If you didn't know (May have posted it in a different thread) G4 looks to be returning next year.

That's old info though. Just saw this:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eyBq6apzUHg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Looks like Olivia Munn will be there. Sara Jean Underwood better make an appearance...maybe as Bustice.

Made it to the title card in Valhalla, and was then introduced to the modern-day portion of the narrative...

AC: Valhalla has been fun so far. Looks beautiful on my generic PS4, so I can only imagine what it looks like on a PS5 (or even a PS4 Pro on a good TV).

I'm not too far in terms of the story, but it's got me hooked already. 'Odyssey' hooked me because of the historical setting, though the story itself was kind of meh... 'Valhalla,' on the other hand, has me engrossed in how the story will unfold.

I'm probably 10 hours in, but I haven't even reached the title card yet... I've spent a lot of time running around mountains, getting comfortable with the controls and how the character responds to them.

Combat is throwing me off a bit. I usually play on 'normal,' but I decided to go for the challenge with this one and bumped it up. May have been a mistake, considering it's an adjustment to learning how to dual-wield weapons in this one. You have a primary-hand light and heavy attack with the right bumper and trigger, and a secondary-hand attack with the left bumper (left trigger is for switching to ranged attacks). However, you don't REALLY attack with the left hand... you have to use it to parry, and choose careful times to hold the button down to perform a combo attack that will use both the secondary and primary hands. Kind of counter-intuitive, but not necessarily a bad thing, as it takes away a hack-and-slash element that would be present if you were just spamming light attacks back-and-forth between L1/R1. You have to be strategic about choosing your dual-wield combo, and also how best to use the secondary hand in general.

Sailing is fun in that the water and setting looks good as you get around, though they've taken open-water hostility away. It seems like mayyyyybe they lifted "Story Time on the Boat" from God of War, as you can order you crew to share stories with you to pass the time while sailing, but the stories are less about lore, and more about your crew building chemistry by sharing stories about raids they were on together, so it is a bit different (and not nearly as well written as GoW).

Stealth play is a little different, but still good. Enemy awareness is dialed up, especially on a harder setting. It's tough to be a sneaky viking.

They reworked the ranged attack mechanics to make the 'predator' bow the obvious stealth-playstyle compliment. Hunter and Light bows use third-person views, as is normal in the game, but the 'predator' bows switch you to first-person view when you aim, having you look through the bow's sight and down the shaft of the arrow. Different, but cool, and makes it feel rewarding to pick enemies off from a distance as you sneak between points of cover.

I'm excited to sink 100+ hours into this game, unless something drastic changes after seeing the title card once I've played the next main story mission.

And that's a preliminary 'IrishLion Reviews Assassin's Creed' entry for Ubisoft's latest title. I know you all were waiting for it with great eagerness.

I forgot the when I first started playing to go everywhere I could to start. So I had to start over by the story is really good and getting use to the dual weapons is something else. I started over and I haven't even gotten the hidden blade yet but I close to getting it. Ive taken care of every area that I could get into so far

Reviews are going up for Cyberpunk and early returns are basically what I remember Witcher 3 being on release. Most are saying its great, but a lot of larger outlets are saying its underbaked and buggy. Unless I hear something that reawakens the hypebeast within me, I might try to wait and let patches sort out the problems. I do think those who played with Witcher 3 for the first time after Blood and Wine came out had the best overall experience.

Was watching a look back at the prior generation sort of thing and just realized that in 2015 Metal Gear Solid V, Witcher 3, Bloodborne, and Fallout 4 all came out.

I've always been a Sony fan, but now that Microsoft bought Bethesda, I can't justify the cost of a PS5. Not being able to play the next Elder Scrolls, Fall Out, Doom, etc. would be too depressing.

I'll be joining the PC Master Race again once I can get my hands on a graphics card...

PM me to remind me to check my closet. I've got an older GPU that I think would probably do the trick for a moderate set up at a cheap price.

