I have heard that Tony has said that before. At first I thought he was being humble. Now I believe him. What does Everett have: A superior offensive line; More backfield since the day; the potential he needs at wr; Big strong bad@ss tight ends. Oh yeah, and more God given talent than Tony Rice, per Tony!

I understand that Everett has work to do learning the offense. I would also hope Kelly is willing to change his system to fit his skills.

That can be said for all of the QB's I know, but Golson in a spread is pretty impressive.

I would love to see Everett under center, with Woods and Atkins in the backfield.

I too am really hoping that Everett "gets it" and that he can truly manage the game. In our recent "Kelly mic'd up" video though, the tape we had showed Kelly jumping on both Everett and Andrew for blowing plays on reads. Everett didn't seem to respond at all to the talk --- I'm hoping that this is just his personality when his "art" is criticized. If so, Coach is put in a bit of a bind when talking to him about errors if he gives no feedback to Kelly --- a good teacher needs SOME body-language in the heat of the moment.

Golson's error on that play was that he did not read the safety correctly. He got away with it in practice apparently by throwing the he!l out of the ball with his powerful arm, but Kelly doesn't like that sort of gambling throw. After no body language response, Coach had to go over to Everett and reinforce why, even though he got away with it, it was a mistake. Kelly's approach, to me as an old teacher, was classic trying to get a reluctant "student" to acknowledge seeing the point. Kelly tried every trick I'd have tried with a kid who was important to me. He looked very intently while he reinforced this; he slapped Everett on the shoulder pads as a "statement" of "I'm not mad at you"; and he turned to the other QBs and said "do you see what the point is there ... " etc about the read --- as another gimmick to impress upon Everett that what just happened was important.

That inclusion in the video [and Kelly CERTAINLY has editorial oversight on what's in there] told me two things: 1). He REALLY wants Golson to succeed; and 2). Golson is NOT, in his mind, ready.

Maybe he will be ready by Navy. Maybe he won't but Coach will see him as the best Risk-vs-Rewards gamble. Maybe he won't at all. Let's hope that Coach has the magic touch on reading Everett, and that Everett is responsive to the criticism of not doing it his old successful-in-his-eyes way.

From the day he signed, I thought he was going to be that "star" QB to take us to the next level. In all fairness, I like Hendrix as well...but Golson has a special skill set and throws the ball better than Hendrix. The only guy that could unseat him, would be Gunner Kiel, IMO.

It's only a matter of time, gentlemen....

If I'm Kelly, I have a short leash on Rees/Hendrix (assuming they get the nod) and let Golson loose if they don't perform. Especially if our season doesn't get off to a good start. The only way he'll get better, is if he plays.

I'm shooting for 2013 anyway.

Remember, I am your friend, and I don't mean anything buyit.

I have a question: If one too many drinks caused this, and you proof read when you are in said condition, how do you expect to catch anything?

I am just saying.

(I go back and change most of my [many] stupid posts, unless they are so funny I need to leave em stand. Like last night, I helped get this guy in North Cackalacky to laugh his @ss off with our favorite Wooly.)

As I've maintained since the spring game, I'd take Golson - warts and all - at this point, because his upside is so much higher than Rees and Hendrix and Gunner isn't ready yet. If the "safest" guy (Rees) is turnover prone, what is the harm in letting Golson learn on the job some? Even if he isn't a finished product, his skills will allow him to balance out his mistakes far more than Rees's skills allow him to balance out his mistakes.

I'm sure that in this case Coach's thoughts are closer to ours than usual. He probably lies awake nights thinking: Lord, I'm glad that we still have August practice sessions.

I think people tend to forget, including me, that Rees was a true sophomore last year. His turnover level wasn't out of the norm for his age. It would not be a shocker if he dropped his turnover amount significantly this year.

I don't disagree, but I still think Golson's upside is dramatically higher than Rees's. If we're going to have to take the lumps from Golson learning on the job, we might as well do it this year. Also, Rees decreasing his turnovers is not an automatic, nor is Golson struggling.

There is a podcast on II ( I don't have access) that apparently is saying Golson is turning the 7 on 7 drills into "The Golson Show", particularly hitting Chris Brown on the deep routes.

This makes me happy. All in rhythm now:

"Go Golson!" "Go Golson!" "Go Golson!" "Go Golson!"
