Tried something new, Crowne and Root Beer. Not too bad

Hmmmm ... drop in a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you have a Kick- Arse Root Beer Float. A refreshing summer libation.

A&W, Dad's, Hire's, Barq's, whatever??? Haagen Dazs, Breyer's, Ben & Jerry's, Sealtest????

Boulevard has a nice, basic IPA in the Single Wide. The pale is pretty malty and not as hoppy as I like, but is decent. Double Wide is a blast of goodness. Sounds like you're only getting the Smokestack Series, which is an elevated series. Good stuff.

The other two beers from Boulevard that we get here are Dark Truth Stout and Tank 7. I am tempted by the Tank 7. Have you had it and if so what did yo think of it?

I don't much care for Belgian beers, so I'm not a good one to ask. It is hoppy and powerful.

Tonight:
LumberYard Brewing Company IPA - Flagstaff, AZ

That is also one of the world's best summer beers.

Indeed. Quaffed mine after 9 hours spent outside in 118 degree heat assembling a playset for my children. Most refreshing thing I've ever tasted before.

And per your suggestion, tonight it's:

Glad I didn't give up on sours after the crappy Petrus. In retrospect, I think what turned me off was its saltiness; this Gueze has none of that (though lots of sour). Good stuff.

For local brew Tuesday, Strand Brewing 24th St. Pale Ale. Some nice maltiness with a little fruit and a bitter herbal finish. A pretty good beer but nothing special.

Makers and sprite. Good luck drink apparently. My redlegs get a no hitter tonight. Last time I got deep with this combo was the fall of Troy this past season.

Next up for Local Brew Tuesday.

Lost Abbey Deliverance 12.5% abv

it is a mix of Lost Abbey Angel's Share (American Strong Ale) aged in brandy barrels and Lost Abbey Serpent's Stout aged in bourbon barrels.

Huge notes of maple, vanilla, figs, dates, raisins, booze, caramel, milk chocolate, and big time bourbon notes. Almost zero carbonation, and in some ways more like a liqueur than a beer. Really well done and super enjoyable.

One of our beer reps is trying to get Bud Black Crown in our bar. I told him I'd give it a fair tasting. I'll say it wasn't bad, in the sense that I wanted to spit it out and curse the heavens for this beer's existence. But it sure wasn't good. Big companies just don't get it when they try to put out a "premium" product like that. It can't just be a slightly less bad version of their current stuff. They really need to pull out the stops (and probably not use the name "Bud" on the bottle) if they are going to target the caliber of beer drinkers they want (i.e. the posters in this thread.

I really feel like I should go into liquor marketing. It seems like so many companies out there have no clue when it comes to rolling out interesting niche products.

36 Cheap American Beers, Ranked:

36. Keystone. This is the worst beer currently sold on American soil. It sits behind chilled glass in a convenience-store fridge like a dumb rebuke to the explosion of American beer variety all around it. In 1978 there were 89 breweries in the U.S.; today there are more than 2,400, and most of the new ones are better than most of the old ones. In 2013 craft beer is no longer the exclusive domain of West Coast weirdos and psychotic woodsmen. These fine days you can score Samuel Adams or Sierra Nevada at the least ambitious of convenience stores and Dogfish Head 90 Minute on the least reliable of trains. And then there is Keystone, which first appeared to the world in 1989, in Chico, Calif., home of the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Keystone separates itself from the rest of the crap pack by augmenting the typical stale/sour flavor profile with notes of brown bananas and green armpits. Keystone is worse than Heineken and murder.

35. Bud Light Lime. When Anheuser-Busch spit this one out a few years ago it seemed like a pretty good idea, as terrible ideas go. The world never needs more flavors of Bud Light, but the popularity of the otherwise worthless Corona proves that folks love to limen up their beers. Barroom fruit is repulsive—ever think about where your lime's been before it lands in your drink? Nowhere nice—so if Bud Light Lime were any good at all, it would be a little leap forward. But alas, the alleged lime flavoring in no way resembles people food. Bud Light Lime tastes like green Froot Loops soaked in thigh sweat.

34. Genesee Cream Ale. Man, do I want to like Genny Cream. Man, do I not like Genny Cream. I'm a sucker for old-timey regional budget brew, but this is awfully rough stuff. It doesn't even have the dignity to go down swinging with a signature blend of gross flavors, a la Keystone. Genny Cream is just the archetypal stale cardboard crud-juice.

33. Rolling Rock. Smells like three fat guys in a two-man tent.
...

Good for some laughs.

Good list except Yuengling is way too low. It's not a good craft beer or anything, but it's a hell of a lot better than Natty Light.

There's a time and a place for most beers. High Life works for those days when you'll be drinking outside for a long time and are focused on other things. No need to waste a good IPA on those days.

There is not a time and place for Natty Light.

Good grief, how in the world could they have Natty Ice and Natty Light ahead of High Life??? I do agree with their assessment of the banquet of beers though. I always get the tall boys at Kroger for my yard work beer.

Who even knew Keystone was a beer? Light of course, it was the only beer at every ND party, but regular Keystone?

Holy crap...haven't seen that one yet...

Seasonal or year round? Tapped in Phx or just bottles?

Review?

It is 22oz bottles, and I believe it is a regular release (year around). As for notes

N: Mostly malt, some rye, grapefruit, and a little pine. Something a little dark and bitter (maybe bitter cocoa).
P: Malt, grapefruit, some light rye, and a hint of other citrus (orange).
F: Malt and grapefruit, some dust, rye, bitter cocoa and a hint of pine. Some orange as well.

Nice carbonation and good mouth feel. Overall, I really enjoy it. BA gives it 95 points, and that might be a little generous but it is probably the best rye/black IPA I have tasted though.

So basically if you see it, buy it as it is worth tasting if you enjoy that style of beer.
