I don't know if you all know yet or not, but for the past few weeks there has been a crew working on installing turf in the stadium. Should be ready in time for the blue-gold game.

No word yet on a jumbotron.

This would be all over Ndnation if true. I could see it now, they would be calling it the whoring of Notre Dame football.

It is snowing right now, so I'd rather not make the trek. If its nice in the next few days I'll see if I can get a shot on a run, but aside from that I have no physical proof.

If this is true, I love it. I love tradition for all it's worth, but if our emphasis in recruiting is to bring in speed, give them a surface that let's them show it off. These are the little things that ND can do without sacrificing tradition to get with the times and win some ball games. Oh and a jumbotron wouldn't hurt. Who really cares that much? It's great for fans and players.

Yeah no offense but I would think this would be all over the place. This would be pretty big news for notre dame fans. If you can provide proof, I'll rep you for breaking the news.

EDIT: I love the idea of field turf... but keep the field plain, the stripes in the end zone are classic.

I thought that they were just in there doing building repairs and upgrades. I find this hard to believe. I mean... NDnation hasnt even been nuked today.

I remember this conversation coming up on another site, where someone asked what they were doing. Then a bunch of people piped up with first hand knowledge of it being just construction. So unless you physically saw this, Chamellion, then I call BS.

Sorry homie, I see how the rumor could catch on or the assumption could be made, but I truly dont think you are right on this.

I too hope it's true, but I mean this more than likely is just a rumor. Hope I'm wrong.

This is all speculation...

I did a little bit of research and found this: Notre Dame Stadium Gets New Turf | FieldTurf - Synthetic Turf | Artificial Grass | Artificial Turf

From that report it said it was installed and would be ready for April 2008 after the previous turf had been used for 5 years. April 2012 puts us at 4 years since this report and there hasn't been any indication of any major turf replacements since then. I would say 4 years puts us at a close enough time to where new turf would be needed. Take it for what you want, but I'm pretty pumped IF it's artificial. They can always replace sod with more sod, and being a Steelers STH... I hate sod.

I hear the snow is glorious. Don't let that stop you from getting proof.

This was posted elsewhere but I thought they were doing concrete renovation.

I can confirm again per my sources that something is going on in or around the stadium.

I know that for a fact, but the same people that told me about the construction, told me that there is no field turf (they were hoping it was).

Nothing to get excited about with the construction either. Just maintenance and structural changes.

It is on this site somewhere else. I even found the company. This is a renovation to my knowledge and will cause some seating to be closed for the spring game.