Hasn't been confirmed yet whether such games won't be available on PS5 though I would say they will, its too much money for Microsoft to throw away by slashing their outreach by a third

PC Master Race is definitely the way to go, especially when it comes to Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Modding adds even more life to those games. There's no guarantees they'll leave Sony out when those games are released though. Wasteland 3 was released on Sony and reps have said it wouldn't be crazy for them to release on all platforms to recoup their investment costs, no official word yet one way or the other. Microsoft seems content with friendly competition in the market anyway, the CEO made some mention of it leading up to the new console releases.

Idk.. there is something to be said about having flagship games everybody is used to playing come only to your system. "Idk if I want a Ps5 or xbox...well...Xbox has halo, fallout, and elder scrolls. I guess I'll go with them"

Exclusives certainly can help you drive consoles sales, but for the last few generations at least the companies seem to sell their consoles marked down close to cost (At least according to them). They've made their money selling the games instead, and most devs have figured out you maximize profits going multi-platform. If Microsoft is in the business of making money, my guess is they still release on Sony, but maybe use a delayed release schedule...who knows.

I’ve had a run of good luck with avoiding those early game-breaking glitches and bugs that Ubisoft is famous for stashing in AC games the first few months of release...

Almost ran into my first one tonight. It’s a bug in a main quest where a longship spawns in the middle of the road, preventing the “speak” script that is required to proceed on the mission. Even if you reload and get the quest marker and “speak to Ubba” objective to unlock, the longship in the road prevents the characters from getting on their horses and leaving the area, leaving TWO major ways for the game to break during a main quest.

Thankfully an auto-save from 15 minutes earlier saved my ass. Loaded that, fast-traveled to the POI, and the longship was still in the road (!), but far enough to the side that the NPCs got on their horses and proceeded with the mission, passing the glitched boat rather than getting stuck before it.

Related: I’m getting very excited about Cyberpunk... but I’m not mad that I’m gonna have to put another two months into AC before I can move on to that. Reviews of versions of Cyberpunk that are NOT on high-end PCs are not great!

Full faith that they’ll iron it out like they did Witcher III, and that Cyberpunk will be considered one of the GOATs down the road... but I’ll wait for the version with the free DLC that is actually optimized well for whatever game system I have when the time comes.

Currently building a Raspberry Pi/Retro Pi build with 19 systems on it. Everything from Atari 2600 to Playstation/Dreamcast/N64. I've already got the games loaded onto it and it's mostly configured, just struggling getting the Dreamcast emulator to recognize the controller like I want it to. Trying to find a suitable way to scale the display of the N64 and Playstation games on a big screen too, cause right now it wants to display only in the native 640 x 480 display the originals had...super tiny on a big screen.

I've got it all stored on a 128 GB Micro SD card, and with that much space I can fit every 8 bit and 16 bit game from the Atari, NES, SNES, Sega, Sega Genesis eras plus over 100 Playstation games, about 15 Dreamcast games, and 100 N64 games. Once I've finalized configurations I'm gonna make an image of the SD card and port it over to 3 more cards and build a few more Retro Pis for family and friends as Christmas gifts. Something close to 9,000-10,000 games on this thing right now.

ACamp, it has every Dragon Warrior/Quest game from 1-7. I tried to put 8 on there, but the Raspberry Pi can't handle a PS2 emulator yet.

Still playing and really enjoying Valhalla.

HOWEVER. I started watching a "Let's Play" on Bloodborne... It looks awesome. I've never played any of the Souls games, nor Bloodborne or Sekiro, but I am very interested in picking one of them up after I'm done with Valhalla.

For those of you with experience... how does the combat compare to the new 'God of War'? I know GoW was a departure in that while maintaining some of the hack-and-slash elements, it was obviously much more about pattern detection and combat strategy.

