The studio that does the “Kingdom Come” games is doing a Lord of the Rings RPG…
I assume this is a good thing, even if it’s just a Middle Earth skin over a Kingdom Come game??
Even if it were a skinsuit, it could be very good. Sometimes companies get too cute with games.
Prime example is the Battlefield series. BF1942, BF2, BF3, BF4...all very good! Then BF1 was great! But their other titles (including BF6) have been....underwhelming.
BF could absolutely make people very happy if they basically pumped out the same game with updated graphics, engine updates, minor tweaks. Instead, the later iterations of the game have become more and more akin to Call of Duty on a bigger map.
The only exception is maybe Battlefield 1. That game had a very cinematic feel to it. Felt like the company wanted to give WW1 long overdue credit as a setting for a war game...so they really leaned into it.
I digress. People like KCD a lot. People like LOTR. KCD has earned some equity. Prior LOTR games that I played (RotK, Two Towers, Shadow of War/Mordor) were pretty hack n slash button mashing. KCD is not. So that could be interesting! Curious if it'll be like KCD when you are just a specific guy or if it would be more like Elder Scrolls with race/kingdom selection.
For purposes of making the game as deep as possible, I think it would probably be best to just follow the KCD route.
