If he can get 125+ tackles, 5+ INTS and combine for 5 or so forced fumble or fumble recoveries, he might have a tiny chance.

Considering that 125 tackles would be his career's second worst total, and the fact that he is more than halfway to your INT and FF numbers, I would say that he could easily hit those targets.

I'm thinking:

138 Tackles
3 INT (lets be real, he never had one until this season)
8 FF or Fumble recoveries
2 TD's
8 Sacks
10-12 Notre Dame wins

If he hits these targets, I like his chances of getting a seat in NYC.

This team could still easily lose to Stanford, Oklahoma, and Southern Cal. They are not outside the margin of error for teams like BYU or Miami. This team could finish 8-4 still. I'm praying for >10-2.

He needs a signature highlight. A sack that causes a fumble from Landry Jones that wins the game with no time remaining? YES PLEASE.

I think the "signature highlight" is right on. That's why I said he has to have two TD's to be in the hunt.

I think Kelly means every word he says about Manti, BUT I think Kelly is smart enough to know what he has here. I think a lot of Kelly's quotes are trying to lay down a framework to get Manti some hardware for Manti, the university, and Kelly. If Manti keeps playing the way he has been, get ready for Kelly and ND to start pushing the image of Te'o as a legitimate heisman contender.

Do you remember Ndamukong Suh's signature game that got him a seat in New York? A bunch of vicious sacks against Colt McCoy and Texas. A couple of picks and shutting down Denard Robinson at night at Notre Dame Stadium is very comparable to that. Stats are going to be overrated in the Heisman race. It's about the hype machine and it's starting to heat up for Manti Te'o. If ESPN decides to tie Manti Te'o's season with a Return To Glory for Notre Dame, he will have a chance to win even if he doesn't have 2 touchdowns and 8 sacks or whatever.

I would love love LOVE for him to be invited, but lwt's be real here, a TON of good/lucky things would have to happen. We'd have to keep winning big time (no easy chore); he'd have to have that signature play; he'd have to stay injury-free (he's always been dinged up once a year, affecting his play), and he'd have to put up some more monster numbers.

All of this has been said already on this thread. Just saying, it'd be near-miraculous for so many things to come together for him. Good news though, is that he's had a fantastic start, the TEAM has had a fantastic start, the DEFENSE has had a dream start, and he has an incredible back story (you know the media eats that stuff up). So he's on his way. New York invite or not, let's hope we keep this ball rolling!

Suh's game were later in the season. It helped a ton. Hype tends to be exponential these days. Manti and Notre Dame need to head into November with one loss and do big things.

Dari is all over WVU's nuts too. He loves them and I think I remember him saying they are his NC pick. So that's why he has Geno so high. So with that said, Colin Klein is the only unbiased, non-dumb Braxton Miller pick ahead of Manti. That's pretty d@mn good.
