Would love to know his max squat and deadlift numbers.

I wonder how serious he is about football, because I doubt his current training regiment is geared toward maximizing on-field performance.

Doesn't look like he is a D1 football prospect from quick google search

That's a great competitive lift with gear. The bench shirt compresses and acts almost like a spring. It makes the bottom of the lift easier, but not the top. Being able to lock out 700 is impressive, but the shirt has a huge impact on the total number. Still, a great lift for a young guy. But I would assume Larry Allen hit the lift raw. Apples and oranges.

His build frightens me. I feel like it has to be hard for him to breathe with all that weight on his chest from his pecs when he lays down.

So he benches 700 and isn't a big time prospect. This just goes to show you bench press doesn't mean **** in regards to football.

I agree to an extent. The bench has no real carryover to a football field. It is however, a gauge of upper body strength. Are there better ways to judge explosive power in the upper body? Probably. The reason the bench is so popular is because of the amount of weight that you can load. No other upper body exercise comes close. I completely see your point, but a 1000lb squat means nothing in regards to football as well. Same with a 40. I think too much is put on the outcome of these arbitrary numbers.

Was the former record with a shirt? What's the raw record? It's a record regardless though, kudos to him. Maybe Mack will recruit him as a corner.

+1. If I remember correctly, a bench shirt allows upper end pros to lift 200-300 more than without it. So, it makes a huge difference.

That said, he had wonderful form. Which makes it far more difficult than what most people do these days.

It doesn't work that well, no way a t-shirt can increase your max that much.......I don't buy it either

In related news, Raider's OL Jared Veldheer has gotten rather large in the off-season:

It's not just a t-shirt. I'm pretty sure it's heavily padded in the chest area so don't have to lower the bar very far and you can bounce the bar off of it...sorta.

Bench shirts come in single ply and double ply. Double ply is much thicker and can really raise your numbers. The thing with these shirts is they require almost a completely different lifting style. I worked out in STL with some buddies that were really big into powerlifting. One of my buddies could bench over 500 in the shirt and barely press 350 raw. I could put up 385 raw but couldn't push more than 405 in the shirt. I couldn't get the form or proper training to work with the shirt I was using for a short time.

They also have squat suits that do the same thing. Basically, the point of the gear is to hold your body in the proper position (arms out and chest compressed in bench shirts and for the squat suits it makes it almost impossible to squat without any weight). I was able to learn the squat suit in a single ply form and went from a 560 squat to a 672. These suits and shirts can really jump your numbers with the proper work and training in them.

Someone did say earlier that even though it helps on the bottom, you still have to lock it out. This kid has the strength to lock out 700lbs which is amazing! I don't consider a bench press in the shirt the same as a traditional bench but, a great accomplishment for this kid.

AJHesserSigNU - YouTube

Here is a link to the YouTube channel that has a lot of videos inside our gym during lifts. You see different "singlet" looking suits on us as well as the shirts on some of the bench vids. Lots of bench reps with 2 and 3 boards on the chest. This is to train on the lockout portion of the bench. One guy in here does 660lbs off a 3 board.

Just a little inside if you guys didn't want to scour the net for vids. All in one place for ya.
