This also just isn't true. At best, it's propaganda straight from USC. Addison got promised a million dollars and then there were issues this year when he just flat out wasn't getting the money he was promised.

The way I know it isn't true is that CJ Williams met with Rick Caruso last year and allegedly secured some money for his family as part of this flip to USC. Was that money paid? Who knows. But they were one of the top schools in the "rumor mill" of there being issues between promise & payment.

The reason their recruiting is ranked lower than it could be isn't NIL reluctance it's that they're intentionally playing the transfer portal hard. It's a strategic choice by Riley, nothing more nothing less. It's how he's operated with QBs going all the way back to Mayfield... only guys who have failed for him are ones he recruited out of HS.

4. Caleb Williams - recruited to Oklahoma by Riley, transfer to USC

He has had amazing success with transfers, and intentionally wants to bring in 10-15 transfers a year. Caleb Williams is his only HS recruit that panned out, but he bats 100% with transfer QBs. He is trying to apply the same model that he did with QBs to all positions at USC. From USC insiders they have been very clear since last year that people should expect small classes of ~15 guys and then a heavy number of developed transfers each year.

Seems like a risky strategy in terms of longer term roster management particularly as it relates to say the offensive line and defensive position groups.

Also seems to open the door to all kinds of negative recruiting.

Interesting strategy. A strategy, proven by Lincoln himself, that doesn’t work. At least it’s a hill he’s willing to die on.

IMO Riley's strategy is also very risky. A down year could quickly make the school an unattractive transfer destination pretty quickly, which could compound on itself after that.

They’re the same glorified 7v7 team they’ve been since Carroll left, just with a better QB and play caller this year. I’ll worry about USC when they start recruiting and developing top linemen. Until then, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

It’s pretty weird/crazy honestly. I mean that’s the model JUCOs use.

After watching Last Chance U I’m not sure why anyone would want to deal with that level of chaos for a sustained amount of time. The wheels always seem to come off sooner or later in those situations.
