............................................................we did

Well sheeeeeitttt, we need to update his offer list then. He might be only 5'7" or 5'8" but he certainly plays bigger than that

That's what I am talking about. What do you think about that model of a small incredibly fast back in the "tweaked" Kelly offense, now that Martin is the OC?

That sh*t would be Kray....

Sherman Oaks ND running back Khalfani Muhammad was named California's Athlete of the Year. Notre Dame has him near the top of the list of its potential running back recruits in the 2013 class.

Muhammad won state titles on the track in the 100 and 200 as well as anchoring the championship 4x100 team this spring. He joins some pretty impressive company on the Athlete of the Year List. The last three winners were Tyler Gaffney (now at Stanford), Robert Woods and Marqise Lee (both at USC).

I personally get the vibe we aren't pushing hard enough here. Seems like our staff is winging for "bigger fishes" that have little interest in ND at this point. Can't say I really understand it, but this is the world we live in when you aren't willing to push a kid out later in the cycle. I'd really like to have Khalfani as part of the mob if we're dead set on taking a RB.

Couldn't agree more. Don't want to see this guy get away. At this point I'm hoping for guys like Mizzell and Folston to just commit elsewhere. I doubt they are going to pick us anyway, and I don't want their stringing us along to jeopardize our chances with Khalfani. I know RB is not a position of need this year but you don't want to risk being short there either. I'd like to get one in this class.

Seems like the RB position has gone quiet lately. News on the two backs we want most (Mizzel and Folston) is slow right now...

Well the 2 backs that I wanted the most came off the board then I watched this kids tape and felt good again. Now I'm wondering the same thing you guys are. If we want a back this year this is our best chance so gotta show him some love IMO.

We are in Mizzels top 5 but not top 3 and he will commit at Gridiron Kings (late July). Likely UVA

Folston has troubling taking visits, could visit this summer, will likely use the season for OVs

Yeah. At this point, he seems the most likely RB we land. And, really, you can never have too many running backs. Especially when they can become receivers or defensive backs.
Who else is seriously in on him?

This is going to come down to whether or not we truly want to use a scholarship on a RB-only running back. All of the other guys we have offered either have:

1. A gamebreaking super elite trait.
2. Positional flexibility in a crunch.

If we're willing to use a scholarship on just a really solid player who could be quite effective in the spread, he'll be Irish. If we're willing to wait and try to hit a home run with someone else, I don't think he waits around.

If Wood bolts for the NFL and Roberson takes a medical, we'll have a serious lack of depth at RB/ Z WR-- 5/8 scholarship players. However, those 5 guys are extremely talented, so even if we take K. Muhammad for depth reasons, he may not see the field for 3 years anyway.

Tough call. I'd be tempted to roll the dice and pass on RB this year (assuming we can't land an elite talent), but injuries are an ever-present concern... especially at RB.

So is Khalfani out with the Jemel James commitment? I think he must be, as we are deep at RB and have limited space left in the class. The only counterargument I could see is that he is such a different player, as a small, speedy type. If Russell moves to CB, I guess I could see us taking Khalfani.

According to one site, we still want him. They are two completely different types of RBs, and Khalfani can also play slot.

It has been reported in various places that we're telling recruits we want to take two RBs. I guess if you're thinking one of them could be converted to a DB or slot receiver, that makes sense. Especially if Roberson is indeed done.

Good point, consider this... Speaking of Roberson theres a good chance he is not coming back. We lose Riddick after this year and possibly Wood(NFL).... throw in Toma as a (hybrid) and we are potentially losing 4 RB/Hybrid... I could see the staff taking 1 true thumper of a back plus one Hybrid.... Just to keep the Stable full... If they and or when they get 2 backs this year i believe finding a big time WR is still a high priority...

It should be. We need one. And a big-time corner. But a guy who could perhaps fit into any of those three position groups in some form (Muhammed?) would be an asset.

Agreed i really like this kid..... Just his size alone makes sense in a couple years our average height on the OL will be 6'-5"/6'-6".... Try to find and tackle a speedy shifty back that stands 5'-8"... He would disappear then explode out and the defense will be seeing nothing but a back-plate and heels flapping in the wind....
