Until it comes out that Robertson is blowing smoke up our collective ass and takes bag man money to stay south. And then we come into the year with 75-80 players on scholarship.

Starting to hope that we get some backup offers out.

Per Wiltfong, we are continuing to evaluate WR's and DT's.

What a clusterfuck that would be. For an entire year we decide that we'll only take a DT if his name is Rashan Gary but less than 1 month from NSD we are now starting to evaluate more DT's. Can't say that gives me a good feeling.

Like that's ever happened before.

This isn't necessarily due to depth issues, so I'm not terribly upset about this. I still believe we need another LB and Robertson would give me faith that we'll continue having a superstar on the outside (not discounting our current players, but I need to see it this fall).

Because they have a good feeling Hayes is transfering? Just spit balling.

If true, I guess my thought would be that this shouldn't surprise anyone, including someone on the coaching staff. So, why not get conditional offers out over the season. Get kids on campus so that when this time comes to push, we already have an idea of where we stand and with who. To me this just sounds like poor scholarship management, again, down the recruiting home stretch.

It kind of reminds me of ILB recruiting two and three years ago.

You're recruiting a position at which two players are on the field a majority of the time. You need to take at least one guy for that position in each class, even if you've loaded up the year before.

We loaded up on DT's last year (signed 4), and Tillery playing while the others redshirted was good to stagger their eligibility... but if you don't sign any DT's in this class, you're creating a risk for later down the line based on potential attrition.

You can get by with skipping certain positions in a class if you loaded up the year before. DT is not one of those positions if you're running a 4-3.

I'm not worried about the numbers but I'm also not privy to a lot of information that the coaches are. My point is not whether recruiting a DT this cycle is a good or bad idea. Its just that, if they even thought this was a possibility, we should have taken necessary action a lot earlier.

We're still looking good for Jones, right? I think I'd be happy with the above if we got Jones, too. I mean, I'd be happy about getting Robertson, obviously, but I think it would hurt to whif to close out LB recruiting. Still clinging to hope for Kelly as well.

Pretty sure Jones is 50/50 at best, Michigan feels very good bout their chances.

until the culture/mindset changes and the coaching staff stops trying to play quantum physics on the field....it doesn't matter.

I am probably one of the most optimistic posters on IE (most of the time), but enough is enough already.

We could sign 25 5stars every year and find a way to F it up.

If we are not going to play the best players on the team after being on the team for 2 years because they can't grasp the game....well we are F'd!

Simplify the damn game. Let the kids play the game. With our current roster we should be pounding the hell out of teams with a running game, dominating time of possession, and forcing teams into playing catch up and throwing more.

Anyway, it just pisses me off watching Alabama play such a simple game and win all the time. Watching Clemson do what seems so obvious..run the QB and throw short gimmie routes and take what the D gives you.

Our intellectual / business approach that starts with Kelly's demeanor isn't going to win us a NC!

Sorry, but the Ohio St. game was a disgrace! Coaching staff was absolutely pathetic...

Injuries...yeah whatever. Look at the killer instinct our players had taking the field....there was ZERO!

How do you explain our playing down to the competition every week? Sure we play a tough schedule, sure we get everyone's best, sure... what BS! The BC game was laughable.

I don't know if it is ego, trying to build a nfl resume, or what, but enough is enough. We have got to make some serious changes and those changes have to come from the neck up. Recruiting class rankings mean nothing at this point.

this year was the 7th worst defense in Notre Dame History
Last year was the WORST!!!

Look at the talent we have on the field and explain the SH!T!

I read this quickly and thought you were referring to Daelin Hayes... my reaction was, "Welp, that was fast."

Guys lets not get this thread OT. Lax has put time into this being a place where we can get quick information regarding the closing on ND's recruiting class. For those concerns that Irishman77 eluded to, take it to BVG's thread or one of the numerous BK threads. This is for the home stretch of recruiting and thats it. Thank you.

Same story every year man. There's always a position we neglect in recruiting for who knows what reason and we end up taking flyers on the Jhonny Williams's of the world. Daniel Cage worked out but Mokwuah hasn't. Project players are supposed to be just that, projects. They aren't guys you are taking on because you actually need a player at that position.

Overall I am thrilled with the current crop! Anybody else at this point is icing. I do wish that we would have pulled in at least one DT that is ready to play, but I am pleased with where the roster stands currently along the line. It is time for some of them to step up though, and if we don't start to get more of a rotation there it will be more of the same going forward. With that said, I am still hoping for some good/great surprises come signing day.

We can expect a heavy dose of coaches at the homes of the prospects we are still after.

Starting (contact period begins) Thursday Elston will be making the rounds to our remaining LB targets. Kelly, McCulloch, and Jones.

Also, Irish247 continues to say that DL is still a remaining need but hasn't spoke about any specific targets. I'd be interested to hear if anybody has any info on if this is true or not and if there are any names out there.

Just ran across something very interesting on my FB feed of all places. Someone I know was tagged on a US Army Bowl pic that included McKinley and a Pop Warner coach from Ohio. Under the photo someone asked, "Is that your boy from Hoban? He going to Michigan?" he replied , "No, that's Javon McKinnley, Morris is going to ND."

I don't know nothing more than that.

ND isn't pushing for Morris until he visits as there are some "others" in play right now....

priority visits will be tomorrow to caleb k, shark and demetris

when jon jones makes his decision it will be a silent to coach and then announce at school nsd.

velus and davis still visiting for official

rivals

Interesting on Velus. He told scout USC he was visiting them and is scheduled to do so. Then this week he told them he's 50/50 on it.

1. Not sure I buy Velus Jones visiting this weekend from what I have heard.

2. Also I am not sure I buy Notre Dame is evaluating DT's. They are probably doing the smart thing and with all the coaching turnover, just testing who is open at positions.

3. After watching the Clemson/Bama game, Notre Dame does need to lock down elite defensive lineman, but taking a guy to take a guy isn't ideal either.

With that said, Notre Dame has depth at DT and it's not a priority. They took their swings at the elite DT's., so I am not really sure there is any benefit in taking another Elijah Taylor/Brandon Tiassum type of player in back to back classes when Mokwuah is in the class ahead of them.

So in regards to LB's, The only prospects on the board that have a chance of being here next fall are:

Kelly, McCulloch, Davis, Jones, Morris.
