Is the staff doing this to try and put a couple commits back to back?

I personally just don't see a big need at WR. We've recruited some really good players at the position in recent classes, and there aren't a lot of "studs" out there to grab in this class. IMO, we should focus on 2022.

Plus, even though we're recruiting TMA at safety, he obviously has that positional flexibility.

July/August was the most fun I've had with Notre Dame recruiting in a long time. I'll gladly eat crow for the comments I made earlier in the spring. Now I wonder if the staff setup all of these commitments this way, or did they all coincidentally want to make a decision around the same time?

Anyway, I'm gonna go with Jayden Thomas or Billy Schrauth. I'm interested to see what they do with Edwards, Rucci, and Thornton. Or do we start to see new 2021 offers go out?

Spindler was a done deal for a little while. Filmed his commitment video a few weeks back, and then set a time to announce. And as far back as March, I heard really good things behind the scenes and posted as much in his thread. He did a good job playing his cards close to his vest, and people on the ND side of things did a great job of keeping it hush-hush per his wishes. This played out pretty comically with some out-of-the-loop Michigan reporters with bad sources writing ill-informed pieces or making cringey podcasts. Mitchell Evans they had the inside track on, not sure exactly when he pulled the trigger, but I think you can talk about that one being a bit scheduled.

Logan Diggs was a little out-of-the-blue, calling to commit on 7/28 before announcing publicly later; and Kollie committed to the staff Monday (8/3) before announcing on Friday. So in a sense, they were all kind of "set up" this week but Diggs and Kollie were definitely more surprising for different reasons.

So who is next? Maybe a 2022 commit?

We can agree Colzie is an automatic take though, right?

Not really sure, that may be most likely. Haven’t really been following ‘22 recruiting. I know we don’t have anyone queued right now for ‘21 that’s a “silent” or the equivalent.

Unless something dramatically changes, this board seriously needs to stop thinking about Colzie. You want a big time WR? Start hoping for Thornton.

Hear any positives about Thornton. He looks to be an Oregon lock right now. Here’s hoping!!!!

Oregon lean for sure. ND probably running second. Decision probably not coming any time soon, and Oregon has a very good WR class currently.

The idea that Colzie shouldn't be talked about anymore is a farce. Likely? No, but there is still good communication between the two. Covid certainly isn't helping here but if this plays out long enough and ND gets him back on campus and around the verbals, ND would be in a good spot.

Thornton is far from an Oregon lock. Covid hurting here also because he hasn't made it to South Bend. The fact that ND is 2nd without a visit is a big plus if visits take place before February. He's been to Eugene, so it's just something to keep in mind.

Not sure I would call it good communication. Very little confidence from the ND staff, and most people generally consider the staff to be too optimistic.

I would respectfully disagree here.

Again, likely? No. But the idea that he should be forgotten about altogether is premature

Then you'd be disagreeing with people with far more inside knowledge than me. People can talk about Colzie if they want, but there's a number of posters who seem to think he's a realistic option. Things would drastically have to change for us to get back in the picture.

The communication between both sides is quite good. They talk often. It just might not matter. He’s a relevant recruit. That’s got to be unarguable. A one time ND commit, with a mother that’s a huge ND fan, who has been to ND before, and has yet to shut down his recruitment.

I think some on the board have taken up a fascination with Colzie coming back and that’s very premature. But he’s certainly relevant enough to discuss.

I am hoping Rocco recruits like Fisher and he turns his attention to the michigan RB Donovan Edwards who probably lives nearby him. Rocco looks like he could be persuasive.

Maybe I shouldn't get into a semantics argument over 'good' communication, I guess any communication could be considered good. We're obviously still recruiting him which makes him relevant. I probably worded it poorly when I said the board should stop thinking about Colzie. That doesn't mean there should be absolutely no discussion about him, just that nobody's hopes should be up. Like, at all.

Here’s what I’m guessing

1. WR Jayden Thomas
2. WR/DB Titus Mokiao-Atimalala (wants play WR and coaches said he could play what he wants)
3. 3* DB

At the same time I hope they continue to recruit really hard the following guys

1. Nolan Rucci
2. Donovan Edwards
3. Dont’e Thornton
4. Deion Colzie
5. Wyatt Milum

I think it’ll be the top two dudes eventually who join the fold and then it’s kind of anybody’s guess as to who the staff could fill up on later on in the cycle. I hope they’re being proactive and communicative with some of these recruits.

I'll be surprised if Quinn goes after anyone at OL now except if Rucci falls into his lap. wonder if having 4 NFL dads in his room helps Quinn here? Can't hurt, right?

They’re totally good on numbers and now it’s a good class at OLine. I think if guys like Rucci and Milum and maybe even Fatheree and Tengwall pick up the phone then it doesn’t hurt to call them cause maybe there’s a shot at a visit weekend in January. All of those dudes were itching to get back to campus. I think the focus for Quinn should rightly be on 2022 now and closing on Billy Schrauth and then going after some of the big fish he’s offered.

Curious -- who has been getting their hopes up for Colzie? Appears my comment is what started you down this recent path and I know I don't have my hopes up...

Jayden Thomas, TMA, and Jaden Slocum are the guys that seem to be most associated with ND. I could see Thomas pulling a Foskey and committing much earlier than what goes public.

Sounds like 19-21 is the expected numbers. I think we only go to 21 if we get some of the bigger names on the board. For example, we probably won’t take both TMA and Slocum so take Thomas and TMA, this gets us to 19. You have space for Thornton, Edwards, etc.

Thanks LL.

If 19-21, then aside from the obvious (Thomas and TMA) that gets us to 19, going to go with Erick Smith Jr as a poor man's Thornton/Colzie. Interesting, and rising prospect we offered recently. Not that I think we need another WR in addition to Thomas, but I do think we'd take another with that size. I'd be happy with Slocum though, but I think he stays closer to home.
