What about a private subreddit?

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I don't know, I prefer the vBulletin format for college football talk personally. Lets you break down sections for recruiting, off topic, gameday, etc better. That's me though.

Conspiracy theory time...

People at NDN came together to buy this site. They then decided to slow play our demise by not attending to simple maintenance and such.

This is how the last Irish board I was on died (Not the NDN part, but the lack of maintenance/updates). It was something like NotreDameFans.com or something. Shit starting breaking, then the site got straight up hacked and there was no one around that could recover it. Granted it was a smaller site, but it kind of sucked that everything just went straight down and no one had a way to contact the community. That was back in 2011 and I came over here after.

I am logged on to IE under BGIF twice currently. One the first login the icons under my name are fine. On the second login they are long boxes with question marks in the center. I have logged on a couple of times tonight/early morning and find the icons fine sometimes and the boxes with question marks other times. No consistency.

I am currently using an IPad and Safari. On my desktop I use Windows 7 and Chrome. The past few days the site has had problems on both devices.

I'm now told that the site never had a security certificate (i.e., the site was never a https site). It looks like a few browsers recently started flagging all non-https sites but this site isn't any less secure than it had been.

I'll reach out to the owners again re: the busted icons.

Is anyone still experiencing CPU issues after clearing your cache?

May not have been your intent but the bold phrase reads like White House press secretary spin.

Are you saying IE is not any less secure because it was never secure or are you saying it is secure now? Which one?

Then it was never secure. That's like driving without insurance hoping you never have a wreck. Security certs are cheap and pretty much standard anymore. Please encourage the owner(s) to purchase and install asap. It won't be long before browsers prevent users from going to an unsecure sites and then IE will be a ghost town.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm going to ask the owners to take a look at this thread in particular so that we can hopefully clear up any outstanding issues -- including the HTTPS piece.

Thanks Pham.

I'd be really bummed if issues start driving away the already-dwindling number of regular users.

No one I know in person cares as much about ND as I do, so coming here to get my daily fix of conversation is a crucial part of my routine lol

I agree. We've seen our numbers go down a lot over the last couple years, and it doesn't seem like we are filling in their void. Add to that, we are very lucky to have a site where we are not part of the NDN nonsense...

While we're at it, can we talk about the possibility of migrating to Invision or at least updating to the latest vBulletin software? vBulletin has been running Version 5 for several years now (I think they're on version 5.4.3 right now) and we're still running Version 3.7.4 (Which was released 10 years ago next week!).

Running the latest version would be more secure and give us additional functionality, but honestly Invision seems to be trending upward in recent years while vBulletin seems to be dying. If you spend some time over on www.surlyhorns.com you can see why Invision is popular. It has a lot of nice features like automatic embedding of images, notifications when someone does an "@username" in a thread reply, a nice streamlined presentation and the ability to show additional replies in a thread on the fly without having to completely reload the page (A little notification pops up when additional replies have come in, which would be great for game threads on game days).

Invision also has a free migration option: https://invisioncommunity.com/services/migrate

Interesting, now I'm getting that issue where you can't go to the last page in a thread. Tried to go to the last page in the Navy thread, but it kicks you back to the main board page. Same thing here, when I came to try and post a reply to the last page here, kicked me back to the main page when I click "Last Page." I had to click the first page of the thread and just click "Reply" to get to here.

Quick update:

1. Icons should be fixed now. Looks like this was connected to removing the offending script while trying to fix the CPU issue.

2. On the CPU issue, a cache refresh (i.e. Ctrl + F5) should resolve any lingering problems but please let us know if you're still having issues.

3. The owners are discussing installing the HTTPS connection; I'll get back to you guys as soon as I hear from them.

4. I'll bring up the vBulletin update/Invision suggestion.

Just had the same thing happen to me too when I tried to view threads through my User CP.

Yep, same here. I use the User CP page to navigate the threads I'm "Subscribed" to for easy nav, but it keeps kicking me out when I click them.

I just cleared my history, cookies, etc. and it worked. So that might help for now.

I can't get into a thread now. If I click on a an actual thread, it takes me to the Forums page.

If you're having these issues, could you please let us know if you've cleared your cookies and cache and/or tried a cache refresh (i.e., Ctrl + F5). That way I can let them know that this isn't just a refresh issue.

That's what I did, and it's working since.

Yes, I have cleared and am still having problems.

Gift icons are still text, "next thread" and "previous thread" titles are text at bottom instead of thread name, etc.

Might be a reoccurring thing. I had to clear my cache yesterday and the icons broke again sometime today, including the new issues with not being able to go to the "Last Page" in a thread. I just cleared All Browsing data again just now and it looks like the "Last Page" links are working again.

And a few minutes later the icons are all broken again.

This is what is happening for me. It seems like it is fine, then will revert back to being jacked up.

Interesting...when I came back to this page just now to read your reply the icons were working again. I made a small edit to my previous post, and now the icons in JUST my post had broken icons. All the other posts in the thread looked fine though. Weird.

Here's what I'm talking about. After I Cleared All Browsing Data I came back to this thread to read a reply. All icons looked normal. I made a small edit to my last post, and just the icons from my post became busted:

[EDIT] This current post is showing busted icons too, but the other posts above appear fine aside from the previous one I edited..
