finally got in a grove of sorts in Kingdom Come,… got about a third into the main story and stopped gonna focus on just side quests for a bit

Word of warning: if you haven't started the quest to save the people at the Sasau Monastery you may want to do some prep ahead of time as it's a timed quest. The longer it takes you to complete, the more people die. Definitely make sure you have a horse first so you can get around quicker. You'll want to have 100 Hare/Game meat when you start, which may seem like a lot, but if you spend a little time hunting with Mutt he'll bring a shit ton to you without lifting a finger. Next there's a quest in Rovna with the lone survivor there, it'll help if you do that quest first. Finally if you haven't played with Alchemy yet you may want to get familiar with brewing potions as you may need to do a few. The Lullabye Potion in particular is easy to learn, the others you can buy. I ended up having to reload a previous save to complete that quest.

if you search out the treasure maps you can find some great armor hidden in chests

Will do. In fact the last couple in games days were nothing but leveling archery and herbalism in the morning, sword and defense in the afternoon with Bernard and then doing some reading before bed. I think I’ll do like two more days of that before moving to alchemy and then moving back into quests. I tried the ‘take out the bandit’ leader side quest and good lord I got massacred.

Speaking of Alchemy and KC-D, I can't believe how detailed the brewing is in this game. Makes Elder Scrolls and other games look like child's play. You're selecting a base, dropping in ingredients one at a time, boiling said ingredients for a defined period, using the mortar and pestle, distilling, and finally bottling. I usually don't bother with potions in games because cooking and brewing isn't my thing, but I could get into this Alchemy in KC-D. I've gotten pretty good using the Grindstone too now, my Maintenance is up to 12. These kind of detailed skills in a game feel more rewarding when you master them imo. It's not just "Select 2 items, boom, you're done."

The nice thing is alchemy ingredients are relatively cheap, so it doesn't matter if you screw up. Basically you just follow the recipe, yes. The book is right there next to the Alchemy setup so you can read as you brew. You add a base, you add one ingredient, you boil if you need to, add another, etc. Lullabye potion is a good one to practice on imo.

Snuck in a couple hours on Hogwarts Legacy last night.

Game is absolutely beautiful. I was amazed at how good it looks. I'm on a PS5, but my TV is just a generic Walmart brand 4k, so it doesn't have any fancy settings. But this game looks better than any game I've played yet... and the PS5 version of Valhalla is pretty nice.

It's got some issues that aren't surprising from a studio that doesn't have a track record of making big, open-world games (some weird lighting issues, texture stuff, dialogue can be a bit jumpy).

Haven't gotten far enough to really get into combat/spell combinations, but the animations and controls are satisfying, as is the defense/counter mechanic. I'm playing on their hardest difficulty, and the timing windows to block/counter are unforgiving, and sometimes non-existent. Not only that, but their 'hard' setting is kind of old-school in that it affects how many uses you get from your items, like the healing vial, as well.

THE BEST PART: you use the Revelio charm to illuminate nearby POI's... very much like Assassin's Creed and its Eagle Vision mechanic. I feel right at home!

I'm actually waiting to get a PS5 to get this. My PC would definitely run it, but I think my wife might want to play it and she's not into video games, so a PS5 makes it way more accessible. I know all of the drama around everything, but in the end I'm glad it's a well put together video game.

Na, too easy. My last run through was a pure Mage build. No melee weapons whatsoever. It's not bad late game, but early game you run out of Mana too fast and do a lot of running for your life. You're exceptionally squishy always. It's fun using Illusion to turn allies into enemies though. I refuse to use Lockpicks too in a pure Mage run, so instead I created a Mod years ago to add Lockpicking spells to the game.

I did a decent job on my last character years ago being a legit mage. Didn't carry a bow because... as you said...stealthy mage.

For real. I've been having a blast as well. I do have a mid to high end TV with 4K at 60 FPS, and it looks great still. I've been playing the performance mode at 60 FPS with less than 4K graphics, but it still looks amazing. Combat is so fluid and so many small details make this Harry Potter nerd smile from time to time.

For whatever reason, I never played the original Mafia. The definitive edition is free this month on Playstation so I snagged it. While it's a remake and whatnot, they've kept some of the same controls and shooting/fighting mechanics. It's a little rough to get used to when compared to more modern controlled games, but I'm enjoying it.

SotN is amazing if you've never played it. Never really got into the Tomb Raider games. My brother and I did play the shit out of Cool Boarders in high school. I have yet to play Metal Gear Solid.
