The Shop Beer Co. And Modern Times Bingo Bango Bongo IPA. When cold it was ok. Fruity up front and bitter on the finish but suffered because there was no balance (the fruit on the front had no bitterness and the bitterness on the finish had nothing to soften it). As it warmed up it improved, staying fruity the whole way through but with a nice background of bitter citrus peel.

Allagash Tripel. This (and even more so it's whiskey barrel-aged variation, Curieux) is definitely the best American tripel.

Made more of those Negroni hybrids last night. Used Eagle Rare instead of Woodford, and it was a big improvement: 2 parts bourbon, 1 part vermouth, 2-3 dashes of orange bitters, and a spoonful of Luxardo cherry juice.

Speaking of that last ingredient, Luxardo cherries are vastly superior to the neon pink maraschinos you find in most grocery stores. But they're also $20+ jar, which is tough to justify. Fortunately for me, liquor reps are constantly handing them to my bar manager buddy in the hopes of incentivizing him to stock their stuff, so we get to drink pretty high on the hog without counting the cost.

Hang on, this whole time you've been talking about Negroni hybrids using Whiskey, you've been doing this? That's just a Manhattan with orange bitters. If it doesn't have Campari I don't know if it can be called Negroni anything.

True! Please file your complaint with marketing, as I'm in the quality control department. I was too busy putting them back to argue about terminology.

Also, it seems the Negroni/ Manhattan hybrid is called a Boulevardier, so there's that.

Today marks the 1st anniversary of my dad's death. So a few nice things to celebrate his life. We had lunch today at Nello's (Whiskey will get it, as he grew up in the same area as me).

Now
Highland Park 12yo from a bottle that I bought for my dad for Father's day about 5 years ago. He drank some of it, but I thought a pour from it was fitting tonight. I had forgotten just how enjoyable this whisky is.

Glenlivet 12. A pour from a sample bottle from the first bottle of Scotch that I bought as an adult. Circa 2003 +/-

I have a few more nice whiskies to pour as the night goes on. Sorry to kill the mood.

Ardbeg 17yo bottled around 2001 or so.

Port Ellen 8th Release 1978 29yo.
