ND: Alumni...wasn't a big college football fan before that but it has become my favorite sport.

Yankees/Rangers/Knicks/Giants: From NY. My parents hate sports but my uncle and older cousin were big fans so they made me watch with them.

Manchester United: I played Fifa on my computer back in the day and really liked playing with Man U. Loved Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Was also a big Van Nistelrooy fan. And I like winners.

Order of love:
ND
Rangers
Giants
Knicks (would like to see them win the championship more than anyone besides ND though)
Yankees (used to be #1 but I'm starting to get bored with baseball in general. Bring back Steroids!!)

Notre Dame (football): Grew up just west of South Bend. Everyone I know from back home is fan. Loved campus ever since the first time I set foot on it for a class field trip in elementary school.

IU (basketball): Yes, I'm one of "those people." My entire family are die hard IU fans. It just gets passed down.

Chicago Bears: Again, growing up in northwestern Indiana, I spent more time in Chicago than I did anywhere else.

MLB Baseball: Gets tricky. Admittedly, I'm a wishy washy "fan" of certain teams based on era. I grew up a huge Oakland As fan because I loved Ricky Henderson. My dad took me to see Pete Rose play once, so I didn't exactly hate the Reds. I later cheered for the Mariners because Ken Griffey Jr became my favorite player (and still is all time). The Braves became my favorite team for a short time during their stretch of dominance. But I eventually grew to cheer for the Chicago teams: Initially the Sox because my school gave me free tickets to Sox games for getting on the Honor Roll and they were the "cool" team to cheer for. Later I became a Cubs fan mostly because all of my friends were and there isn't anything quite like a party in the Bleachers during a day game. Nowadays, I still consider myself a Cubs fan, but mainly because of loyalty and for fear that one day they win the WS and I'll look like a jackass if I abandoned them. Haha.

Chicago Bulls: Geography and Michael Jordan made this the easy choice. Nowadays I follow the Bulls, but I live in Indy so I also follow the Pacers. And since Lebron is my favorite player, I follow his career as well.

NHL: Never been a huge fan of hockey, but gun-to-my-head, it's the Blackhawks based on my loyalty to Chicago teams.

Soccer: Not a big enough fan to have a favorite team. Although I do enjoy watching the World Cup.

Alabama Football: "I've always liked how they can compete for and win titles without top flight talent. They only recruit high character kids, and I appreciate that"

North Carolina Basketball: "I like how the players are held to high academic standards"

Yankees: "Classy organization that is always an underdog worth rooting for. Been 5 years without a title. Talk about being against all odds!"

Los Angeles Lakers: "I almost switched to being a Heat fan last season, but Lebron left."

Detroit Red Wings: "Grew up a DIE HARD Canadiens fan, but found myself rooting for the Wings more and more in the late 90s."

Dallas Cowboys: "America's Team!!!!!! NUFF SAID"

Sox fan and Steelhead in your Username.... may I deduce you are a former Regionite? Lake, Porter or LaPorte?

Try and stay on topic!

What's the story behind what teams you root for?

His is geographically self explanatory... I was more interested in the eclectic stories.... like your's being that you're possibly the only ND-Reds-Broncos fan ever.

I was just giving him a hard time, didn't think italics was necessary.

HA! You are probably correct.

Was raised an ND fan out of the womb by my Dad who is an alum.

Pats, Sox, Celtics, Bruins due to being born and raised 20 mins outside Boston. Huge Pats fan (little below ND) and then Sox, Celts, Bruins in that order.

ND: 3rd generation season ticket holder
Colts/Pacers/Indy Eleven/Reds: Closest teams to me because that's how people who aren't un-American communists choose teams
Arsenal: The first pro soccer match I watched was Barca-Arsenal in the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final so why not
USMNT: Because I'm American
Butler Basketball: My school

My ranking would go

Pacers
Notre Dame
USMNT

Butler Basketball
Colts

Indy Eleven
Arsenal

Reds

IRISH - born into it.

