pkt just enjoyed his 7th distinct $70 bottle of Bourbon tonight, for those of you keeping score at home. All among the same two labels. Get on his level.

On a more serious note, what are your thoughts on those two? I'm been tempted to pick one up many times, but the price tag keeps me away.

I say buy. I have enjoyed every bottle that I have bought. If you like wheat bourbons go with WLW if you like want something high abv and with more rye go with GTS. They are both great (though the best of the bunch is the GTS 2007 72.4%, damn it is good).
I will say that if you are not use to the high abv it will numb your tongue at first, just take little sips till you get accustomed to it.
The 2007 GTS and the Parkers Heritage Golden Anniversary Malt Advocate Whisky Awards “American Whiskey of the Year”: Parker’s Heritage Collection “Golden Anniversary” Bourbon | Whisky Advocate Blog are probably the best bourbons I have had the pleasure of tasting. If you see the GTS or the WLW buy them. They are worth it.

Ardbeg Corry 57.1%
Laphroaig 10 CS batch 003 55.3%

Too bad these taste like water after the GTS.

Celebrating the completion of my 10th year teaching with a Two Hearted. Can't wait to lounge by the pool for a few days.

This thread is great for telling you how old some posters are. But seriously, what people drink is pretty indicative of age IMO.

Lots of beer with my brother-in-law. He just lost his custody battle with his crazy ex who was just arrested last month for assaulting him. She just turned 21 and has been arrested for family abuse and drunk in public (as a 19 year old) and the stupid c*nt of a judge decided that their 6 month old was best off with his mother. The court system is a ****ing joke.

Whiskey, have you given Sleepy Dog a try yet? They just opened a bistro in Gilbert a few months ago.

My reasoning is us younger folk generally drink so really bad (cheap) stuff. Of course I don't think its bad cause I've never had anything good. When you're young drinking is like a novel item and all about quantity, and it becomes more of hobby as you get older (just look at this thread!). Thus the change from cheap stuff to better stuff. It'd still be hard to guess age, but definitely not uncorrelated IMO. Anyway to much analysis for a thread like this.

It doesn't change with age, at least in my case. Other than a celebratory Two Hearted sixer here and there (still hardly "good stuff"), I drink Miller Lite and Jim Beam exclusively. It isn't a money or redneck thing, I just genuinely don't care for much else. It's engrained at this point.

Tonight a taste off between Widmer Drifter Pale Ale and it's replacement beer Widmer Alchemy Ale.

Drifter Pale Ale
N: Orange and grapefruit. Some nice caramel malt and a little cracker.
P: Starts with a hint of orange but it is quickly overtaken by the cracker and caramel maltiness.
F: Is short with some cracker and citrus.

Well carbonated and easy drinking. By no means a great beer but a solid B-.

Now it is time for Widmer Alchemy Pale Ale.

N: First smell was cat **** but that blows off quickly. Dank earthy hops, something slightly dirty and malt. Maybe a little bread. Not a promising start.
P: Crackers, malt, hint of yeast and pretzel bread. Some dank earthy hops and a dirtiness that is not tasty. No fruit at all and the only sweetness is the malt.
F: Short on malt, cracker and the slight dirtiness. After about 15 seconds or so the bitterness comes through.

Carbonation is about right and it is medium bodied. Slightly sticky.

I am not a fan. The dirtiness is what really gets me. Almost like eating a cracker with a little dirt on top of it.
