Who do you want to replace Brian Kelly?

Depends how much he wants to coach this year. Even if he gets a head job it's unlikely to pay more than maybe $2M.

exactly.... sit on $3+ a year and see what comes open the next 3 years.

Hell, Petrino might get picked up and he wind back up at Louisville? maybe? he was 11-1 when he left there?

As much as I have said Strong would be great DC for Irish, he would be losing his buy-out of $10 million (over next three years?) to take $1 million-ish a year?

The contract says: "Coach has the duty to mitigate - 50% offset for compensation from other employment."

Does that mean he only gets 50% of his salary from UT if he takes another job?

Under standard contract law he would only lose the buyout for the amount he is compensated by the new job. He also has a duty to mitigate damages - which in this case would mean to seek out employment.

The terms of the agreement with Texas would govern but it would lead to perverse incentives if taking a job meant surrendering all his buyout money for that year.

Yeah. But he's not getting any younger. How often do coaches get fired, sit out a year, and wind up getting a big job a year later?
I don't know. I can see it either way. But if he wants to coach again at a high level it seems like he should stay in the game. If he succeeds the money will be there either way.

Who knows... all I know is every sports outlet says he's owed $10 million and his contract was until 2019. I'm just using simple math. Sit on my a$$ for three years and get paid....

Sure, to each his own. For sure - he will be coaching again someday.

if strong can't find a hc gig he likes, then we might have a good shot of getting him.

Bet Fleck goes to the Ducks... they want him too.

From my understanding, if they couldn't get Tom Herman, they were going to sit on Helfrich's buyout until next year. Things must change fast?

No worries, whatever service you subscribe to will have a copycat story any time now or at worst, someone will post the Cliff's Notes tonight after a day of boozin.

Remember, Weis got fired the Monday after his last loss... even after they basically started planning to let him go after losing to Navy. So I think anything is possible until from now until Monday/Tuesday next week. There is no indication right now that any firing is imminent the way the public facade is being put out there.

Weis' last year was also eerily similar to this one... 6-6 with all 6 losses by 7 points or less. Realistically, "should've" won 4 of the 6 and had horrible breaks (bad refs at Michigan, miscues against Navy, 2OT collapse to UCONN, blown leads against Stanford). Historically looking at Weis/Willingham I'm not sure how it's even a question Kelly should be fired right now.

The question is the 6 year extension signed just this year.

The only way I would take Fleck is if he were hired in as a position coach at ND and he works his way up.

Fleck's resume does not impress me one bit to take the head coaching job at ND.

I want to see what he can do with a bigger program than Western Michigan. He is going to need a bigger boat to row outside of the MAC.

For those saying that to go out and get a D.C. I am with you 100%. I would hope by now that Charlie Strong has already received a call from ND today.

ND needs a D.C. who is going to bring in some discipline. Strong is a perfect candidate-- he has been at ND before, he doesn't put up with B.S., he's made relationships in TX (good for recruiting), and he reminds me of a Tony Alford.

Get to calling Strong....

Right. I bet we wished we would have taken Meyer coming out of Bowling Green rather waiting for his Utah and Florida and OSU gigs. And looking back it looks like we took wunderkind Willingham instead.

There is an old saying that says The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.

When do we start getting the " such and such head coach was spotted in South Bend". Those are my favorite.

Nothing beats transfer deadline day rumors in the EPL

and the build up towards signing day should be a blast this year!

signing day would be more hype if recruits had to show up on campus to sign their LOI's.

"Deontay Greenberry spotted at Arby's in Mishawaka!"

I know some of the posters here have connections and insider info with some of the big money alumni. Has there been talk about pushing BK out? I know the big boosters make noise and just wondering if anything has been said.

Makes you wonder with all the news of BKs agent looking around for him. I would think he would be feeling some heat from more than just fans to do that.

This is what I love. Big money people want to push him out without a clue who you would hire to replace him. That's how you end up with Davie, Willingham and Weis.

Davie was brought in to be DC and Lou's heir-apparent. The plan was in place when Lou got let go.

It's interesting though. The big money guys are the ones that tagged BK to replace CW early on and they got their wish. Now here we are...

They have plans, will the 49 people on the BoT agree with them is the question.

Plan A = Offer Saban 7yr / $100M.
