FYI most of his offers were at safety. He liked that ND was going to give him a shot at RB. I wonder how he feels about this switch.

Is he a legit 5'11"? If so I could see him being effective. He has great agility... not excellent top end speed but good enough agility to play DB as effectively as, say, Julian Edelman.

I was thinking the same thing... hopefully he will be fine at CB. I trust the staff on this one, but I wasn't sure he had the top end speed. But I guess what he doesn't have in that he can make up for in agility.

Tuesdays with Brian Kelly: Aug. 28 - YouTube

I noticed at the end of the video, Coach Kelly mentioned Cam McDaniel as a person who "came from a spread" and inferred that he is working on the hybrid RB/Receiver position. I thought he was moved to corner this summer, so I checked the team roster on und.com and Cam is indeed listed as "Running Back/Cornerback". Interesting...

Yeah, he's been moved around a couple times, but he's been on the offensive side for a couple weeks now.

If Cam gets a couple touches I won't be upset. He is not as electric as some of the other guys, but he can play. Anyone who has seen his highlight video can attest to the fact that he is good with the ball in his hands. I wouldn't mind seeing him get used a little in the passing game out of the slot - as all players at the position are cross-trained to do.

Cam is 5'10"/195 without breakaway speed, but he has excellent body control and shiftiness. He was way under-recruited despite being a dominant player at a Texas high school football power because of his size (and honestly, probably his pigment).

Wes Welker is 5'9" 185 without breakaway speed, but he has other-wordly body control. It allows him to run super-precise routes and consistently beat the first would-be tackler. Wes was way under-recruited despite being a dominant player at an Oklahoma high school football power because of his size (and honestly, probably because of his pigment).

I'm obviously not saying Cam will definitely be the next Welker. He isn't the first 5'10"/190 shifty white guy who was good in high school to come around since Welker came out in 2000. Plus, Welker's pass-catching skills (despite the Super Bowl drop) are insane, and his ability to "think football" is also off the charts. We don't really have any idea where Cam is at as a pass catcher or as a football thinker. He looked like a decent receiver in his highlight video, but obviously highlight videos don't feature drops.

All in all, I definitely won't be upset if/when I see Cam in the huddle over the first couple weeks of the season.

I would love to see Cam get some touches, anyone asked about him always says the same thing...great kid, unbelievable work ethic. I agree with Rhode, he was vastly underrated and I fully expect him to develope into something like a Riddick/Toma lovechild!

Yeah, Kelly said that Cam worked exclusively at RB this week, presumably because Carlisle and Wood are unavailable. I hope he does get some touches on Saturday. I'd like to see what he can do.

I'd like to see him get some touches too. I think he's solid and I'm glad we got him.. He'll have his moments, I can't wait to watch.

He is a good kid. A program is always better with a guy like him around. He has always done what the coach asked.

His shuttle speed is off the chart, so he has explosiveness extrordinare, which helps his change of direction. He has sure hands. He played really well in the spring as cornerback.

The offense would be very well advised to work him into the sudent body - receiver rotation, at slot or running back.

I was SO impressed with mr. Cam yesterday. Very quick and sure handed. With all the depth at RB , I would love to see him at our slot (as I have said since day one and seeing his sub 4 shuttle).

The kid is a player. He will likely get more than a few touches next season when Theo and Cierre are gone. He is a solid back and great team guy.

No surprise here. The kids tape was ridiculous out of high school. He's got a great football head.

I saw him pretty up close at last year's Wake Forest game. His shoulder's seemed huge. He's a stud, and he can go. I think he has really good football instincts.

I think he looks much bigger this year.

Wanted to bump this thread. Cam looked really good on the last drive last night. Good for Cam, glad to see him get some touches.

He might be the best hard nose runner we have. Yes the other guys are faster and better overall. But running up the gut cam is the man.

Cam runs with great vision, great balance, and great toughness. He's the kind of guy the New England Patriots sign as an undrafted FA or 7th rounder and then he ends up being a really effective NFL player. Arm tackles DO NOT bring him down.

In my unpopular opinion, the other guys are NOT better overall, and for "effective football speed" between the handoff and the edge or the hole, are not faster either. I believe that unless it is Will Mahone, Cam McDaniel is the toughest/strongest-legged runner we have at the line of scrimmage [and there is a reason that it is he who Kelly puts back there with Atkinson and not the other guys on kickoffs]. It is a unfortunate circumstance that the way the roster and "history" has played out, that Cam will get little chance [probably] to show what a weapon he is.

Agreed OMM. I think Cam could be a great player if given the opportunity.

We roll deep at RB. Even if/when Cierre and Theo are gone think about who we have, GAIII, Amir, Cam and more. That's just awesome.

He is still very young and has lots of games in his future. I see him being Robby Toma-esque in that we will be able to depend on him to make plays as a junior/senior. Maybe no home runs ever but third downs when needed.

Early in his career to worry about his touches and where he stands in our offense is splitting hairs, especially with two senior rbs (yes wood has another year but not guaranteed).

With as hard nosed of a runner he is, I feel like he needs a cool nickname, suggestions?
