Don't worry about Peterson. His next move will be into Sneaky Pete's office at CenturyLink Field, if anywhere. He didn't withdraw from consideration for the SC job because of Haden, he withdrew because of the total culture.... plus they had figured out if he didn't take it, they were gonna hire Sarkisian over Franklin and he would walk into Washington and $3.5M per. Now he's inked through '20something with fat buyouts.

I'd worry about a hot NFL type who can get it done like Pete did or a young guy who still thinks LA would be fun to live in like say maybe Jason Fuente was as the hot guy at Memphis last year. SC and UCLA are not for the traditional big program, established coaches. They want the equal money and country club lifestyle provided by traditional powers, not the urban chaos of LA.

*** And btw... how about Dave Kingman on the outside? Looked like he was running back to the dugout for a pack of Newports. His running style could best be described as a coordinated seizure.

I hope you have it right...I worry about the unknown for sure...but Petersen is a known that worries me...hope he does go NFL.

...and yea Kingman made me laugh...yes he is probably a more naturally gifted athlete than I, but damn...no one ever said..."ok Dave put the bat down for a minute...lets talk about your running style..."

But then maybe they figured it didn't look so bad frozen on a baseball card or in a homerun trot????

This is WAY cool.

I saw a special here on LA TV Saturday morning about it. It gave me a weird feeling... like if John Calipari donated a million dollars to a medical researcher who then found a cure for cancer. Some things I'm not supposed to like under any circumstances.

But... bravo to SC for allowing Jake Olson the opportunity to showcase his abilities. Skills he worked very hard to craft, he EARNED this opportunity. It's a great story, period. The only thing that would've been better is if it would've happened in South Bend because Jake Olson sounds like an ND Football player! Once again, Good job Trojans!

Now... switching back to SC hate mode in 3...2...1...

Austin Thomas, LSU’s former Director of Player Personnel, is now headed back to Baton Rouge, multiple sources at LSU confirmed with the Geaux247 staff.

Thomas left LSU for a job at Southern Cal on Feb. 18, where he was named USC’s Assistant Athletic Director, head of Player Personnel and NFL research. Less than four months later, the Tigers have convinced him to return to his post in the Bayou State.

Thomas will once again be in charge of LSU’s recruiting efforts under Miles and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, with an emphasis put on player evaluation, managing the recruiting database and helping organize recruiting events on LSU’s campus.

In his three years with LSU from 2013-16, the Tigers finished with top five recruiting classes during each cycle. LSU also had a top five class just prior to Thomas’ arrival in 2013, marking the first time in the Miles era that LSU had put together back-to-back top five classes, which the Tigers have now done four years in a row. Thomas had been at USC for the four years prior, working for the Trojans from 2010-13.

Thomas was named FootballScoop.com’s 2015 Player Personnel Director of the Year following a lengthy stint with LSU at No. 1 in the 247Sports team rankings. In an interview with FootballScoop.com in January, Orgeron called Thomas one of the brightest minds in the recruiting game.

“Austin is a great evaluator,” Orgeron said. “He spends countless hours devouring film and is highly organized when gathering information on a player. From talent identification and evaluation, to connecting with the players and managing all of their visits, Austin runs all of it."

It’s another home run hire for Miles and the LSU brass, with new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and two new position coaches on offense in Jabbar Juluke and Dameyune Craig also brought on this offseason.

Stay tuned to Geaux247 for more on this developing story.

ESPN's power index gave SC a 35% of beating Bama. It also gave SC a 75% chance of beating ND. I'd say both are 25% too high.

I think that's pretty fair, although I might put USC at a 55-60% given they're at home and we may not be able to stretch the field quite like before with Fuller gone. Still, Helton is no Cheaty Petey, and they'll be breaking in a new QB (Although he'll have pretty much all season to acclimate to the position). Should at least be an interesting game. I think USC will be in for a culture shock against 'Bama though. Trojans are too much of a finesse team, and the only smash mouth team they really face in the PAC is Stanford who they've struggled with.

Crossed my mind the other day that with the Rams moving back to LA, USC isn't the premier football team in town anymore. Interested to see how this effects their fan support going forwards.

You might want to reread that one. Premier and Rams don't exactly go together.

The Rams have ALL the buzz plus UCLA has taken market share. SC is not what it once was. Happy days are here again.

Is a nice thought, but I assume the Rams will tank and the good feelings will go away. Not sure about UCLA, but I imagine USC will rise again. I do enjoy their down years though.

Won't USC have a QB starting with next to no experience? Bama's defense will eat that up

Not unless they revert to their cheating ways---which may happen given that Lynn Swann is now in charge of that cesspool. If you look at southern cal's history, whenever they've had a successful run, they subsequently have ended up on probation. They're never successful unless they cheat. That's who they are.

Pro football in LA is doomed to fail. The hype will last about a year unless the Rams can pull a rabbit out of their hat and make a serious run at the SB. USC will always be top dog in LA IMO.

I think Bama's speed is probably on par with USC's, so their D should dominate the Trojans. I also agree that Bama's running game should dominate. I won't be surprised if Bama wins by 14-20 points.

Yeah, I assume Swann will find a way to win, one way or another. USC will always have the talent to fall back on, they just need a competent and steady coach. Will they achieve Cheaty Petey level success? Probably not, but there's no reason they won't return to regular dominance in the PAC-12 once they can stabilize with a decent coach.

I question Lynn Swann's ability to lead, the chance of buffoonery is high. We'll see.

surprisingly, more truth this^ statement than one might expect.

I really couldn't care too much here, both are horrible, but from a general standpoint it might be better that SC beats Bama... assuming we beat SC later on that would be the best scenario... no?

Yes, but my hatred for USC makes me unreasonable at times.

Bama

USC

I see little difference other than we play one more regularly, they can both go straight to the depths as far as I'm concerned... Both are easily on my, 'top five most hated teams in all of sports' list.
