I've heard nothing but good things about Cane's chicken and today I got a chance to try it. It wasn't bad, and I'd even call it good, but it didn't strike me as anything special. It certainly didn't wow me. It was just average.

As is our tradition, I had buttermilk cornbread homemade in an iron skillet with ham and navy bean soup. We opted not to make fried cabbage as no one was that hungry.

We had Johnny Carino’s earlier and I’ve been stuffed ever since. Was planning on some bacon wrapped filet mignonettes (Omaha steak) for dinner but those will have to wait for tomorrow…

We had pork and sauerkraut as is tradition here in PA (with mashed potatoes) yesterday. Love it, my wife doesn't love that I love it though haha.

Came across a recipe for Sour Cream Raisin pie in a flyer. Never heard of it so I decided to make it. Called for a lot of sugar so I substituted Equal. Not too bad.

I'm eating takeout at this moment from a new Thai restaurant. You can tell them how hot, on a scale of 1-10, you want your food. I like hot. I like hot a lot. I ordered the Evil Prince Rice and decided to play it safe and just tell them 7. Apparently, 7 means something completely different in Thai than in English. JFC my nose is running, my eyes are watering, my mouth is on fire and I'm afraid that when I go to the bathroom tomorrow morning I'm gonna cry like a baby. It tastes great, but it's seriously hot.

Thai "7" is like a 15 on an American 1-10 scale. They don't fuck around.

LOL - When I was working in Charlotte I had a Thai place that I always took vendors to when they were in town. I always ordered 7 on the spice scale. Of course many of the vendors would follow my lead because they like "spicy" food. I had a lot of mad vendors back in the day...

I'm still friends with a couple of those guys and one of them was coming to Cincinnati a few weeks ago. He wanted to get together for dinner; said I could pick the place as long as it wasn't Thai food.

What restaurant in Charlotte? I have yet to find any spicy Thai food here. 1 Indian restaurant got me once but that was fluke for them because usually I have to spice up the dishes myself.

Bonzai Thai in South Charlotte. It's off Steele Creek Road over by the Premium Outlet Mall. They are closed between 2:00 and 4:30.

Had a nice shrimp part with rigatoni and garlic knots. Started with some capellini cakes with vodka sauce. Heavy on the pecorino Romano.

Biebs and Ash in Mishawaka for you those traveling to see our Irish. Great food, connected to a brewery so you can get your drank on as well. Burger joint.

Celebrating my birthday today with skirt steak tacos and pork belly chicharrones. It’s tradition that I cook for the family on my birthday. One of few things I truly enjoy. Also liquor. Much liquor. Tequila started flowing a couple hours ago.
