For those of you that enjoy whiskey, I highly recommend Alberta Premium Cask Strength. Absolutely remarkable!

Jim Murray anointed it as "Whiskey of the Year - 2021". I don't know if it is the best but it has to be close. Pretty tough to find right now and stores here are limiting purchases to a single bottle... when you can find it.

Fortunate that my brothers picked up a bottle to sample before my Lenten abstinence. At about 63% ABV it was soooo smooth.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I'll have to try it out.

I get offers at work all the time to participate in surveys, demonstrations, etc. I recently got one where the inducement to participate included a whiskey tasting survey at the end. I received a box with four glasses, a couple of bottles of water to cleanse the pallet and four small bottle of whiskey labeled 1, 2, 3 & 4. There's a tasting chart where you can score them on spice, aromatics, fruitiness/floral, wood and grain. I didn't get to participate that day so I haven't opened them up yet. The rep told me they are Maker's Mark 101, Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill and Doc Porter Rye. anyone try any of these before?

Tonight I tried Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA for the first time. Meh. I've heard so many people rave about it and seen it described as the best IIPA in America, but I wasn't really impressed. It was fairly good, but nothing special at all. There was nothing bad about the flavor, just nothing particularly distinctive or unique. A bit of a disappointment after all the stuff I've heard about how exceptional it is.

F*ck DFH. Most overrated (and overpriced) brewery I've ever come across.

Maker's Mark is one of my two favorite Bourbons. Really good stuff. I had Buffalo Trace once when I went on a tour of Bourbon distilleries back in '10. It was OK, but not my favorite. Some people really like it though. The tour of the distillery was very interesting and enjoyable.

Stocked up several bottles at the beginning of the year, including Costco brand Vodka, Canadian Whiskey, and Scotch. Did some comps vs the brands I normally buy. Vodka and Canadian Whiskey are very solid as drink mixers, and incredible value. The Vodka was as good or better (in Bloody Mary's and Cranberry/Pineapple) than several higher end brands I normally buy. The Canadian Whiskey was pretty close to Crown for Crown and Cokes/7s. Just no reason to spend more if you enjoy those drinks IMO. The scotch leaves a lot to be desired. Not bad at all, just not near the value of the others. I'll probably still spend more on some of the higher end options. Rarely do scotch or bourbon straight anymore, so not a big deal.

Last night was my annual tradition of Rochefort 10 after the Vigil Mass. It's so so much better when allowed to warm up; I've gotta be better about that. Oh and some Lagunitas Maximus and Live Oak Big Bark afterwards, long night of course.

Tonight was Barolo with the lamb for dinner. Now I've got Untitled Art + Blackstack Brewring collab of a non-stop dry hopped IIPA. A little hop burn but I do like it in spite of that. That and a few other things to crack open later, all in celebration of 6 years of being a Catholic.

Purposefully compared Canadian Whiskey's tonight (with sipping first and cola). Crown Reserve vs Whiskey Pig vs Costco. Crown Reserve sipping, no difference with a cola mix. A bud said Alberta was worse than all three.

I finally tried Willett pot still reserve. It was good, but not fantastic. Some of these bourbons are getting overhyped because they are hard to come by.

Paper Plane:
0.75 oz of bourbon;
0.75 oz of Aperol;
0.75 oz of Amaro Nonino; and
0.75 oz lemon juice. Shaken.

One of my new favorites. Nice balance of sweet, sour and botanical flavors.

Bumping this. 8 months later, and it's still my favorite cocktail.

The amaro makes a big difference, so don't skimp on that. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice is also a big step up from the store-bought variety. But it's surprisingly forgiving with the bourbon, as I can't tell much difference when mixing Bulleit vs. some of my more premium stuff.

Hey Hey Hey! He only highlighted like half a county of the great state of Pennsyltucky. We take our drinking seriously in the Coal Region!

Happy birthday Cack!

So I got on a family member's Costco membership, but the Costco here has terrible alcohol selection. The wine is okay, but that's it. The liquor store is worse than most shops I see in town. Greatly disappointed, ngl

Had my first Spotted Cow recently. Thoroughly disappointed......that I can't get more w/o driving to WI. Good stuff.

Also think I found my niche with the Islay scotches. Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg 10, and Bowmore 15 have been flowing in mi casa and I love them.

Coastal Access IPA from Pizza Port. Nelson, Citra, Moteuka & Mosaic hops. That's my grand slam.

BUT

It's brewed with a Pilsner so too thin for me considering the all star line up
