His elbow is clearly down before he reaches the endzone

Nothing indisputable in that replay, not to mention his forward progress was stopped before that and by all of the players' reactions a whistle was blown.

Exactly. His progress was stopped and he used that double pump move to inch closer to the goal line. Huge stop for ND. Nice to see a clear look at that elbow, though. Extra reassurance that we earned that win and weren't handed it. Thanks for posting.

I just love that ESPN is squirming. Can you imagine their production meetings?

I've seen this gif 100 times. I don't know how you can say his elbow is down. It's obstructed by Farleys' shoe.

That said, it may have been down...it may not have been. Call on the field stands. We win.

The ball is also moving in his hand and he doesn't fully posess it until he pulls it back behind the endzone line. Its hard to see in this replay, but is clear as day on tivo.

I posted this in the other last play thread also:

Just rewatched it for the 100th time.

Not even close.

6-0 !!!

ESPN and College Gameday were there to see us lose. We ruined their day. Those idiots can take a ride on our suck stick.

His elbow was down…and there was no indisputable video evidence to overturn the call on the field. Besides bout time these calls went ND’s way for a change and this takes nothing away from a stout defense. Just saying.

- Every other angle confirms that there was nothing but ground underneath his arms.
- another angle on ICON that shows his elbow hits before he extends, but you can tell where the ball was in relation to the goal line.
- This angle shows that when it went down the ball was not across the goal line

His forward progress was stopped before he made this move. Rule 4-1-3-a says “A live ball becomes dead … when a ball carrier is so held that his forward progress is stopped.” The action before this part of the video shows the stop.

I agree that it shouldn't have been overturned. But I'm pretty sure I can't see his elbow in the gif.

The fact(s) also remain that Notre Dame got in convincingly on the first possession after Stanford won the toss, played to Stanford's style "smash mouth football," gave the Cardinal 4 chances to punch it in and they didn't get it done. Drama or not, the Cardinal came up short and they left it up to the refs.

They already started-tonight Pollock and Palmer (the P P BOYS ) stated that by strength of schedule Notre Dame has no chance. Stanford?Mich State?Mich?Miami?just dont count. Man I dont give a %$#@ what anyone else says about this team. They have done the job/they have made their statement/they will win more games-maybe not all of their remaining games but Notre Dame now has the nations eyes. Its great to see people squirm. I dont get what everyone is afraid of Notre Dame cant compete/Notre Dame is soft/Notre Dame plays nobody/Notre Dame is living in the past/Notre Dame needs to be in a conference (my personal favorite) just check with us in Dec-this is a game bunch of Irish! P S STANFORD DID NOT SCORE AT THE END OF THE GAME.

Guys my seat is literally at the perfect angle to have seen this play, straight on to the goal line. Not only was he clearly and obviously stopped and the whistle blown before his elbow being down became an issue, espn has replay showing his elbow (unobscured) clearly down before the ball crosses. It was really close, so they're using it to generate ratings. that's all.

And it would have put them in position to tie, not win. ESPN is drumming up drama at this point, nothing less.

The side judge will make this call most of the time. It doesn't look like he could have seen the elbow (we can't) so it would seem he called it based on his forward momentum being stopped.

Watching the play in slo-mo, you tend to lose the real time motion of the play. Very close either way. It wasn't going to be over turned if called either way.

Admitted bias but I thought he was stopped. First push, no. Second push followed immediately by a third push, stopped. At that point he twists and reaches with his arms. I thought he had lost his momentum.

Too bad that ESPN probably wouldnt play this if it was sent to them...

....they just luv the controversy. If you watched the late game on ESPN and noticed the scrolling stuff at the bottom of the screen it had something to the effect of 'ND wins on controversial goal line stand.....' or something like that.....oh well....gotta love that the envious folks are back! That's what 6-0 will do for ya......WOO HOO!

At the point of this GIF, you can see both Nix and Tuitt getting off the pile or walking away from the pile. The whistle had blown it dead at this point. You can also see Motta basically getting up and off Taylor.

I think you're right. And the analysis in the post above seems to confirm. I just don't think we can keep flashing that gif as proof that his elbow was down (as the analysis in the post also notes).

Okay, I'm done with this part of the game. It's a great win. On to BYU!

and for the record, I wish the emphasis on this single play would be rectified by the demons at ESPN and other nay-sayers that this is on the Pac-12 referee squad versus Stanford. The Irish can only play defense, not make the call nor the review.

that is all

GO IRISH!!!!!!

This is pretty good...I think its clear the refs whistled it dead.

in addition, I wish someone would do one for the mysterious whistle play in the fouth quarter where Taylor claims he stopped, and the line stopped....

I watched it a number of times...there was no audible whistle noise...where in the meatchicken game I heard it in the broadcast...it is possible he heard one I guess but the biggest issue is, he did not appear to stop, I could not see any lineman stop, and finally NONE of it matters because Farley was unblocked...the result does not change in any scenario....all-in-all I call flat Bullshit on Stanford on that excuse.

If there are whistles in the stands...I'll be honest...I don't like that. Needs to stop. However...from my playing days, I recall the band leader had....you guessed it...a whistle...so it may be innocent...just need to make sure if it is being used in an honest capacity, that it does not interfere with play...

I thought the one bad call was toilolo's catch where he tumbled out of bounds...I would not have overruled that as a catch...and guess what, that was a bad spot after..., BUT, Stanford overcame both with a first down, so the scenario I thought the refs bungled had ZERO impact on the game.

I still don't know where FOX found that Relic to discuss this...and WTF ESPN analysts were thinking... clean win to ND.

I also love Meatchicken fans...I mean I get the issue with the whistles...I do...I'd be pissed too...and yes, I know both teams are impacted Equally...however neither Stanford nor Michigan seem to grasp that SUBTLETY. But still...whistles are not cool, and should not happen. It can impact the game. Yes, it happens all over...and yes it is indicative of meatchicken fans to hang it on us like we invented it...yes it is typical of meatchicken fans to claim we have mysterious calls go our way moreso than anyone...its simply who they are.

Need I remind folks of the "who knows where it came from" camera angles to overrule an Armando Allen TD against Meatchicken??? And there are many more... AS well ND NEVER, EVER, EVER gets a true home field advantage because we use everyone else's refs. So for those fvcktards to spout off about mysterious things happening at ND...well talk to your conference refs IDIOT!

Every fan base conveniently forgets the breaks they get...and focuses on the "we got screwed" call. Only Meatchicken fans are stupid enough to expect the rest of us to see it from their perspective. They remind me of the little kid who closes his eyes and walks around thinking no one can see him...its all about their perspective and feeble/underdeveloped intelect. I don't want Michigan to lose again because it helps us if they keep winning...but I hope we cave their skulls in next year at their house so they crawl under a rock and STFU.

The Supreme Court has reviewed the tape and their ruling was: Stanford was SNUFFED!

Lets move on.
