I think EJ Banks could get his scholly back too, maybe we need to take that into account. Also, is there any need to hold back 1 spot because Badger will be back 2012.

im with you on that my friend i believe he has his scholarship they just kept him on the practice team. every one is forgetting about this guy. great athlete not saying hes the next "revis" but he is from the area and was a scoring machine. think he could step right in next year as a nickel back. or even crack the rotation pending injuries. i was stoked to get this guy when he was coming in. had some off the field issues but im pretty sure almost the same thing happen with one of our starting corners now.... left team but returned...think the year practicing with team but being left to the side will hopefully get this kid hungry to ball.

Dude...I completely agree with you. I think EJ would also be great as a punt returner. I think EJ would be great as a wideout even. He is a tremendous athlete and his High School film is ridiculous.

You are correct that Gray and Walls both had to leave school for a semester due to academics. That's the same thing that EJ is going through now, except he was able to pay his own way through school, which to me shows he is a RKG.

I started following recruiting a few years ago when we got the crist class. It's turned into a more than a hobby and with seeing the drama of recruits take place who needs reality tv. Lol

I don't know that EJ has ever fully recovered from his knee injury or if he ever will. Hopefully he can bounce back

I did not forget about Banks, I should have mentioned him in the "assumptions" however. Good kid, great high school player, but the knee will affect his career similar to James Aldridge (for those who do not remember, a former 5 star running back). Banks obviously was not as highly rated or recruited, but both had serious knee injuries their senior year of high school and did not live up to the hype in college. Banks injury:

Aldridge was nasty though...here is an old clip for a taste:

So anyway, unless we miss on recruits or some guys do not want to come back as 5th years, I do not feel he will get his scholarship back.

Couple more quick items:
1. Badger comes back in with the class of 2012, so he does not figure into the 85 limit this year.
2. OMM - I agree with you about centers, I am not sure who we have waiting in the wings but it was dissapointing when we passed on two interior linemen who we could have made good ones (Jordan Walsh and Cyrus Hobbi).
3. Thanks to everyone for appreciating the posts, I enjoy talking about ND with you guys - Go Irish!

I think odds are we go over on this class and some 5th year guy might lose his schollie (or are we counting on at least one QB transfer?). By my rough and subjective math:

Christian French: 50% chance
Ishaq Williams: 50% chance
Amir Carlisle and Savon Huggins: I think we are near guaranteed at least one of these guys.
Troy Niklas: 30% chance

And we have reasonable (assume at least 20%) shots at Brennan Scarlett, Nick Martin, Bennett Okotcha, and Shane Ray among others.

Just looking at just those guys, its hard to imagine us not getting at least 4. And then you have to consider the guys we don't even see on the radar right now... like Stanford commits if Harbaugh were to leave or Byron Moore or another dark horse.

well i thought people were here to answer thats all.....you'll have peace when the club doors open.....

I was just kidding around, not trying to give you a hard time. I think everyone appreciates active posters. It's what keeps the board moving.

I am not sure about going over on this class....a possibility if Massa and/or Hendrix had a meeting with Kelly to go over their hope of playing and said "if I am last on the depth chart after the spring then I want you to know I will transfer." I feel this conversation is a definite stretch and I expect the earliest to see a QB transfer will be the start of the season or during it next year (more likely after the 2011-2012 academic year).

As far as the 5th years..Kelly has to take Ruffer (Mr. never missed a FG), H Smith, G Gray, and Dever (all productive starters in positions of need). Minimal number would be 4...the 5th guy, in my opinion another OL, would defer their spot only to an elite recruit (Huggins, Drew, Shuler, Lyons, etc) signing late or on NSD.

Also I do not want to jinx it, but you have to give more then 20% chance signing Shane Ray. The guy got his offer on Monday and is visiting this weekend. His coach is a former ND player and he is the only confirmed non-committed recruit visiting surrounding himself with ND guys. We have a GREAT chance...but I see what you mean, all subjective.

My list is:

OLB Shane Ray
OLB Ishaq Williams
WR Amir Carlisle
OL Nick Martin
DB Bennett Okotcha

French is Questionable - I think it's 40% ND, 40% Iowa, 20% Oregon

Yeah that's basically what I'm thinking. Haven't heard much on Nick Martin recently though so it's hard to know what to think on him.

Maybe Martin can be that next developmental Center I've been carping about. I was also hoping for either another OT or another DE [so Carrico could move to offense; I'm already imagining Springman as a 6'8' pass-blocker there].

Dan Wenger is applying for a 6th year. Not a given that he'll get it, but it'll play a factor in how many scholarships we have to give out.

With our class full of DBs (cannot remember the last time we had this problem) what is left for our recruitments of Doran Grant, Wayne Lyons, and Miles Shuler?

Seems to me we could make Hardy and Farley into safteys
Thus keep Atkinson, Brown, and Okotcha as corners

Grant is definitly a corner, and Lyons is definitly a saftey...Shuler has an upcoming OV, is his spot back on offense as a slot? (then what if we got our 3rd WR commit from French?)

The first two are long shots I know...but it will be interesting to see what the staff does with Shuler, French, Carlisle, and Huggins all supposedly on the offensive side of the ball.

If any commit that is.

Grant's a long shot.

Lyons is gone, I think.

Shuler is a slot threat. Carlisle is the same.

French is a WR/OLB. Will end up as an OLB eventually.

Huggins is a pure RB. And a beast at that.

Good news, Wisconsin informed Huggins that they are full and cannot offer him another scholarship. His OV has since been cancelled
