I am not optimistic, exactly, but I'm daring to hope.

That is a nice spin on Allgator's post, but really what Allgator is doing is making up some BS about Kiffin and Redfield trolling and then offering the most likely scenrio--that MR will stay with USC--as proof of the conspiracy. I think that sounds pretty far-fetched personally. These kids aren't brain-washed and ND has a lot going for it.

IF there is a flip here, especially with Hawkins, I wonder how that will impact recruitment of Moore/Alexander/Luke/Willis? anybody with a read on how many CBs/Ss ND is looking to take in their remaining spots? I know its been discussed before, I'm just not on here enough to recall where.

Sapp previously said that we are in the market for a pass rusher, a DB and a best available; more recently, he has said that we are in the market for a DB, a slot/RB like Folston and a best available (with eyes on Muhammad and Savaiinea). I'm not quite sure what to believe, but it sounds like the staff is not planning to take more than three more guys in this class.

My guess (just a guess) is that if we got one of Hawkins or Redfield to flip, leaving two spots, we would still take any of those elite DBs that NDBoiler mentioned with one of the remaining spots. But maybe not ... maybe we want Folston and Muhammad with the two other spots. Or maybe we would take Willis or Alexander (the most highly ranked DBs we are after) over Muhammad but not Moore (the lowest ranked) (I kind of doubt that though) ... I just don't know.

It seems to me that we do not really NEED another slot/RB in this class. I would be fine with using all three of the remaining spots on defense: one elite pure CB (Hawkins or Alexander or Luke), one elite safety/CB hybrid (Willis or Redfield or Moore), and Muhammad (or Savaiinea if Anzalone flips). But the staff seems to have Folston fever, and Clement is a top 100 RB now, and I think K. Muhammad is a great player. So who knows.

Muhammad has a spot no matter what, I would think. You can't really turn down Redfield or Hawkins at this point. LJ Moore seems to be a ND lean. Not sure what is up with the rest of the guys, but space left is getting thin.

Maybe I'm the only one, but with elite talent like these guys, you deny a 5th year for 4- years of Redfield/Muhammad/Folston/Isaac/Hawkins. I'd have no problem with the staff passing on Cierre's 5th year if it meant we'd get Folston for 4. It's a no-brainer, imo.

You won't find many who agree. Cierre is an NFL talent. We don't know what Folston is.

I'm sure it's case by case, but Brian Kelly himself has said it comes down to a guy helping you for 4 years vs. 1 year. I've tried to find this quote but for the life of my I cannot. It's from 2011. I guess I don't care what others think as long as the coach agrees with me ;).

I don't think he was alluding to a 3 year starter though. In some cases, I would agree. Cierre is not a good example IMO.

That is not what saying. All I am saying is Kiffin allows these visits knowing he will get the last visit. He has been around recruiting long enough to understand kids want to go to great games on somebody else's dime. He believes if he gets to be the last person that whispers in a kids ear that he will win and he usually does. Also distance is a major factor in recruiting. ND has a lot going for itself but so does USC. And I think we can both agree nobody is Stanford.

I'll dumb it down. Think Wayne Lyons. The Florida schools could talk all day about thier academics, but in the end of the day, they just aren't Stanford.

ND is differnt from other schools because of the combo of academics, faith, etc. It's not for everyone. It's not necessarily better (depending on your goals, values, preferences). But it is differnt. So while the choice between Florida, Georgia, Alabama, FSU, Clemson, and other schools will generally come down to recent success and salesmenship (unless they are a fan), the choice betweeen those schools and ND or Stanford is a little different.

Maybe it's just me, but to me SC is more like a football program without real relationships. I see their guys get excited at times, but just watching l get an overall sense that this is a job for them instead of an experience. Just another step they have to take to get to the NFL. If that's all they're interested in I guess that's fine, but I would think most of these kids want a little more.

Well, I'd agree with everything but the last phrase word for word.

I also add that I think part of being a selling a slick product like USC is to not seem worried, at all, that anyone could top you. Kiffin has that part down.

No one is Stanford in terms of admissions standards and reputation (perhaps if Duke could play football), but I prefer a well-rounded Catholic liberal arts education! God, country, ND, is a lot better that Me, me, me.

I've said it before. Most kids chose USC because of their utter confidence in their own awesomeness. USC confirms this for them, kind of like getting into the cool fraternity.
