There was a thread about his "silent leader" and they thought it was Michigan. Others expressed their belief that it was us. Glad to prove some Michigan fans wrong.

He visited ND about a bjillion times before though. Why would someone assume it wouldn't be us?

Crazy skunkbears.

Well he visited Ann Arbor a couple times too. He also was at the UM vs ND game last week so i probably would have thought the same thing

Elmer is listed on IE's front page at the Top of the '13 Class.

Up at three am looking through the updated news after today's won and I see this. What a great day. Beat a ranked team, watched our young d line make huge plays and we get a top level recruit. Beautiful

I saw this tweet right before kickoff. It was a great start! Welcome to the team Steven! Great decision. You got to think this helps NDs recruiting with RBs. A top OL committing.....Good line last year..in line for good OL this year...and a great start for the following year. It should look enticing running behind them.

Says he knew ND was the right choice last week when at the end of the UM game everyone in the crowd was going nuts and he was pissed that ND lost.

This Elmer is going to be a better OL recruit than anyone Michigan has landed in the last 4 recruiting classes. Awesome.

I would say definitely Kalis, and maybe Magnuson might be as good if not better prospects than Banner in their class already just this year. There is no doubt they are bringing in some big time OL. The real question is who once Denard leaves, how do they generate offense. Their current and future RB situation is dismal, their WR position is dismal, and Gardner is another QB recruited for Richrods offense, not the pro style, and he doesnt have near the explosiveness to make thing happen that Denard does.

Anyhow back to Elmer, as long as we keep recruiting quality OL, I have no doubt Kelly will be able to manufacture offense just like he said he could. The difference between us an UM is we are also bringing in some talent at the skill positions to complement these big uglies.

We could have one of the most balanced teams in the country down the road. Great defense combined with an explosive offense.

We'll wait and see, though.

Lol Suddenly there is a Banner hate train.

Interesting that all this is coming out after he said he almost committed to Michigan. Before that people were all over his nuts. I supposed Kalis and Magnuson are also overrated, right?

I don't get the hate on Banner at all. Kid has crazy upside.

My comment was directed strictly at guys they have currently committed or have signed in their last few classes. Elmer is a budding 5:s: who is a lock to be a top 10 OT prospect. Hands down better than Magnuson and probably better than Kalis in the eyes of scouting services. That's not to take anything away from those guys as they are also awesome prospects... my point was more to make people realize just how awesome Elmer is, not knock anyone.

Midland High star Steven Elmer 'pretty solid' in football commitment to Notre Dame - MLive.com

Obviously written from a UM perspective given the title of the article, but don't be alarmed.

But he has no second thoughts. He has made a verbal commitment, but cannot sign an official letter-of-intent until February of 2013.

“Sometimes people change their minds, but I’m pretty solid with this,” Elmer said. “Unless something terrible happens, I’m going to play for Notre Dame. It’s not done until the papers are signed, but it’s pretty done. The time will fly by.”

I know I already mentioned this, but still great to hear:
“It didn’t really hit me until the Michigan game. I was there as their recruit and it was an incredible game and the place was filled and going crazy ... if there was going to be anything to sell me on Michigan, that game was it. But it didn’t pump me up at all. It made me upset that Notre Dame lost. That’s when I realized how much I liked Notre Dame.”

Has been told he will play left tackle.

Elmer Embracing Role As Recruiter

Free article. Basically saying Elmer is trying to be a recruiter for ND.

Love this nugget:

"As the first and only 2013 verbal commitment, Elmer believes it’s his duty to serve as a cornerstone for future recruiting."