HALOS - grew up 15 minutes from the park and I am not a gang member so I couldn't be a dodger fan.

CLIPPERS - laker fans are on a par with USC fans. some good ones, mostly fair-weather. I never liked nick the quick and hate kobe, plus clipper tickets used to be way cheaper.

DUCKS - proximity to my home.

ND fan- grew up in south bend meaning nd football was my only focus on Saturdays in the fall.

Chicago fan- grew up watching the bears, bulls, cubs and Blackhawks with my dad.

Really when it comes down to it for me, it's about where I grew up

You got me. Lake County(Calumet Region).

I was born in Gary... I feel ya. I used to have Steelies run up the creek in our yard in LP Co.. Catch 'em barehanded and grill them immediately. Not much beats that.

My parents grew up in Brunswick and attended (the now defunct) Gary Edison High. My family lived in Glen Park until about the early 90's when I was starting high school. Would have went to Calumet High, but we moved to Porter County. It was getting too bad.

They graduated from Emerson right? Edison was over in East Gary - Lake Station. Both of my parents went to Emerson too my Dad played with Alex Karras. So you grew up in unincorporated GP until the 90's.... You got me beat, We bolted from Miller in the early 70's. My Grandparents stuck it out for a bit longer. One Grandma lived just east of Brunswick on 5th Ave then moved out by US 30 Dragstrip and the other GP's stayed in Aetna next door to the Kittle's until they moved in the early 80's. Shame what that city became.

Me: Italian/German/Irish Catholic grandparents with a little Cherokee and Welsh thrown in. Grew up downtown Indy in an Italian Catholic neighborhood.

Colleges
ND - Irish blood, Catholic, Indiana,,, and basically every Catholic in Indy is a fan (at least when I grew up).

IU - I followed my Dad in attending and getting a degree. He was a crazy Bobby K fan. I am too. More of a basketball fan than anything.

UT (Tennessee) - when I moved to ATL my buddy who is older (mid 60s) and a UT grad invited me to a UT/ND game in Knoxville. The short story is ND were big underdogs but came back and beat UT late in the 4Q. I feared for my life after hearing all the horrible SEC fan stories however everyone was kind, congratulating, and for the most part claim to love the Irish (huge Irish population there I've been told). Spent that evening drinking with the RV crowd who treated me well. Started going to more games with him, and a year later chipped in for 2 extra season tix. BONUS - I hated UGA/BAMA/LSU/UF/KY so UT was an easy "like" for me if I was going to live in SEC land.

Georgia Tech - closes major college, I hate UGA

Pro/National

Colts - grew up in Indy
Broncos - Peyton, enough said.

Pacers - grew up in Indy

Soccer - USA first, Germany/Italy national teams, and Bayern/Milan - heritage

Baseball - Cubs/Reds - closes to Indy

Notre Dame Football: My "next door" neighbor's (I lived on a farm in Northern Minnesota, he lived a 1/4 mile away) father was a former Irish football player. In Minnesota, college football is overlooked for the most part. It's not the case that if you're born in Minnesota that you're automatically a Golden Gopher.

Minnesota-Duluth: Born in raised in Duluth Minnesota. I have always loved my Bulldogs. When someone here in Florida thinks that I am a Gopher, I get borderline offended. I'd become a Trojan or Wolverine before I became a Gopher.

Vikings, Wild, and Twins: I'm from Minnesota.

Order of importance:
1. ND Football
2. UMD Hockey
3. Vikings
4. Twins
5. Wild

Finally, the first Coach Knight reference after a bunch of Indiana responders. I'm a big fan too. I spent a couple of years around the program in the mid 80's. Pretty wild times to witness first hand an not through the eyes of ESPN or Feinstein.

Crusader, there was an actual Gary Edison on the west side. They were the Blazers, and became Gary West Side High.

I stand corrected. You are older than. I was expecting. Gary Edison closed in the 60's... Or they made it into a Jr high or grade school.
