How do they get a "legit" confirmation about someone a coach can't speak about legitimately?

It's preposterous almost like they're agervated as if they make the hold point.

I never said it was a coach....

Your guess is as good as mine? but that seems to be the way it goes. Who or how else would the staff @ B&G get confirmation? Someone has to tell them yes, so and so is now apart of said recruiting class.

If coaches can't comment then how about a PR person from the University or football program itself..... If University's didn't confirm committs there would be a whole lot of kids going on the social media saying they're committed to programs without actually being committed....

There has to be some type of press release stating that the University accepted a players commitment and passed requirements....

I don't believe universities can officially comment on recruits until signing day, in any form.
That doesn't mean they don't leak (i.e. unofficially/anonymously talk about things not for attribution) to reporters they trust. Obviously they must do that all the time re: recruiting.
Maybe 24/7 hasn't gotten word from the coaching staff yet and is playing it safe.

Agreed, and sounds good to me.... either way they get some type of "official but unofficial" info.

I am totally pumped about this commitment. I also hope he sticks because he has power, speed and has some elusiveness to him. Awesome pick up from a guy I have never even heard of until this weekend.

over on 24/7 theres a lot of talk about this kid having all the talent to be a high 4* but doesnt have the drive and has been putting on bad weight. Also theres talk of us being his only committable offer that he had. kinda feeling a weird situation coming from this

It's really puzzling that 247 won't confirm the commitment. Wiltfong and Sapp are just saying that there are things that need to be worked out yet. What things could those be just to accept a verbal commitment? It's not like it's binding on anybody. I don't get it.

I don't think so. My understanding is that nothing is official until the LOI is signed. The verbal commitment is just an understanding between the player and the coach; clearing academics is kind of a separate process.

James is celebrating and accepting congratulations. If there are things that need to be worked out, apparently they are on our end, so James is celebrating prematurely. Bizarre situation.

Coaches & schools cannot comment on a recruit until National Signing Day.

Recruiting sites get tidbits from someone involved in the program/works in the Gug, which is probably what they're waiting for.

It may just be me, but looking at his pic, he has a strong resemblance to Boobie Miles.

IF YOU WANNA WIN, PUT BOOBIE IN!

Sorry, I just finished watching the movie

There is a press release on NSD, AFTER the signed LOI's are received. Otherwise it would be an NCAA recruiting violation.

I am impressed with the entire package except that cartoon character haircut. Seriously though he sees holes and accelerates through the hole at the right time. He knows when to juke and when to drop the pads. I liked that pancake he served up...true he had his feet planted but he was definitely willing to take on the blitzer...I would really like to see him taking on a DL or LB but he has the attitude of a pass blocker and teaching him to block less flat footed is a very small issue. It is nice to get a sleeper like this.

I tried to "look it up", about the verbals, and what the process is. The one interesting thing I found is that a verbal committment is not a committment between the school, or the athletic department and the student. It is a committment between the coach and the kid. So I think every school has a mechanism, without personally commenting on the student themselves, to verify if all the pieces are in place for the student's NLOI to be accepted. This is the one real problem for schools. If the student doesn't qualify, and they say nothing, they could be precieved as reversing an offer that the student accepted. That is the kiss of death for a major recruiting effort.

I have to believe that saying that a student has met the requirements to attend, passed background checks, etc., is not a violation of privacy, limits a universities liability, and can be routinely handled by any given member of the athletic department.

Tee's situation changed everything. As did AL's.

It did? How?
It seems like maybe we're taking fewer academically-marginal, pure "football-first" kids this cycle, but that's hard to really know at this point. On the other hand, we've sure taken a bunch of verbals. Can you elaborate?

He's a consensus 4:s: recruit out of Katy, TX. I wouldn't say he's a sleeper. He's just not someone who was on Irish Envy's radar yet.

And his hair is awesome. Butler is growing one out right now too.

I'm sitting back and waiting for this to fully unfold before I get too excited about him being Irish though. This whole scenario is peculiar.

That's honestly the best way to look at it. This is such an unusual turn of events.

Besides, after 2012's class, we shouldn't count any of this boys as committed. I know we love our guys but we should all keep our excitement down.

Word.. The win total will decide wether or not we anxiously await the de-commits or excitedly predict which 5 & 4:s: players will wrap up this already epic class.

Katy is a powerhouse down here.....We played them every year back when I was in High School.

Well coached and very disiplined.

It could be as simple as he was going to stick with the Hogs after Petrino left on his bike, but then had a conversation or two with the new coach and decided he wasn't going to stay. All the while, BK's crew was still in contact with him while most of the others weren't.

As far as, "Is this legit?" The Magic 8 Ball says............"Ask Me Again".

Well, 247 certainly had no problem downgrading him. Seriously, what a bunch of ####.

Is there any word about whether his verbal was accepted. I don't care what clowns (they are all clowns) 247, espn, Rivals or Scout say what. If Kelly wants him the rest is okay. Some 3*'s are going to be rocking the next couple of years. Kelly already has faith shaken in the star system - some may say that is the reason James is downgraded, to keep the Mob from being rated better. I don't even care about that. I just want the right guys in.

Is Jamel James in?
