real pressure. It forces them to be reactive.

Just my opinion though.

The only worry I have with our D is cross routes by Lee and Wood when they get the ball behind our LB's. If they get that seam with a cross route it will be tough. I still think getting ball first and eating up a sh**load of clock and scoring would be ideal. I don't want to see adjustments to our D gameplan right away.

Well of the two scenarios, which is more likely?

1) We kick. They go 3 and out.

2) They kick. We score a TD on opening drive.

See, I think the 3 and out is much more likely, which is why IMO we kick.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?: a friend tells you that SC will win, but offer no explanation as to why.

IMO, I'm leaning more towards #1, and honestly I think right before I quoted your message I was thinking two. But I really think we game plan like we did against OKLA and kickoff at first and ask for Max to put together a long drive to try and score on us. We're going to have two safeties deep all game and their going to have to nickle and dime it early. Yes that may lead to Max getting cofortable early, but I think Kelly likes our chances with our Defesne against their offense at this point of the season. USC is going to show us a lot on their opening drive, and that gives Diaco plenty of time when we're on offense running one of our 12-14 play drives. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in the Miami game where we were supposidly going to be tested with the speed of their receivers we kicked off first. And then again, when our secondary was going to get tested again against OKLA we kicked off.

Worst case scenario for first drive of the game is a turnover by our offense. That's what would give them the most confidence. Play defense first
