Chernobyl made me late for work today. Started watching it at midnight last night. Two thumbs up.

Everything was perfect except you'd think with all the collusion, an American film could get actors with Russian accents but... nyet.

Looking forward to the Deadwood movie tomorrow night. Loved the show and did a rewatch of the series not to long ago. Impressive that they have what looks like the entire cast back. HBO is doing a replay of the series, so will probably catch the last couple episodes of S3 prior to the movie tomorrow at 8pm.

Is Chernobyl recurring or a mini series?

limited mini series from what i read.

that said, Big Little Lies was a limited series too, but they decided to do a second season after it's success.

not sure Chernobyl has the same type of S2 potential though.

Stick it out for some of the 'redemption' arcs.

They are very well done, and really are hard-earned, both for the characters and the viewer.

It's also neat to the see the characters and themes progress alongside the different eras of history that the show stretches through.

This.

Personally I find the second half of the show much more enjoyable.

Definitely stay with it. There are parts where you find yourself feeling compassion for Don Draper even if he is the biggest man-whore around. Having grown up in the 60's, I really appreciate the attention to detail. It also brings back memories of some of the advertising of my youth I had forgotten about.

About to finish Season 2 of Mad Men, and I'm definitely going to need a break after the final episode. Everyone is still an adulterous addict. One character just casually raped his fiance. Well done, but it just feels hopeless.

Will probably start Breaking Bad next.

Oh yeah, that was awful to watch. After Season 3 is actually very good, dang this makes me want to rewatch it. The finale of Season 3 is probably their best episode ever.

And Season 4 on is practically a different show.

I just started watching it last night. It's extraordinarily good. I may not get anything else done this week until I finish it.

Everybody should watch it. One of the most important events of the 20th Century. It was a huge piece of why the Soviet Union unraveled.

Love both those shows. Both are masterpieces.

But if you're feeling down about the general feeling of the irredeemable nature of characters, Breaking Bad might not be the thing to right the ship.

First episode of Alone just aired last night.

This year contestants are dropped off just 75 miles south of the Arctic. One contestant broke his leg in the first episode.

Watched E1 of City on a Hill, Showtime's new series with Kevin Bacon and several others (EP'd by Affleck/Damon). Basically a Bostonian cop/FBI/mafia/bank-robber drama.

Very good first episode. Doesn't air for another week, but available on demand (for Comcast at least).

Also looking forward to Big Little Lies S2 tomorrow, and S2 of Yellowstone in a week or so. Loved both S1s. Pretty good summer shows. Hate Billions season comes to close tomorrow.... Might watch tonight OD.

Mad Men is phenomenal. I dont care for it as much in the later seasons since it gets a little weird. The finale was awesome though.

I'm very tempted to ask my grandma if that's how men were back then. Mildly afraid to hear the truth.

Some of Mad Men is slightly before me, or at least what I can remember (I was born in '60), but most of it rings true. For the most part, it's a pretty accurate portrayal of the attitudes and behavior of that time. A lot of what would be totally unacceptable behavior today was SOP then and viewed as perfectly acceptable and normal by virtually everyone.

I'll repeat, keep watching Mad Men. It really is one of the all-time great shows. Some of it is depressing and soul-sucking and feels hopeless. It's intentional. There's a lot of in-depth examination of just how ultimately fruitless and unfulfilling chasing the American dream thing can be sometimes. Don is a seriously damaged and flawed character (one of the most complex and fleshed out in TV history), and you're on a journey with him to find happiness. He makes a lot of mistakes along the way and destroys all that he thought he wanted. The show will reveal why, what made him this way, where did all his damage come from, and you get to go with him as he tries to sort it all out and find himself. It's 100% worth all the despair and hopelessness to get to the end. Trust me on this.

We're watching the final and there is basically one scene left where it sets up next season when it started raining in buckets and I lost the signal. About a half hour later it quits raining and I playback the final scene only to find it wasn't recorded do to the rain. LOL

I've set it to record again so we can catch the final scene.

Watched Chernobyl. I remember when it happened and I don't remember most of what was in the series being reported, but given the state of the USSR at that time not surprising.

Crazy to think they enscripted civilians to help. Killing all animals that can be found, plowing under all the ground, the continuous denials by everyone. Everyone that watched the fire from the "Bridge of Death" dyeing not long after.

The USSR was so hell bent on proving to the rest of the world that they have the perfect government that for the most part they refused outside help.

Got home last night and at 9:50 I asked the wife to see if Billions was on. I'll be damned, it was on and was exactly where I lost the signal, so we saw the final scene. All I will say is Enemies, Partners, Enemies.

Stop! Zip it!

