Ok I have one,… we live in a massively Hispanic dominated city, like 85 plus percent Mexican. Our church is the same way. I’m introverted and can come and go to church without saying a word but opposites attract and my wife wants to make friends with everyone. Ok, so the church announces they’ll have a big Christmas celey next Sunday and my wife goes to the pastor’s wife and asks if she can help. She tells my wife yes, a huge pot of pozole,… only my wife who looks Mexican isn’t, she’s Filipino and only knows Mexican food at all bc of me. So she agrees to this task but guess what, now I’m on the hook for this massive pozole order which I can make but dont want to. There’s also this weird dynamic of now the gringo is making the pozole which I know from experience some will not like just by default. Thanks bae, I was really hoping for a super awkward Christmas… you delivered.

You're in El Paso now right? I was there for business a little over a month ago and will be back soon. Great people and food over there.

My wife is a good cook but doesn't really like to cook. Her mom wasn't very domestic and didn't teach her much about running a kitchen, so my wife is generally clueless about most stuff kitchen related. I had a nice 12" cast iron skillet my mom gave me as a gift 20 years ago. About a year ago I wanted to use it but couldn't find it. When I asked my wife about it, she confessed that she'd left it to soak full of water for a couple of days and it had rusted, so she threw it away. I thought she was joking, like when you say something intentionally ridiculous to be funny. She wasn't joking. "Why would you throw my good cast iron skillet away???" "Well, it was rusted and ruined." "NOOOOOOOOOO! It wasn't ruined!" She had no idea. So I got tired of not having a cast iron skillet and bought a set of 5 of them last month, ranging from 6" to 15" in size. We had a discussion about cleaning and maintaining them. Life is good again.

That sucks, I love finding a good piece of cast iron that someone let rust and then just gets rid of it. Takes a little work but those things are totally salvageable and then can make some quick money on them 😂

That would be very disheartening. We've developed a strict schedule where we quickly clean, using soap/water as needed, then dry with towel, put back on range and pour a little avocado oil and wipe around the entire interior. This was due to both of us being oblivious to proper cast iron care. I'd like to expand our set one day but our kitchen isn't big enough to handle anymore cookware. Envious of your new set!

How do you just "throw it away"? They're so dense and heavy, it's not something I'd think to just throw in the trash.

I think she took it to work and put it in the park's recycle bin. By the time I learned what she'd done, it had been hauled off. :-(

My youngest just started in a preschool/daycare after the holidays, which means I have a kid-less house during the day. I told my wife how great this was……. I even said we can start having nooners….. she has no clue what I’m getting at. Thoughts and prayers, please.

My wife an I both work from home, have scheduled "11 o'clock meetings" on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Generally productive, usually quick. Really good for team morale. Questionable ethics on interactions with coworkers in the office space, though.

My wife and I tried this...then the meetings started getting cancelled...something about a scheduling conflict...
