We should have won that game, just couldn't corral Williams. Fuck ol' fingernails.
We probably would have had those Zebras flagged more than one egregious holding call against the Trojans. We should have won that game, just couldn't corral Williams. Fuck ol' fingernails.
you forgot the part about screaming for Rees to be fired for not scoring 50 and 600+ yardsGood Lord 596 yards total offense and you lose
ND fans who be screaming for an entirely new defensive staff
Just because they're not officially sanctioning NIL, doesn't mean they're not also happy to look the other way. Can't convince me they got all those transfers by convincing them to earn their own NIL...Stu Mandel:
USC is one of the last remaining major athletic departments that is anti-NIL collectives in recruiting. For all the rumors about USC “buying” Jordan Addison, Trojans players are still very much having to get deals on their own. Which may explain why such a hot coach at such a big-brand program signed only the No. 15 class this year. “Come to Hollywood, we’ll make you a star” is not as compelling to most kids as “Come to State U, our donors will cut you a check tomorrow.”
Mandel's Mailbag: Where does TCU rank in the most unlikely champions of college football history?
This is surprising...
This also just isn't true. At best, it's propaganda straight from USC. Addison got promised a million dollars and then there were issues this year when he just flat out wasn't getting the money he was promised.Stu Mandel:

The way I know it isn't true is that CJ Williams met with Rick Caruso last year and allegedly secured some money for his family as part of this flip to USC. Was that money paid? Who knows. But they were one of the top schools in the "rumor mill" of there being issues between promise & payment.
The reason their recruiting is ranked lower than it could be isn't NIL reluctance it's that they're intentionally playing the transfer portal hard. It's a strategic choice by Riley, nothing more nothing less. It's how he's operated with QBs going all the way back to Mayfield... only guys who have failed for him are ones he recruited out of HS.
Yep, if you look at his QB success it's as follows:Caleb Williams is a Riley product though, right?
Seems like a risky strategy in terms of longer term roster management particularly as it relates to say the offensive line and defensive position groups.Yep, if you look at his QB success it's as follows:
1. Mayfield - transfer
2. Murray - transfer
3. Jalen Hurts - transfer
4. Caleb Williams - recruited to Oklahoma by Riley, transfer to USC
He has had amazing success with transfers, and intentionally wants to bring in 10-15 transfers a year. Caleb Williams is his only HS recruit that panned out, but he bats 100% with transfer QBs. He is trying to apply the same model that he did with QBs to all positions at USC. From USC insiders they have been very clear since last year that people should expect small classes of ~15 guys and then a heavy number of developed transfers each year.

The Kliff Kingsbury plan.Maybe Riley is looking for immediate success as a springboard to the NFL?
IMO Riley's strategy is also very risky. A down year could quickly make the school an unattractive transfer destination pretty quickly, which could compound on itself after that.
This. I'll be satisfied as long as they continue treating defense as a second rate priority and never tackle in practice. Won't win anything of significance like that.USC will never have an issue attracting skill talent. Ever.
They’re the same glorified 7v7 team they’ve been since Carroll left, just with a better QB and play caller this year. I’ll worry about USC when they start recruiting and developing top linemen. Until then, it’s all smoke and mirrors.This. I'll be satisfied as long as they continue treating defense as a second rate priority and never tackle in practice. Right. I can’t imagine rooting for a team of paid mercs in CFB, let alone putting my body on the line for one every day in practice.I curious to see how all the transfer portal activity affects clubhouse moral. Could quickly erode cohesion and identity
It’s pretty weird/crazy honestly. I mean that’s the model JUCOs use. They’re the same glorified 7v7 team they’ve been since Carroll left, just with a better QB and play caller this year. I’ll worry about USC when they start recruiting and developing top linemen. Until then, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Exactly. One would think it'd be very easy for ND and every other school to have success negatively recruiting against USC. "You're never going to see the field because they're going to bring in several transfers every single year."
