Hmmm....never thought of Moorhead (don't know how) but I really like the thought of a Moorhead/Elko combo. Sign me up if things don't go well from here on out.
You guys have me dreaming of Harbaugh. How awesome would that be? Having such a big name coach would instantly help with recruiting.
Gonna make it hard to deal when ND ultimately hires Al Golden,...

Tired of hearing about the schedule. We played a very easy schedule last year and went 4-8. First 6 games this year UGA is the only good team we play and Im not really sold on UGA being that good.
I'm just waiting to see half this board try to rationalize how Dantonio is the greatest hire since Holtz.

Who was a better hire since Holtz?
Kelly.
Actually, record say HELL NO.
With the recruiting bump Dantonio would get with his ND business cards, wouldn't he be even better?
Yes the same Dantonio that just had his MSU team struggle with Western Michigan.
Nothing sexier than that.

On the board we measure in Natty Champs and BCS level bowl appearances. Yes?
Dantonio has won the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl and gotten blown out in the CFB Playoff.
Kelly has lost the Fiesta Bowl and National Championship.
Has Dantonio been better? Probably. But I don't think the gap is as big as a "HELL NO"
And with your recruiting bump I offset you strength of schedule. Also how much of the success had to do with Narduzzi? Last year would suggest a lot.

Kelly.
First off, I don't want Dantonio, nor am I on of these guys after BK with a pitchfork. But since '10... excluding '16 when both guys sucked equally:
BK has a 3-2 head to head advantage.
BK is 10-18 against ranked teams. MD is 17-11.
BK has 5 bad losses to meh teams, MD has 2.
BK is 1-3 in major bowls or against a good major team so I'm counting LSU/Music City Bowl
MD is 3-2 plus he's 2-1 in the B1G Championship.
SOS avg over the 6 seasons: BK = 20, MD = 26.

LSU was not good. I think the only reason you are including that is because ND won. That was a crappy bowl game against a crappy LSU team. Kelly is 0 for 3 against GOOD to ELITE teams.
They had the best defense in the SEC, were a multiple TD favorite, and were ranked. WTF are you talking about?
I usually agree with a lot you say but, Ole Miss was the best defense in 2014 in the SEC and the score should have been 21-21 at half, 21-17 at least and the Irish would have either tied the game at the end to OT or had to score a TD to tie it.
I was at the game and LSU fans were rightly pissed. The replay officials really screwed LSU over on that one. But, credit ND for playing LSU way above what many thought it would be because LSU was crappy that day and the Irish took advantage of their bad play. I blame the Mad Hatter for his dumb calls in addition.
The Irish held them in check for 90% of that game - it was the 'usual' Big Plays that scored 21 points for LSU or the score would have been totally different.
LOL...NO.
Nobody in their RIGHT mind says that. Kelly was a good hire for ND, the best people thought we could get. The only reason he is not getting raked over the coal now is because people are holding onto the failed mantra of, "He is the best ND can ever hope for," which is clearly garbage. Sorry, but Holtz was a superior coach in EVERY SINGLE WAY.

Damn, you're right Ole Miss was better on advanced stats (after bowl game at least). I was looking at LSU's YPG which was tops heading into the bowl. LSU was still a top 10 defense in the country by S&P, and still tops in SEC in YPP and YPG I think heading into that contest.
Bad calls are completely irrelevant though to the discussion at hand. No one is giving us back the FSU win in talking about Kelly from that year. In retrospective a win is a win and a loss is a loss and if you're going to subtract LSU then you'd have to give Kelly the win in Tallahassee which is actually an even better one.

Also, please tell me how ND is close to being elite under Kelly when Dantonio has a better bowl record, is better against ranked teams and is against a comparable schedule, considering how awful the Big Ten was until two years ago. I am not sure about him, but every metric shows that Dantonio is simply a superior coach to BK. Frankly, it is not close and MSU does not have anywhere near the talent level ND does.
You do not have to subtract the LSU win. It was a W but it was not a great SEC team. Their defense was better than UGA this weekend, but their offense was not that great, and I do not remember their ST standing out, either.
However, I think claiming that he Music City Bowl was against a VERY GOOD team is overstating things.
Something I've thought about for the past few years.
Will Notre Dame football ever become elite?
