Found a way to turn this one into a comfortable dub. Wouldn’t have been able to do that in past years. Leave no doubt? Maybe not quite, but that second half sure quelled a lot of it that crept in during the first 30:00.

+ Aneyas with 90 yards and 4.5YPC. Very solid outing after a paltry 1H output.

+ Nolan James is shifty if he isn’t fast. He did a nice job in space on the edge. He’s got to navigate better inside going forward.

+ Our entire backfield can catch the ball. That might turn out to be huge as the season progresses.

+ Absher was the answer at RG. I’d expect he’ll supplant Prescod.

+ Porath with two big FGs to get points early. Nice to have that again.

+ Defense was very vanilla for the first 2.5 quarters, but finally started generating some pressure. Tackling was PHENOMENAL and really wasn’t discussed much in the game thread. We didn’t miss many and if we got a piece of a Badger player and he broke out, we had a guy there to finish the play.

+ As angst-filled as the 1H was, we thoroughly dominated the 2H. Nice to see this team grow up, make adjustments, and do what they needed to do.

+ Gotta hope Tae and Onye are precautionary hold outs for 2H. Should be able to rest them next week, also. Tae looked in good spirits talking with KVA.

Hell yeah. Go Irish. Beat Rice! ☘️

1. A lot of improvement needs to be seen if ND is a title contender
2. B. Johnson and Onye can't be out for the season after the first game
3. Many of us had too negative of an impression of Wisconsin. They are a tough, run-limiting team.
4. Hope the boys rest up, heal up and get ready for the next.

5. I'd really like to see Kedren and the freshmen get some carries to find out what they can do.

I absolutely was bitching about Aneyas Williams into the third quarter. I’ll happily eat my crow.

The main adjustments seem to be Absher for Prescod and moving to the pistol. I really like the pitch out of the pistol.

Bryce Young was immense tonight. Idk how much the stats truly reflect it.

- RBs were not impressive. But we can win with them.
- Denbrock - what do you need to open it up? You have year 2 CJ Carr. What are you doing?
- Boub, Leonard, Bowen, and Adon out there down to the final seconds? Nah stop that ish.
- Was very impressed with Wisconsin.

DBs looked good, I think the D line was good but held back,… o line needs work. Idk wtf to think about the WRs, are they legit and Carr is the issue??

Not even going to complain. They adjusted well and beat a P4 team by 4 touchdowns in week one after skipping the first half entirely.

CJ is just so special. His pre-snap signal calling is the best I’ve ever seen from a ND qb. He had an AWESOME game despite the stat sheet not reflecting it

Chucking it around the yard up three tudds against a guy that used to coach you is a great indication that they are going to do some truly diabolical things to the lesser teams on this schedule

Basically what I expected in all honesty. Pray that Brauntae and Onye are less than season ending. Think we are going to see a lot of 2 high safeties from opposing teams. Need to find some shot plays. OL drastically improved, not surprising when you have 3 or 4 guys playing their first game at new positions. I have a feeling im going to not enjoy James being RB2, great out of the backfield though

Wound up being a hell of an enjoyable watch. Sloppy game with lots to coach up where you still win by roughly 4 touchdowns is every coach's dream.

1. I like that we kept starters in all the way to the finish. Clearly they were sending a message about "finishing" given how shit the first half was.

2. Hard to complain about the defense considering some of the situations they were put in and they only surrendered the one individual mistake for a TD. Tackled really well. Hope Brauntae and Onye didn't pick up season ending injuries.

3. Offense under Denbrock seems to do this shit every year where they have a game or two of "figuring it out".... hopefully they show more in the pass game against Rice. Not really using the slot receiver much was a pretty wild choice.

Bonus: I thought Gilbert looked pretty smooth and might have a pretty big year opposite Faison.

I guess I can sort of forgive the 1H only because Wisconsin emptied their clip and we still had a lead going into half. Also our first drive started with a false start in the first couple plays and put us off script. It wasn’t great, but I loved the adjustments and then we rolled.

Abu Sama and Darrion Dupree are actually a good RB duo and I thought our DL and LB corps did a really nice job keeping them in check.

Carr 66% passing for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns not bad considering we’d probably grade him what? A C+ today? Maybe a B-?
