We may start playing Florida St a whole lot more, i like this move simply for the fact we got to an over all better conference and we will play pretty good teams. With that being said i think it will do wonders for recruiting on the east coast.

This is a long term plan that i think is really smart

We will play them every 3 years.

I've noticed this brought up a bit here and on other boards. Rotate Mich and MSU every 2 years. Why would ND want this and why would either of those schools agree to this?

I very much doubt ND will cut all ties to MSU/UM/Purdue, but 1 or 2 of those teams will be dropped.

Love it. I'd love to do Miami / FSU rotating, BC / Duke rotating, VT / Virginia Rotating, NC / NC St rotating, Wake / Maryland rotating, Clemson / GT rotating.

Then
1 Armed Services
2 Big Ten
2 P12
1 Big12
1 SEC

I hate to drop Purwho, but I'd leave UM and MSt. Maybe Keep UM and rotate other Big10 into the second spot. I do the same with the Pac12. Keep USC, rotate others into the second spot.

Don't drop Purdue or Sparty. Historically they are much more rivals of ND than UM has ever been. UM, historically, takes breaks from playing us whenever it benefits them or they lose to us too often.

One thing I DON'T like ( I like most of this) is that we are forced to play five ACC teams each year...

that means Notre Dame will have a legit say in who wins the Conference title each year but will never raise a banner in South Bend... kind of half way crooks there...

I do like how that means the state of Michigan can go screw itself now... to hell with playing either of them... ever. Me like.

But if we have to bascially play an in conference schedule part of me feels ND should just join and play for everything.

I do feel this will solve a lot ofthe front loading issues with our scedule... I can't see playing EVERY ACC game in the first six games.... the days of starting every single first half with 2 loses min. should see their end... this will have a positive impact on multiple fronts.

What's the big hurry to get rid of michigan? If there's any team I want to have the chance to beat every year it's them (and usc).

The all-time win percentage battle is more fun if the two teams get to play. It's one of the most recognized and historical rivalries in all of college football (michigan more or less taught Notre Dame to play football). Regardless of contract issues, I don't see why we dump this so quickly. What am I missing?

EDIT: And I understand the whole recruiting outside of the midwest idea, but why wouldn't we drop purdue and state before we drop michigan?

Traditionally Purdue is a bigger rival than Michigan.

ND Purdue Series
ND leads 56-26-2
First contested in 1896 and played every year since 1946.
Also an in-state rival.
Rivalry trophy game.

ND UM Series
UM leads 23-15-1
First contested in 1887, hiatuses from 1944 season through 1977 season, 1983–84, 1995–96, and 2000–01.
Since series was revived in 1978, series is tied 13-13-1 since 1978.

Purdue has always been a traditionally bigger rival than UM.

Also Michigan State is traditionally a bigger rival.
ND leads series 46-32-1. The 1 tie being what many call the greatest college football game ever in 1966.
They began playing in 1897.

From what I have read it will be 5 different teams through the 3 year period with it being a home and home. IE Away at Miami 3 years later home vs Miami.

How in the world will non-conference games against Notre Dame impact the ACC standings in any way?

They rotate. I agree 5 teams seems a bit much but that is like tripping up a bit on first base during your grand slam trot.

Until I looked and saw that the ACC ESPN contract ran though the 2020's I was really hoping that NBC would make a run at ACC sports.

Issue was among the first discussed on ATH today. Bob Ryan was totally clueless. He intimated that NBC is losing money on Notre Dame football and that the Irish aren't nationally relevant, and only Notre Dame fans fail to see this.

Er... go check the recruiting classes since Kelly arrived, Bob! Boston College (his alma mater) is the one that is totally irrelevant in every sport except hockey, and ND is right there with you in that.

Don't know if it has been mentioned, but ESPN's front page has a headline "Fighting to be Relevant". Funny that a team fighting to be relevant is front page material.

would like it if we could play same 5 ACC teams but in back to back years so as to have more rivalry type games...follow what im saying? it would push out (in yrs) when some fiuture acc opponents were guaranteed to play us...but the flipside is we guarantee them a home game once we are in their "rotation".

ESPN's front page column regarding this rips Notre Dame for succumbing to the pressure to join a conference, saying that Notre Dame just doesn't have the power or relevance to stay independent anymore.

Sports Illustrated's headline is "The Power of Notre Dame" and focuses on how undeniable Notre Dame's influence is that it can join a conference and not have to play by all the rules.

Keep hanging on to that independence until you have to join some conference-Jack did good again. Acc would be a decent fit just dont do it unless you absolutely have to.

I usually remain out of the whole espn situation.

But

That place can go die in a fire. They're like the fox news of sports. Except, monumentally more full of themselves.

People have been talking about the bowl tie-ins. With the new 4-team playoff, I thought the old bowl tie-ins were going by the wayside (or at least some of them)? Didn't Jack negotiate some deal a little while back with the Orange Bowl? I realize, currently, the Orange Bowl has ties to the ACC, but anybody know what this means in the future? Also, say the Cotton Bowl (as an example) drops the SEC or Big XII, ND could have an opening there, right? If the bowl game/conference marriages due break up (and I'm sure some will with the new postseason format), then we don't need to be all that concerned with the ACC's tie-ins, correct?

Or am I missing something?

Something tells me our old A.D Kevin White(now at Duke) may have helped smooth the path for us to the ACC.

I know he had an interesting time here with the crazy Weis contract, and Geroge O'Leary fiasco. However, something in my gut tells me he had something to do with this.

Thanks, Kev
Sincerely, Notre Dame Fans
