Assuming Kelly leaves...which is a big assumption at this point, the one plus here (someone said it in an earlier post) is that the program is actually in a much better place than before Brian Kelly took it over. There is solid (but not spectacular) talent across the team and some of the prior issues coaches had with ND in terms of administration, training table, etc....are better. So, as frustrated as everyone is with Kelly.. I give him and Swarbrick credit for leaving the program in a much better place than when they walked in here.
All that being said, this remains a tough place to coach and that certainly doesn't help us out here. I hope we continue to hire coaches that have college experience (hopefully we learned from our past in hiring Davie and Weis) as a head coach. That being said the most proven coaches who don't have a job would be Les Miles or Art Briles. Can't see either of those happening...Briles given his sketchy past at Baylor and not sure Miles would be a good fit.
Like most everyone here, I think Tom Herman would be great - but ND would likely have to beat out Texas and LSU and others for his services. So, IF we can't get Herman I think we end up with an up and coming coach like Larry Fedora (UNC), Dana Holgerson (WVU), Fleck (WMU), Klawson (Wake Forest)... other interesting names would be David Cutcliff (Duke), Chip Kelly (SanFran) ,Gundy (OK State) and Jeff Brohm (WKU).
