Back to a topic more important than weather: tonight is a Backwoods Bastard night. Tonight is therefore a good night.

I'm jealous. One of my favorite beers, and unavailable in Arizona.

So you've at least got that going for you, which is nice.

As it happens, I have one more bottle of this year's batch. I could probably procure more, and I certainly have various other beers that you might find agreeable and/or otherwise unattainable. Likewise, there are plenty of great west coast brews I've never tried. Perhaps a trade could be arranged? Think about it and holler if you're interested.

That goes for anyone interested in Michigan brews unavailable elsewhere.

Just got back from Total Wine and I picked up a growler of Stone Enjoy By 2/14/14, and a mixed six pack of (SanTan Sex Panther (awesome name), Firestone Velvet Merlin, Green Flash Palate Wrecker, Alaskan Hopothermia, Odell Runoff Red IPA, and Mission Carrack).

Also have any of the whisky drinkers here had the Berrys' Caperdonich 17yo? Thinking of picking it up in the next week or so. Thanks

Sam Adams Cold Snap in my Legends of Notre Dame pint glass. It's a cloudy white ale with orange peel. Quite good but it feels like more of a summer ale than an "end of winter" deal.

Thinking of grabbing a mixed six pack (or maybe 8) of Colorado beers for the Super Bowl. Here is the list under consideration currently.

Great Divide Titan IPA
Great Divide Hercules DIPA
Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout
Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale
Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA
Oskar Blues G'Knight Red IPA
Oskar Blues Ten Fidy Imperial Stout
Oskar Blues Old Chub Scottish Ale
Odell IPA
Odell Myrcenary DIPA
Odell Mountain Standard Black IPA
Odell Run Off Red IPA
Odell Easy Street American Pale Wheat Ale
Odell Cutthroat Porter
Left Hand Milk Stout
Ska Modus Hoperandi IPA
Ska Euphoria Pale Ale

I was thinking of grabbing 2 Oskar Blues, 2 Odell's, and 1 each of Ska and Great Divide (if I go with six, if 8 well it then becomes the wild wild west). None of these beers would be new for me (well besides Odell Run Off Red IPA which I already have in my fridge). Also I would probably only want to go with 1 porter/stout overall. Recommend away.

I like PBR well enough too in fairness... and yeah, it's a poor class of beer, though I really like Dos Equis Green... one of my top beers period honestly. You can definately call that my 'go to' beer.

I tend not to like Beer Advocate though, it seems to me the people that use it just rate the hard to find stuff high and the common market stuff low... it's like a beer site for hipsters...

I agree that it is a beer site for hipsters but what is your definition of common market stuff. I view beers that I can buy at my grocery store (a Safeway, or Vons for you in California) as common market and some of them get very high ratings on BA.

Stone IPA 94
Lagunitas Sumpin Sumpin 94
Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale 88
Odell IPA 95
Lagunitas IPA 87
Deschutes Black Butte Porter 94
Sierra Nevada Torpedo 93
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale 91

My former Vons in CA had bombers of
Stone Arrogant Bastard 93
Stone Ruination 96
and the Lagunitas seasonals

That is without going into the local beer selection that most carry. While I do think that hard to find beers get a bump in ratings, there are many readily available beers that get great reviews.

Was in a Hefeweizen mood and got a sixer of Sierra Nevada Killerweis. Really good considering price and availability.

Founders Imperial Stout. Not as good as FBS but still a really good beer.

I drink a lot of Founders, Centennial being my go to beer. They do an outstanding job. We got KBS up here for the first time (that I know of) last year and this year I think I'm gonna make the four hour drive and get a case on the release day.

Great Divide Titan IPA - Don't much care for it.
Great Divide Hercules DIPA - Also fine.
Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout - I'd probably go this route from Great Divide. Nice.
Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale - Classic, stand-by pale. Great stuff.
Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA - I love this beer. Really nice IPA version of Dales.
Oskar Blues G'Knight Red IPA - Don't know it.
Oskar Blues Ten Fidy Imperial Stout - Really good...obviously very powerful. Do you want to remember the game?
Oskar Blues Old Chub Scottish Ale - Been a long time and can't remember what I thought.
Odell IPA - One of the really great, citrus finishing IPAs.
Odell Myrcenary DIPA - I also really like this one. Not too big for a double.
Odell Mountain Standard Black IPA - I'm sort of over black IPAs.
Odell Run Off Red IPA - Don't know it. Very interested.
Odell Easy Street American Pale Wheat Ale - Nice. Not great, but nice. Don't much like anything wheat.
Odell Cutthroat Porter - Very solid porter. I'd go with it.
Left Hand Milk Stout - Excellent.
Ska Modus Hoperandi IPA - One of my favorites.
Ska Euphoria Pale Ale - Another great one.

I'd go with this...

Yeti, Dales, Deviant Dales, Odell IPA, Cutthroat, Left Hand, Modus, and maybe Old Chub for variety.

I had a couple of these this afternoon. It's a really tasty stout.
