As a consistent poster on IE I hope nobody thinks I am lying about what he said to me... think what you want though
I didn't. I purposely worded my to note there was a credibility issue with the statement. Wasn't the guy on the end of the phone the same guy that previously stated he had a medical clearance issue?
Every year there are a number of incoming freshman across the country that get held out due to Clearinghouse Issue. In a prior post regarding Tee, I noted some of them from ND that I recalled. All of them were nice people, none of them were 5 Stars, but I don't recall anyone else coming up issue du jour. When he left, he could have simply noted there was a Clearinghouse Issue (very common when more then one HS is involved and there are multiple transcripts). He could have even been specific and said something like "There's a question of one of the math courses I took at my second HS possibly being too similar to a course I took at my first HS and I'm a few credits short. I'll fix that in summer school and be on campus for preseason practice." Could have made a similar comment about a ACT test be 1, 2, or a few points short and he was retesting in the Spring.
Neither ND nor the coaches could comment on academic issues and one Tee brought up the medical issue the coaches are restricted from discussing details without release from the individual. Going back to the time when he left, Kelly mentioned a medical issue being reported but noted he could not comment on that. Kelly could have noted if it was a career ending injury ala Dan Wenger and other student athletes with had career ending issues.
Tee's saga has more twists than Joey Hiben's saga (you never have too many TE's, right Wooly?)
For those that think ND is harsh or uncaring read this article about Hiben who played as a freshman TE in in '05. Quit football but stay at ND to concentrate on Architecture (and publicly argued that Weis was inflexible when Weis reported attempts were made to work things out like Overseas Assignment), then transferred to Minnesota, then went out for football AND track (so much for too much workload), then broke his wrist, then TRANSFERRED BACK TO ND, was approached by Kelly to play but was out of eligibility, fought in Bengal Bouts, and graduated this Spring. Hiben's was an incredible journey.
ND didn't slam the door shut. But keep in mind that Hiben did what was he required to do by ND Admissions to get back into ND and by the faculty to graduate from ND.
