Bought a six-pack of New Belgium Voodoo Imperial IPA tonight. Very good, but couldn't tell any difference between it and their Rampant IIPA.

They are pretty much the same beer, the hops may have changed a little but if so not much (I know that both Voodoo and Rampant use Mosaic and Calypso but the supporting hops may have changed).

Thanks, pkt. I didn't have a Rampant on hand to compare it to directly, but it tasted almost the same. No doubt you're right and the differences will be very subtle. Good beer, just not anything new.

Thoughts?

I scored a bottle a bit ago and have had a couple pours so far. As I understand it the single barrel can be a bit inconsistent in profiles between different bottles but overall it seems to be similar to the small batch but it is much more fruity and floral. I particular taste apples and roses up front but after that it is very similar to the small batch. I have had several bottles of the small batch and it is very consistent in flavor profile.

I just love the EHT family of bourbons though. Its quickly becoming one of my next favorites under Blantons. I just have them neat. They are far to strong for cocktails I have discovered.

Sounds like that'd be right up my alley.

Founders all day IPA... really like it.

Also went rogue and picked up a sizer of Mikes Watermelon Lemonade... just sounded super refreshing in the moment... we shall see.

Tried Hudson Four Grain Bourbon Whiskey last night. They only sell their stuff in 375 ml bottles, and they typically charge outrageous prices for such a small volume, so I had big expectations for it.

It's pretty good, but no where close to justifying the price. This is the first whiskey I've ever seen that includes both rye and wheat in the mash bill, and I can see why now-- the former completely drowns out the latter, but I guess it's a decent gimmick for selling "craft" liquor. Lots of heat and some well-balanced spice from the rye, but I wouldn't recommend this unless someone else is paying.

Made a sazerac using Buffalo Trace, Pernod, lemon zest, 2 dashes angostura and 8 dashes Peychauds. Very good.

30 breweries around town are doing a fundraiser for therapy dogs. You spend $20 on a pint glass and are given a "Pawsport" (Get it? Cause it's for dogs). The breweries give out 1 free beer; that's 30 beers for $20. Nice

I basically made my money back yesterday with 5 breweries, since my friends were kind enough to drive me around.

Adelbert's: Tripel B - I've had it before, good tripel, but I don't find it spectacular.
Hops & Grains: Haze County IPA - great nose, really solid IPA.
Friends & Allies: Dark Ritual - dark Belgian, was fine, nothing eye opening, some coffee in the taste. My friend got the House of Orange, a tart fruited beer or something like that. Seriously amazing stuff.
Lazarus Brewing: Via Dolorosa - another dark belgian beer. I thought it was good, pretty rich. Really great place though and all of the beers were decent.
Zilker Brewing: Murderino - My palate was fading by this point, but I thought it was the weakest of all that I had tried. Dark IPA, nothing too special about it. My friend got a blackberry kettle sour though, and it was great. Very very sour, so much that I was shocked that they gave out 16 oz pours. He couldn't finish it, so I switched with him and was happy.

5 breweries down, 25 left to go.

Dang. There goes another good guy.

It's hard to say no to that money. One of my friends will be opening a brewery in Philly somewhat soon and is as anti-Big Beer of a guy that I know. But he told me that he'd be crazy not to take a huge payout and set his family up for life and maybe even generations. Plus, his plan would be to open another brewery...I'm not sure if non-competes are part of the negotiations though.

Mother Earth Imagination- its a golden stout. problem is you can only find it on tap
Mother Earth Sin Tax- a peanut butter stout
But talked with the Mother Earth Brew Master and he advised me to try and mix the Sin Tax with their California Creamin. Good lord that was good

Had the same thing at their tasting room in Vista last month. My girl's daughter works at Belching Beaver and she knew the secret mix. The insiders have their own special menu at each place just like In N Out.

Currently having some Ballast Point stuff. Watermelon Dorrado DIPA which I don't care for though I'm thankful for the 10% kick starter. This is mama's favorite. Can't find it in AZ so she sends herself some from Orange Co when she's over there for work. I just finished a Pineapple Sculpin which I like for a can and Mango Even Keel Session - which for a low ABV is I feel a great pool/beach beer.

98 today, some ICE Cold beer and some vitamin D. I didn't even have to use my AK.
