That doesn't have much to do with whether something is generic. No, no one can plop the "Northwestern" end zones onto their football field because, well, they're not "Northwestern." We're talking about the look and feel of the thing, not whether the words "Notre Dame Fighting Irish" are unique/trademarked to the school, because obviously they are. Yes, anyone CAN do simple stripes, but nobody DOES do simple stripes.Generic refers to something without a trademark that can be used anywhere. The stripes would fit any end zone, but the end zone design at Northwestern won't fit at ND.
