Hit up a couple breweries with my brother in Minneapolis. Had Rain Drops and Java Oats at Barrel Theory. Rain Drops is a Northeastern IPA and super juicy while Java Oats was a solid coffee stout. A small brewpub in Puerto Vallarta: Los Muertos.
Chachalaca Grapefruit IPA. A bit small on the body, but not grapefruit flavor. Solid IPA and quaffable.
Hop On American Strong Ale. Very strong dark roasted flavors, not as quaffable but good for the style.

Vermont should clearly be Alchemist Heady Topper, not Green State Lager. HT is one of the highest rated beers since they started rating them. This one shouldn't even be close.
Odd Side Ales for Michigan??? WTF?? C'mon man, Bell's Two Hearted is probably the easiest "best of the state" beer to call in the country. How in the hell do they justify Odd Side of all beers?
Sweetwater should have won Georgia too.
Honestly, didn't see really any beers that I agree with. 2/10

The problem is how to define "best beer". Jester King is almost universally touted as the best brewery in Texas, but they don't have a beer that's nearly as popular as Live Oak's Hefeweizen. It's much more of a beer nerd sort of thing.
For my money, Short's is the pick for Michigan. I've had a number of their beers and loved all of them. I actually think they're my favorite brewery in the US

I'm not sure how they were judging. As Green Mountain has far more distribution and sales than Heady Topper, but Odd Side is a pretty obscure beer in Michigan compared to Bells. So I kinda feel like the author just picked his preferred beer.
Either way... he should be ashamed of itself.

Geary's HSA (Hampshire Special Ale) is my favorite and had one of the great ad campaigns "We only brew it when the weather sucks" as it was only made during winter months. Tough to argue w Bissell Brothers so they didn't butcher the Maine choice.

My brother in law stayed with us for a week, and he's a real "son of the soil" (think that's the PC term for Hillbilly, all stories from his "interesting" visit aside). He left a trove of MGD. Currently drinking that. When's the next NASCAR race BTW?????

Articles like this are typically "pay to play". Advertise regularly or buy an add a viola you have the best beer in your State. Happens all the time in the restaurant biz. The fact that Russian River and or any of a host of San Diego brewers lost out to some newish brewery in Sacramento tells me all I need to know.

Had a Ruinten Triple earlier... sipping a SN Oktoberfest now... bought a sixer of leinenkugel pumpkin harvest today.... hate leinenkugel typically and assume I'll hate this too but it's the first pumpkin I've seen and I'm a weak man.

A just punishment for your weakness. I had one of those at a friend's house last year. I thought it was terrible. Tastes like someone poured pumpkin spice powder into a lager.
