It's "Redemption"... My bet is they establish Morgan as being a major baddass murderer early on and you slowly move towards the 'redemption' part...

I've only played one open world game all the way through more than once... hell most open world games I've played and enjoyed I've never even finished once. I've played all the way Red Dead 3 separate times and still have it so who knows I might do it all again with the build up to this.

Can't believe Rob Wiethoff hasn't done any other voice over work. Marston is probably my favorite vidja protagonist of all time, and he's a big reason for that.

I love Rockstar games and they can occasionally do a pretty good job with their main characters (See: Marston, John), but playing through both Red Dead and GTA games the constant "stereotype/personification of an American cultural evil" that is nearly every side character gets sooooo old.

Usually, yes. Amazon leases space at UPS warehouses for their most popular items, usually at airports and whatnot. They're delivered right from there. There are often early releases for preorders as well. For example, my Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition will be delivered on November 14, three days before release.

It's true. But I guess that's my point. Rockstar seems to have this weird fear of fully embracing good writing. Every time they come really really close to creating a poignant moment, they make sure to stick a really lame joke that feels like it belongs in an Adam Sandler movie in there.

EDIT: Actually, I was able to find a video that pretty perfectly sums up how Rockstar are their own worst enemy about this kind of thing. It uses GTA V as the discussion, but I think a lot of the criticisms about the writing carry over to all of their games:

I get that about Rockstar... it wouldn't be so bad if it were just one series or a couple games but it is pretty much across the board with every series or game... all sterotypes or pull cards from the easy bake character Rolodex. I've seen that video before and agree when it said it's just a strange fit to make something so complex and deep and detailed and then have all the human interactions be to hallow and lacking.

I'm still all over RDR in a hot second tho.

Like I said it would be fine if it were one game or series and that was it's 'thing'... but it is pretty much all Rockstar games and it does get tired, I'm with Grey on that. They could do for one series to be more genuine with the human stories and interactions.

It's not a huge complaint with a game this large and amazing tho.. Red Dead is my fav game ever.

Its certainly more jarring in GTA but the fact that it's done in every other Rockstar game makes me look at it less kindly than I would otherwise. If it was Naughty Dog I'd think it was deliberate. With Rockstar I'm like, "oh this lazy shit again."

I could buy that about some games that "try" to be serious, but GTA has NEVER tried to be serious in its writing. That whole youtube video about "why make this large, beautiful world if everything turns into a dick joke?" has a simple answer: That's what Rockstar wants from GTA.

GTA has always essentially had one direction: Make a world as big and as interesting and as interactive as possible, and let the player cause chaos while using a broad story with many threads to satirize some aspect of culture.

It's been that way since GTA2, where the satire revolved around gangland and the radio was crucial for providing more commentary. GTAIII satirized the Godfather with a modern-day twist. Vice City satirized Scarface, and the 80's in general. GTAV satirizes every heist movie ever made, as well as modern-day life.

The only departure was GTAIV. The story was actually really good, and played like a true story-mode, rather than a bunch of missions thrown together to tie a loose story together, but the overall tone suffered in the shadow of what the GTA series is supposed to be.

They create a big beautiful world so they CAN avoid overly serious dialogue, and instead litter it with boob jokes and commentary on how dumb we all are. When they have a big breakthrough moment that seems to be on its way, and you're hopeful that Jimmy is going to stop being a toolbox, and that Michael is going to finally do a decent dad thing, they take a u-turn and smack you in the face with a metaphorical dick. I feel like that's on purpose.

If Rockstar wanted to do a serious game with a serious story, the majority of their consumer base would view it as a GTA knock-off. The only way to REALLY accomplish it is to make a big departure, like they tried with LA Noire, but then the consumers just say, "We want GTAVI, not an experiment in a different genre!"

That would be the ultimate. The little shit Jack Marston was so awful, they could redeem themselves big league if they let you play as John again after the main playable character gets killed 95% through the story.

One of my few complaints with RDR. Was so jarring to go from Wiethoff's John-- a grizzled bad ass-- to the rat-faced Jack with a whiny high-pitched voice.
