Yanks beat Toronto 4-0. Win #90, not bad for a rebuilding year.

Tanaka went 7 innings shutting out the Jays on 3 hits, 0 BBs, and 15 Ks.

Boston can close out the AL East with a win tonight. Brooms, Houston, Broom!

Low chance, but what happens if the teams end up with the same record?

Boston lost tonight 3-2. Their lead is now 2 games with 2 to play.

Boston has to lose both and NY to win both for NY to tie Boston for 1st Place. IF this happens they play a one game playoff the day after the season ends at the home field of the season series winner which I believe is NY by an 11-8 record.

Boston Wins AL East

Boston Wins AL East

Both teams won today clinching the title for Boston.

Yanks won 2-1. CC had a strong outing 0 runs in 5.2 scattering 4 hits while striking out 6.

Judge hit #52, 484 footer. He tied Mickey Mantle for 8th most in a season by a Yankee. Only 4 Yankees have hit more in a season.

It was also Judge's 33rd at home passing Babe Ruth, 1921, for most HRs at home by a Yankee.

I was at the game last night. Crowd was wild. Girardi said it felt like a college football game. One of the coolest experiences of my life.

Listening to some Bball commentator yesterday while working. He mentions Girardi tends to get antsy and pulls pitchers earlier than most coaches if things aren't going well. He doesn't give his pitcher time to settle in if he has a rough start. I missed the first inning, but tuned in during the top of the 2nd and saw a new pitcher for the Yankees. The guy was spot on.

The silver lining is that Severino will be available earlier than originally projected given the limited number of pitches he threw.

Severino was getting shellacked though. Had no control over his off-speed stuff and the Twins were taking advantage. This time, at least, it looks like he made the right decision.

Gary Denbo is set to join Derek Jeter in Miami
Mike Axisa

Since 2014, Denbo has been the Yankees vice president of player development, and giving him the job was a turning point for the organization. New York's farm system hadn't been very productive prior to 2014, but since Denbo took over, the Yankees have had Luis Severino, Gary Sanchez, and Aaron Judge come out of their farm system and become All-Stars. Greg Bird, Jordan Montgomery, and Chad Green are other player development success stories.

The decisive Game 5 is set for Wednesday in Cleveland
Game 5 -- to determine which of these teams advances to the ALCS to take on the Astros -- is scheduled for Wednesday night at Progressive Field. CC Sabathia will go for the visiting Yankees opposite Corey Kluber for the Tribe. Sabathia pitched solidly in Game 2, while Kluber was uncharacteristically awful in that same contest. First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on FS1.

I anticipate Kluber rebounding like Severino did from his previous poor performance. He's too good to pitch badly two games in a row. The key to the game with be Sabathia.

Hey guys as many of you know I was fortunate to play ball in the American league for a few years as a pitcher so maybe what I'm about to say will strike a cord-the at bat Gardner had last night was one of the most impressive at bats (game on the line) I have ever seen. Just grit and concentration extraordinaire then his post game was humble and classy-hats off young man and wow I'm a fan of this guy from now on. He's been doing this all year and may be their MVP even though Judge may win the league honor. One thing for sure I wouldn't want to face that guy with the game on the line=STUD. I may go out and buy a Yankee hat because of Brett Gardner.

It was very impressive and when he came up, I was thinking no one better in the Yankees lineup to be in this position. He's never had the talent to be a super star, but he's in that category of who you pick next after you've picked the superstar. He's got great field awareness. How many times have you seen him stretch a single into a double because the outfielder was lazy getting the ball back in? Those are the things he does as good as anyone.

Judge went 1 for 20 with 16 strikeouts in the ALDS
Mike Axisa Oct 12, 2017

Other than that double and the home run robbery, Judge was a complete zero in the ALDS. He went 1 for 20 with 16 strikeouts -- 16 strikeouts! -- in the five games. The 16 strikeouts are a new postseason series record, and that includes seven-game series. Also, Judge is now the only player in history with three career four-strikeout postseason games. He's played only six postseason games.
Clearly, the Indians did their homework and figured out a way to neutralize Judge's immense power. And clearly, that plan involved breaking balls. Lots and lots of breaking balls. Here is the pitch selection Judge saw this year:

JPitch 2017 Regular Season 2017 ALDS
Fastballs 55.8% 48.5%
Breaking Balls 32.2% 50.0%
Offspeed 12.0% 1.5%

Judge's regular season numbers:
Fastballs: .315 AVG and .714 SLG (MLB averages: .276 AVG and .461 SLG)
Breaking Balls: .215 AVG and .430 SLG (MLB averages: .216 AVG and .361 SLG)
Offspeed: .323 AVG and .742 SLG (MLB averages: .241 AVG and .405 SLG)

He's a Titan on Fastballs and Offspeed pitches. Breaking balls make him a mere mortal.

There's a graphic with the article that shows the pitch locations. Check it out.

https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/...b25f6b50c/aaron-judge-alds-breaking-balls.png

If I counted correctly in those 20 at bats they threw him 65 breaking balls.

28 were in or touched the strike zone.

Fourteen were called strikes.

He swung at 9 outside the strike zone, fouling off one.

He hit 6, 5 of those were fouls or foul tips.

One pitch was put in play.

IF he can up his BA on breaking balls by 20 points, he's a .300+ hitter.

CC giving us a good five or six innings, and us scoring a few more runs
Joe Girardi on Sunday.

Monday he got six great innings from CC scattering 4 hits and allowing no runs. As for runs he's got 8 with 3 coming from a Todd Frazier HR and 3 on a Judge HR.

Warren took over for CC in the 7th as CC had already thrown 99 of his 100 allotted pitches.

This article talks about how effective CC is through pitches 1-75 and what happens later.
