Finally getting around to building my first rig.

Thinking about doing this. I want something high end that will last a while. I think I will be staying away from the AMD 3XD’s for now and just stick with getting a 7700x. Any critiques or inputs are welcome.

Yeah, that should last you a good while. Your build is about twice what I'm paying for mine, but I'm fine with using good stuff from 2021/2022 to save a buck.

4070ti, 64GB DDR5, i9 13th gen - juice it out. You'll use a desktop more than a PS5/Xbox since you can work from home on it and never have server issues when Karen is running an i3 trying to send you a message on microsoft teams.
My God this looks like it'd cost several thousand dollars!

The Steam Summer sale just started, goes through July 13th. Normally I'd used this time to add more titles to my library (Where they collect dust), but I'm going to restrain myself since I just bought the parts for the new rig (Last pieces arriving today). Ironic, no new games for the new build. Might pull the trigger finally on Cyberpunk if it's on sale again in the Fall.

Whiskey would recommend this! You're a lawyer, take it out of the nose candy fund and invest it into a good PC. You're still under the age of 40 no need for the sad dad setup.

Get 4 monitors. Start day trading. Boom success.

Please tell me it's not chew/dip. Or are you the corporate law guy hitting his vape at his desk? Had a m&a lawyer tell me had connections to banned juul pod flavors, guess it's the high school weed guy for grown ups.

I dipped from 17-29. Switched to Rogues (similar to Zyn) during my last year of law school because we were required to mask up, which made spitting dip juice impractical. I am very much not a corporate guy. Not many of those in ND (though there are a few).

Got everything put together tonight. I fucked up on the processor. I thought I got the right Ryzen 7, but my board was AM5 socket so I needed to run to Microcenter and get the 7700X version. Cost a bit more, but it's faster too, so it's a nice upgrade in the end.

Shit is running fast. Fired up 7 Days to Die on Ultra and it was hitting 60 FPS with no drop. Gonna try a few other games, but everything is looking pretty crisp and movin' quick.

RDR2

Just set up camp outside of Valentine on Horseshoe Overlook. Spent the first 30 mins there wandering from wagon to wagon, talking to people, and quickly boosting my honor by doing chores.

I… loved it? It turns out doing busy work in a western life simulator is really fun.

Steam Summer Sale ends in a few days, just a reminder.

Been playing the new version of 7 Days to Die lately. I love that game, probably my favorite Survival/Crafting game in the genre period. I don't know why they don't just do the full release, it's been in "Alpha" for almost 10 years now and it's super stable. The only thing I can think of is they haven't added a few features that they've wanted to do for some time, namely NPC Bandits/Raiders. The game is very good though, great to play with friends or even solo.

I've also started playing the first Suikoden on my Raspberry Pi. I really wanted to try Suikoden 2 out first as I had been hearing good things for years on that one, but apparently there's some kind of tie in with the original game where you can use save data so I figured I'd try out the original first. The game is certainly very old school turn based RPG. The story is decent, although no other game probably suffers more from a "too many background characters" as this one. There's 108, yes, 108 possible characters you can recruit for your faction. Not all of them are combat characters, some just fulfill roles in your base, but yeah...it's a lot. There are some main characters for sure that are fleshed out better than others, and the game often forces you to take some of these characters on mission for plot purposes. Sometimes they force you to take a few too many characters, IMO, which kind of defeats the purpose of giving you options.

The one nice thing about the combat in this game is it kind of prevents you from over leveling. Monsters that are below your level will give very little XP, HOWEVER, if you take some under-used characters into battle against very strong monsters they'll level up exponnetially faster to catch up to your other characters. That's a nice feature in a game with several dozen playable characters.

Overall I'm enjoying the first game though and looking forward to Suikoden 2 which gets rave reviews and is often on Top RPG lists. In fact, in an era (PS1) of RPGs that included FF VII, FF Tactics, Lunar, Star Ocean, and SotN there are many that put Suikoden 2 at the top of the list.

Can I give you $5 to stop reminding me? Haha I keep trying to forget so I don't spend money.
I have a bad habit of clearing out chunks of my wishlist during the seasonal sales. I spent a lot of money on the computer rebuild this month though, so I wanted someone that I could live vicariously through

Suikoden II is in my top 10 favorite games. Suikoden V is great as well.