No more Billions talk. I don't get to watch it until next weekend cuz mama just started the Dirty Little Something S2 chick show on HBO. Gotta wait for her.

Hopefully, Wags gets a spin off show after Billions ends... if he doesn't die from a lethal concoction of Blowfish & Blow first.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not giving up on it. Just need a break.

Started Breaking Bad a couple nights ago. That was probably the most compelling first episode of any series I've ever seen.

Yeah, that's a great first episode. Breaking Bad may well be the best show ever. There's not a single bad episode in the entire series.

Re-watched Yellowstone over the past few weeks in prep for S2 start on Wednesday. What a great show. Acting, writing, cinematography, casting, etc.. Looks from the previews this will start fast and stay fast. I was a little suspect of Costner on a TV show, but he's damn good as the patriarch.

Started re-watching Luther S1-4, as S5 is now available. Another terrific show, and love Elba and Wilson.

Dark S2 comes out Friday. Hope it's not a let down after a great S1.

For any of you The Missing fans out there, Baptiste (The Missing S3) is coming to Netflix (moving from Stars her in the US, originally BBC)

Ya mean Big Little Lies? It's a pretty good show even if it's a chick show. Agree on the Wags spin off. One of my favorite characters of today's TV. Dialog and writing on that show is phenomenal.

Great plots (twists/turns) by the screenwriters. Best TV season/series so far this year IMO. Can't wait to see who next year's guest start / new protagonist is.

Started watching Yellowstone. You're right, writing, cinematography and cast are all great. Up to S1 E8. Very good show with quite a few angles to keep you wondering. My only beef (small) was the scene in E8 where the Rangers horse got bit by a horse fly and she ends up impaled by the metal fence post. They could have come up with an injury that was more plausible.

As I'm watching last night it dawns on me that Yellowstone is a remake of 70's & 80's hit TV show "Dallas".

Watched City on a Hill with Kevin Bacon. Set in Boston in the early 90's when half the police force was corrupt and Whitey Bulger ruled. Bacon is a Boozing, connected FBI agent that works on the fringe. Boston law doesn't care for him. First episode wasn't bad. Will watch the next two or three to see if it goes anywhere. Damon and Affleck are executive producers.

I work on a college campus, and my work is basically at a stand-still during the summer aside from helping with workshops, so I've been binge-watching some shows on HBO for the past month that I missed during their regular run.

Vice Principals: Really enjoyed it. Had no idea it was written to be such a limited run. I could've watched 2 or 3 more seasons of Danny McBride and Walton Goggins doing their thing. The first season was okay; I think they were going for "such irreverent, terrible people that it's funny," but I don't think they quite hit the mark. Still really liked it, though. Season two was outstanding and hilarious, and they did a much better job with pulling the humor from how terrible these people are.

VEEP: Really enjoyed it. Very clever humor... kind of obnoxious when you can tell that the actors and writers *know* how clever things are, but still very good. Mike McClintock might be in my top-5 favorite TV characters of all time. Gary Walsh is perfect. The chick from "My Girl" all grown up with a potty mouth is awesome. Honestly thought the show kind of fizzled over the final season, though. Political story lines just run out of impact, even when they're over-the-top funny or ridiculous. Same thing happened to House of Cards. The political intrigue was getting stale, so they jumped the shark and the show lost some (most) of its shine.

Barry: Awesome so far. Bill Hader gets better with each episode. Currently midway through season 2... WTF with the karate dude and his daughter? The whole episode was hilarious, but it felt like a fever dream. I expected the next episode to start with Barry having been at his desk writing his own script or something.

Yup, Yellowstones has a ton of angles. So many good characters with interesting back stories. I'm a little bummed they killed off my favorite bad guy. Terrific actor. Looking forward to tonight's premiere. I know there is a lot of chatter comparing Yellowstone to Dallas, but I just don't feel it. Except for the whole family dynasty and patriarch thing, which is similar to a lot of shows, not that similar to me. Costner isn't Jock, there is now JR lol, etc.. I wasn't a fan of Kelly Reilly until this show. Love her character and she plays it well. Love Rip's character, and also enjoy the Jimmy story line. Danny Houston is always good.

I really liked City on a Hill. Thought E1 was very good, but a lot of set up. Lot of good actors. Big fan of Hodge, Tucker, and Chapman.

Check out Succession on HBO if you haven't yet. The writing/dialog/pace reminds me a lot of Billions. S2 coming later this summer. Great cast. Also, Big Little Lies is pretty damn good for a chickish show. I promise you the wife will love it. It's got terrific writing, cinematography, casting, etc., and several of the chicks aren't hard to look at lol. Great music too. Just watched S2E2 and everything looks like it's going to hit the fan.