Is it a fair comparison in terms of difficulty with boss fights? (Does a 'boss' fight in Bloodborne compare to a Valkyrie fight in GoW, for example? Sigrun was a pain in the ass, but it was also a fun challenge to me. How many bosses in Bloodborne are like her?)

I am about 30 hours in. I am enjoying it, but I am not in love with it, yet. I am hoping the Raids get better. I feel like the ones I have done so far are all the same, just slightly different layout. But, I will say, I am very happy with the environment/exploration so far.

DS2 is the only FromSoft game I've played, so take this for what it's worth (greyhammer will likely disagree).

They're both Action RPGs. GoW leans into the former; DS into the latter. GoW is one of my favorite games, while DS2 was one of the least enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had. GoW was challenging, but never felt unfair. FromSoft revels in "gotcha" bullshit, heavily penalizes you for dying, and gives you virtually no guidance on how to advance the storyline.

I had to practice to beat Sigrun on GMGoW difficulty. In DS2, I one-shot 95% of the bosses just by rolling past them to the right, backstabbing a few times, and then waiting for the next attack. Bloodbourne and Sekiro are supposed to be harder and better games, so maybe this analysis doesn't apply to them. But as far as DS2 is concerned, the increased "difficulty" was almost entirely due to losing large amount of souls to cheap trash mobs and fall damage.

Speaking of the video game thread, I'm gonna use my mod powers to find some emails and check in on our friends Acamp and Wiz. I miss those guys, and hope they're doing okay wherever they may be.

I see ACamp on Facebook all the time. He's alive and well.

That is good news!

Wiz already responded to my email, he's doing good too. Just working from home and staying busy. He said he'll be back with us eventually.

A couple-month layoff isn't unusual for posters... but during a pandemic (and a really good season for ND), I do wonder about the regular guys that we haven't heard from in a while.

I’m well, just taking a little sabbatical, I’m sure I’ll be back regularly at some point (sorry if that’s bad news to any of our more ornery members).

I actually have three mod systems, a hacked snes classic with a bunch of snes, nes and game gear games, a pi with like 400 games and a retro arch hacked PlayStation classic with just about every game made from Atari to Ps1,... including the dragon warrior games (Still want the hard copies with inserts tho). It’s super cool.

Anyway, I’m thinking ps5 around time for the show but who knows. Aside from that I hope everyone is doing well, Merry Christmas.

Buy Bloodborne and don't listen to Whiskey. He's played the worst Fromsoft game despite my continued praising of every Soulsborne that isn't Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls 2 wasn't even directed by Miyazaki for f*cks sake. Whiskey did the equivalent of looking at Microsoft Paint artwork by Ringo Star and now says that he doesn't like Beatles music.

Bloodborne is one of the best games of the last decade, you should buy it and play it.

I'll specifically refute any implication that GOW is more of an "action" game than Bloodborne. In GOW, if you walked into Valkryie fights without purple gear, your damage was sponged to the point of being pointless. Bloodborne you basically don't have to upgrade anything all game, though it's fun to do so.

It also has one of the best settings in video game history, is spooky without being actually scary, and generally is the most forgiving of the Soulsborne series because spamming the attack button in a panic is a viable strategy. Buy it. Do it.

Replaying the Witcher 3.

Every time I arrive in Toussaint...

Btw this is the first time I've ever played the game with a few small mods. Having the game auto-apply the correct oil every time you start a fight is a total game changer. Upgrading oils feels like a huge boost instead of making me feel more obligated to pause the game at the beginning of every fight to apply.

I'm playing this for the first time too. The whole weapons system has taken a bit to get used to, but I like it. Adds a different dimension to the series, and I've already unlocked a few extra slots for extra weapons which makes it easier.

Got off the Plateau a few days ago and hit the first town. I've done a lot of exploration, a bit surprised that the game world feels a little...empty at times? Maybe a little too big? It's been fun though. I probably spent close to an hour just taming various horses, trying to get the best stats.
