Phew, finally that's out of the way. Is his next event the Opening?

Edit: My bad. I made the assumption he was invited (He wasn't). When's his next camp?

The sad part is that there is an entire year before he steps on campus for summer practice. We still have all of his senior year highlights to look forward to. He did the damage in his previous highlights to kids older than him, imagine him being the oldest and most experienced on the field. These highlights coming out this fall are going to be unreal.

Nothing new here from Wiltfong's Top Ten from yesterday

2. Jaylon Smith: The man of the hour was five-star linebacker Jaylon Smith, who made his verbal commitment to Notre Dame public following the camp. The Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers standout, and nation’s No. 7 ranked player overall in the class of 2013, was fundamentally sound during drills, and as always, makes it nearly impossible for whoever he is checking to run a clean route. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Smith and his 4.4 speed have had better showings this spring, however nothing on Saturday showed he was anything less than an elite prospect.

i think we're going to end up with the best Linebacker unit in the country at the end of this recruiting cycle as a result of jaylon coming on board...any of the expert number crunchers know how many we're taking this year??

I'm not one, but I can tell you what has been said before. I'm pretty sure most are saying between 4-6 with the thought that 1 or 2 can bulk up and play DE. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah I am thinking 5 for sure. This class seems deep with talent at that position and sometimes you just gotta strike when the iron is hot!

Which guys are we looking at for OLB and which for ILB? Anybody have or know of a breakdown? We seem to be sitting well with Anzalone, Randolph, Mattingly, Ogundenko, and Cox plus a few more. Not sure which LB spot they're all being recruited for.

IIRC, Anzalone and Cox would be ILBs for us, and the others are OLBs.

Sign all of the linebackers! It's crazy to think about, but we have a pretty good shot at landing ALL of them. Shiit cray!

THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!

And Buster, it has the ring and cadence of: "Release the karacken!"

Sapp does a great job always getting the other recruits reactions. This one in particular from Heuerman was exceptional:

"We're a big-time program so getting big-time recruits like Jaylon is what we do. It'll impact us in a positive manner greatly because it shows how the majority of us committed to Notre Dame had offers to every top program in the country and we chose Notre Dame over all the rest because of how special and different it is compared to all other opponents that tried to recruit us.

"To sum it up, Notre Dame separates itself and we all realize it."

wow Mike...I hope every commit thus far shares the same viewpoint. If that's the case then I could potentially breathe easy and not worry about defections.

+1,000,000 on Heuerman's quote.

Outstanding example of a kid who has his head on straight at such a young age. If that attitude doesn't scream "team first" I don't know what would. That is the attitude that needs to be consistently recruited in order to be succcessful at the top of the national level, and I think more and more BK and Co are doing it. This also reminds me so much of what guys on the Lou Holtz teams were like. They just got it.

Welcome Jaylon!!!

Tee off on me here but I think I am more excited about a 5* recruit calling out the "institution" of CFB recruiting for lacking character. He speaks from the experience of his brother as well as one of the most cherished recruits of this cycle.

Also listens to the stats - ND graduates its kids with real degrees. And if you don't know what you want to major? Well there is always that #1 business school to fall back on. Oh, wait. Why fall back on it when you can leverage it to be a more successful sports entreprenuer. Great you made it to the NFL, now you have a high probability of being bankrupt within 5 years of retiring, or you can leverage your income and influence to build a business empire like Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson.

In short, this kid rocks.

Nice!! Just found this out this morning. I was playing in a golf tourney this weekend and didn't get to hit the web at all.

This guy is going to be a monster. He'll add about 10-15lbs and be unstoppable. Could dominate as much as Patrick Willis

LB's with this kind of speed are rare. Can't wait to see him on the field.

Love this pick up, and he's recruiting on Harvgreeves right now as well, and elite CB is just another piece of the puzzle we need and as good as Smith is, you gotta know he's going to be looked at by other recruits as a guy you want to be on the same side of the ball with. This could possibly help real in some of those other elite recruits on defense that are on the fence on where they want to play. Why wouldn't you want to join the Irish and be shoulder to shoulder with Smith. Nice job on recruiting this guy coaches, this was a dynamic pick-up...

Go Irish!

Actually, it's just recently been posted that Manti Teo is our greatest coup in the last two decades on defense.

Lynch should be an honorable mention: but he gone.

Jaylon is special too. Manti Teo-ish special in terms of elite ready to play ability.

This from 247.

Hey Johnny, my main manortwo!

What I said was (was speaking to was) combination of character and athletic ability. Thinking about it and watching Jaylon's comittment again, I can only imagine the lunch between Smith and T'eo. I think that as far as coups, that may be right, simply because T'eo and Lynch were more likely to go somewhere else. You are right! My comment was about quality of individuals, more of a what they "have done/will do" for the program.

I cannot compair two "right" guys: Manti and Jaylon, have a spiritual and character character side that makes them unique. If I would compare them athletically, the only thing I would say is that Jaylon can play more positions, is a bit taller, a bit faster and would ride the bench behind Manti at ISLB. Physically, how do you compare a tsunami to a twister?

Looking at the three, I am thinking of the one that is different, tangebly and intangibly. Lynch is not capable of doing the broad range of athletic movements that the other two are. Period. He is taller but slower. And his beastly genius is related to rushing the passer. Only.

Lynch is not qualified to be on the character or spirituality list with either. Or anybody? He is here and now and does not make any of my lists other than pass rush where he comes in about 19th, behind Jungle Jim Martin, may move to 20 because in the long run, I think Jaylon will end up a better pass rusher also!

Perhaps ironically as I quote this, the IE banner has two separate pictures of Manti...and Te'o.

Fixed, when I get excited I play on the schizophrenic side of one or more of my personalities. I was just getting so excited. I often have wonderful conversations over lunch with myself. How about you? And, how about you?
