I believe it was Flutie on the post game show that pointed that last last week BVG had about 1 working day to work with the replacements after Collinsworth went down. This week he had a full week and the communication gaffs were gone.

I didn't beat the over in this game because I was concerned about UM scoring a 3 TDs on a better team that their FCS cupcake. I didn't remotely think shutout.

Three starters missing, freshmen and sophomores everywhere... and a shutout?

It really was incredible.

Surely, we won't perform as well moving forward, because teams will get film on us. And other teams will have better OLs that Day/Jones don't completely abuse.

But man... they got a lot of new guys ready to play, effectively brought creative pressures, and challenged just about every throw while also giving up zero big plays.

And the defense is FUN to watch.

Didn't notice one, an awesome showing indeed.

I'm waiting for a great gif of that.

There's one in another thread somewhere. Saw it, just can't remember which one.

Yup. Hard for even the hardest of die-hard Diaco fans not to say, "Bob who?"

I love his enthusiasm the most and the way he let's the kids know when they make a great play! Would be a great guy to play for!

Great job by BVG - considering the circumstances with players out, and it being a big game and all; not to mention all of the 'young' players....impressive.

I thought the defenes looked more...sophisticated

Diaco had some good defense for us at times, but he sure as hell struggled stopping Michigan. BVG and the defense were awesome!

what impressed me the most was his ability to quickly adjust to whatever ann arbor was doing offensively....something Diaco greatly struggled with that.

ps this guy could take our recruiting to an SEC level if we continue to win.

Diaco was a terribad DC. ND just always had better athletes and recruiting (outside of Alabama) which made up for it. The defense was vanilla and passive. Two terrible traits for a defense to have.

I don't understand this....like at all. The philosophy of Diaco is the same philosophy of many successful defenses and teams. Bend but don't break works. It took us to a nattt with a mostly elementary offense to support us.How do you explain going from 2012 to 2013? Was it all just Manti and KLM? Did the 2013 offense inefficiencies have any thing to do with it. Diacos philosophy averaged under 26 points per game conceded over his time at ND. That is pretty fantastic. Some of his calls were enigmatic and the telegraphed blitzes were elementary and in-game adjustments could have been much better but he was not terrible.

Something tells me he's going to blow Navy up.

wish i could agree with you, but that offense is soooo stupid and they are sooo good at running it that i'm just hoping we can win and stay healthy doing it....i honestly don't care if we give up 500 yards if those 2 factors are a part of the result

We had the #1/#2 defense in the NCAA... while going 12-0 against a daunting schedule... and playing a converted true frosh RB at corner, a converted WR at the other corner, and a converted soccer player/WR redshirt frosh at safety.

But yeah, Diaco sucked..........

Diaco was FLAWED and screwed up a lot of stuff. We've gone over this ad nauseam. But he did a pretty solid job here for awhile.

Yeah this is pretty silly, he won the Broyles award for having the #1 defense in 12'. He gone now, who cares. Just be excited for the BVG era people.

I agree it was just his unwillingness to come out of his base defense and make in game adjustments that we're frustrating to me. Other than that his style of defense as opposed to BVG just wasn't as fun to watch which I think is what most people (myself included) see.

Diaco is a fine coach but it was time for a change. BVG has them playing with attitude and emotion, key ingredients of a good defense, that was lacking last year.

Time will tell, but the kids looked happier and played with attitude. Perhaps last night was a fluke, but you have to like what you see thus far.

They played with a level of confidence and cohesion not seen since the 2012 defense. That's what stood out to me.

They are athletic, but more importantly they are confident in their steps/reads/actions. It's so god damn refreshing to see a defense attack.
