Am I missing something? Do we have 3 silent commits? I'm most bothered that the CB board doesn't seem to be expanding. We're circling around with Gervin, Burton, Griffith, and Gordon.

I don't think we get Griffith. Who knows on Gervin. And I'm not as confident as everyone else on Burton. I don't know what to expect with Gordon.

Since the beginning of September when the college season started, 33 recruits, OVERALL, have committed to school according to 247.

4 were safeties (all 3 star or below)
4 were ATH (all 3 star or below)
0 were CB

No one has gotten any.

Who cares. We're the ones who didn't take a CB last year, don't have one this year, and need to be pressing harder than 99% of the other schools because of this fact.

you know for a fact they aren't pressing harder than 99% of the other schools?

just because there are no results yet doesn't mean they aren't.

Daniel Plainview:
4 star cornerback out of Coyote Hills California.

I don't think he is a fit at Notre Dame. Seems atheist.

Soooo, how are we doing at corner? We just had our 2nd (arguably 1st) biggest recruiting weekend of the year. Still zero corners in 2017 or 2018 class.

Wow I didn't realize signing day was next week.

Lol, well glad to know we're good at corner. Here I was worried we haven't had a commit I'm 2 years. How silly of me.

Well Koon, I'll get your back here a little bit. Even though I think ND is going to get some CB's this year, I am baffled AF as to why someone - anyone hasn't jumped into the best depth chart situation at a top tier football program in the country. And '19 is off to a very crappy start too.

Makes you wonder how bad Todd Lyght's breath is.

I don't get it, because Lyght is a good coach. I don't think Watkins, Love and Crawford are at this level without him.

They must feel very confident in getting Gervin back, along with Gordon and Burton. I don't see Griffith happening. It was reassuring to have him visit, but I don't think he's a realistic get at this point. Seems like one of those guys who is a fringe academic guy at somewhere like FSU. Hopefully he's not like Beal for his own sake.

I'm not saying Lyght is bad at development but he ain't Jimmy Lake or Harlon Barnett either. It's his recruiting, which is a big part of the job.

As far as the players you mentioned... I'll take Griffith tomorrow if it's FS/CB (in the beginning), the spot they are pitching at Irvin. If it's CB only, he's too slow and he's only gonna get bigger and slower. I'm not sure he can even play FS long term. Kyler Gordon isn't coming or at least I have 0% faith it will happen. I hope like hell they've buried the hatchet with Gervin cuz he's special.

I think Burton and Bracy are locks. After that it's hopefully Gervin w/ Wilkins as his back up and Chris Mitchell on the outside looking in.

Agree other than Burton. Too quiet over there for all to be well IMO.

So our 2 biggest OV dates have come and gone, and we still don't have a corner back signed/committed in past 2 years.

Maybe we get Bracy, but we haven't yet and USC is his dream school if he gets that offer. And even if we do get him, we need 2 more.

Level of concern?

I'm concerned as a whole that after our two biggest recruiting weekends we only have a local kid who is a high 3 star low 4 star that has committed? I'm not concerned about CB recruiting to affect next year because we return everyone but thing will start looking bad after next season.

I think our DB recruiting is atrocious. Think we need to bag man some recruits Clemson style.

Win and they'll come. I get it. I'd like at least one to prove that true.

I think ND will close strong in the secondary with players off the left coast.

see thats a large falsehood. the hole in depth is already created before it shows on the field. Injury bug hits the position, and lord it will get ugly.

Yes its a concern but not because of the recruiting weekends.. Its a concern because we haven't signed someone for two years. However, plenty of recruiting yet, until all our targets start flying off the board I won't be worried

We can always move Dexter over to CB Russell style

Kids are in "visit season" right now and have other visits to take. Most guys are going to take all their visits before deciding. Just because they have a great experience at one place doesn't mean they shut everything down. If it were me I'd wait and make my visits then make a decision. I've never understood why people think there should be some run on commitments after a game like Saturday.

I'd say wait and let things play out. What if we end up with Irvin, Gordon and Bracy at corner to go with Allen and Maola at safety. That's a helluva class. And I didn't even mention Tennessee CB commit Alvontae Taylor who is very excited about visiting ND this week. Really good player.

Lol not saying this weekend won't help pull in more commits..... but it took our biggest blow out victory of usc our biggest rival to land a local safety

If NSD were today, then yes I'd say CB recruiting is horrendous. But guess what, it's not all over until February. Recruits don't give a damn about your timeline. They care only about theirs. Same song and dance.

Not stressing CB recruiting right now.

a few factors in ND's favour right now are

1) Profile: ND is trending very positively right now
2) Need: the opportunity for a top end CB to come in and get a position is high, because of the lack of recruiting at the position this year and last
3) Competition struggling: A number of top quality teams are struggling right now, potentially allowing ND coaches to come in and poach a committed CB or two
4) Quite a lengthy list of 4 star CB's in the pipeline for the 18 class already, and most still in the mix.
5) 19 class: there will be uber focus on the 19 Class if ND is limited to 1-2 3 stars this class,
6) Plenty of young CB's on current roster

I am concerned with the Oline right now. Losing McGlinchley, Nelson and possibly Mustipher and having only the two 3 stars coming after losing the transfers of last year, makes the oline situation relatively thin.

Not worried about OL. Mustipher will be back. Liam and Kraemer take over left side of OL. Banks and Lugg are top backups to starting OL next year. Let's see how this year OL recruitng finishes up. Probably already lead for two of nations best tackles in 2019 class. This is a position I never worry about. BTW I agree with your assessment of the CB position.
