Working in public accounting, I too am sad for a generation that came before mine. I had to call a client and explain to them how to use Dropbox. It's a simple program that is used all around the world. I assumed a CFO of a $50M rev generating company would understand, yet here we are.

You're right, this guy has been around technology a lot longer than I have.

Been in IT since 72. Worked in extremely large corps like Sallie Mae and Anthem and small businesses that were in the $50M-$100M. One thing they all had in common? They all were led by CEO's that weren't tech savvy and relied on staff to handle things like using Dropbox or creating formulas in Excel. These people are smart or they wouldn't be where they are. They just don't prioritize using technology over handling finances, strategic planning, etc.

On the flip side. We hire a lot of college kids. One question we have learned to ask in the hiring process is, "what would you do if you were driving and you got a flat tire?" Amazing how many college aged people, even the out of state kids, will answer with "call my mom for help". Leading up to the question we talk about following a process... step 1, leads to step 2 and not cutting corners... so we dress the question up as we want them to tell us step by step what they would. Remain calm, call mom, put my blinkers on. I would say 2 out of 10 will actually talk about changing their own tire.

...are you hiring them to change tires? Because if you're hiring law clerks or cashiers, I'm not sure how that's really relevant. I'm just picturing a big picture of Mike Rowe hangs on the wall in this room as you judge others for having different skills.

Reminds me of when I got my CDL and the instructor went on a rant about how his grand daughter is an underclassmen at Princeton and how "all those professors couldn't pass this exam. They're idiots." Lol ok pal

Exactly, that's the point. I may be considerably younger than you, but you'd absolutely school me on anything IT. To generalize a generation as being stupid/lazy for not knowing something is tacky.

I find it amusing how executives work. I've had to walk these older guys through basic shit like excel formulas...while my old man can run circles around me on anything tech. Like bruh this isn't windows 95 how the hell do you know this

I own a Play It Again Sports.

So yes. Change tires, fix tires, see if a bike works. We do repairs and other things. When things like baseball nets come in it takes them 2 hours to put together when its a net that is supposed to take literally minutes (its happened more than you think) that is a problem.

I'll say this i think Trump is wrong again by not going on the 20th. I dislike Biden too. But have respect for the position.

If you ever feel like you're talking to yourself here and no one responds to you, this is why. You provide nothing of substance and you sound like Keith Olbermann after one too many cocktails.

My reps say otherwise.
Others just aren't as vocal as me and I used to be in that boat. I'm just not anymore, since the start of this pandemic and the misinformation that has been detrimental to human lives not just Americans and the way a lot of Radical Republicans on here. / proud boy/neo-nazi views/

But don't worry. I consider you part of the radical right that I have a problem with. So you are showing your loyalty to who you are. Your brainwashed in tribalism and most like always will be.
I was mostly conservative but these last 4 years I've changed my mind and with recent happenings of idiots on your side, who you and others on here continue to support because you feel wronged about race riots from the summer.

This was an attack on American Democracy and the radical Republicans (at best) and white nationalist/hate breeders at worst on this site fail to acknowledge this. You and others on here aren't looking at this through a Patriotic lens of the severity off this.

The Irish Envy Maga crew gets no sympathy from me. If anyone still supports trump after what has transpired will always be trash to me and that will never change.

So you, Northy, Rhode, Irish#1,(YJ to a lesser degree) bishop can attack my mental health. Keep up trash put downs about my family and wife, the ageism, the Xenophobic comments.
It doesn't phase me. It fuels me to out you guys for what you all are.
Radicals at best/ Neo Nazis nationalists at worst.
As far from a true Patriot as can be.
Consider me a mod of intolerance to what you guys stand for.
And as long as you all continue to post this way. I will be here.
Anyone behind trump at this point... once again, has no ground to stand on.

All generations have their issues. They just vary from one to the next. Interesting point. Doing research on security, I came across several articles on studies that show millennials are more likely to download a virus than older generations that use technology on a regular basis.

At this point you are damned if you and damned if you dont. You are sort of entering the lions den where most of the attendees are still trying to get you removed from office even as he would be sitting there and after.

Just some random thoughts I have with everything going on, feel free to pass over them as they're not directly related to the events, but want to write it out somewhere.

I am conservative on most issues, but am liberal on some. For example, I am very liberal with immigration. I've always been anti-Trump, but tolerated him for the most part because I didn't have a problem with some of his policies that were pushing through-- the way I looked at it at least, some good was getting done with the bad, despite how embarrassing he was. I didn't vote for him either election, but I did vote congressionally for losing Republicans the last three. I don't know if I can continue to do that though until the party really takes a deep look in the mirror. The fact that I can count the amount of Republicans who make sense on one hand is scary, and it seems as the left continues to get elected well educated socialists, the right's response is to elect idiot conspiracy theorists. It's not even the events at the capitol that have pushed me away. It's the continual lying over voter fraud by the president, literally pushing conspiracy theories, while the majority of republican elected officials supported them to gain points with Trump supporters rather than speak what they know is true. The events at the capitol are just the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't think I can ever vote Republican again as long as Trumpism is embraced. I would gladly welcome a center third party, but don't see how that works here.

This is where I'm at as well.

They dont want him to go away at this point.

They want to pulverize him into ash, piss on the ashes, pack the piss soaked ashes into a cannon, and shoot the piss soaked ashes into outer space.

Sasse says Trump was 'delighted' and 'excited' by reports of Capitol riot

“As this was unfolding on television, Donald Trump was walking around the White House confused about why other people on his team weren’t as excited as he was as you had rioters pushing against Capitol Police trying to get into the building,” Sasse told conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt in an interview. “That was happening. He was delighted.”

Im afraid the intended outcome of this choice will be the exact opposite of what they thought it would be.

Twitter and Facebook are only coming to their senses because the Democrats can pass laws starting in about two weeks. There's going to be a lot of "how do we Trump-proof our Democracy?" conversations and social media entities are scared they'll be in the cross hairs of regulation.

That does seem odd, but kind of makes sense. My generation loves to Torrent (Limewire was the truth), so I could totally see that being a big gateway into it. We've never really respect or understood computer viruses, and with our use of computers it's likely true.

I can program a robot to traverse a maze using C++ but I have never once changed my own oil.

My dad used to make me rotate his tires, only changed oil a few times. Glad I can do it but I probably won't do it again until/unless I have children. I can pay a guy to do it for very little and he will do it better than me lol.

The people who engage in class warfare have more in common than they think IMO.

Its usually older guys with blue collar jobs and blue collar wages against millennials with white collar jobs and blue collar wages.

They are both being screwed by the same enemy, and it isnt each other.

Yeah, it makes him a martyr. But “they” (Big Tech) are in a pickle because this shitstorm is in no small part their doing.

In more lighthearted news, I’m not sure why I find this so funny but I do: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Hello I am brand new to Twitter, what are you guys up to</p>— John Barron (@barronjohn1946) <a href="https://twitter.com/barronjohn1946/status/1347694753786200064?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 9, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

He'd probably still be Prez if he never had a Twitter account. lol

Lmao yeah almost certainly. Wait... does this mean I can't go back now and see his 2010-2014 tweets? His Twitter account used to be straight bipartisan fire. Tweets about Coca Cola, Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart, all sorts of Americana/pop culture stuff.

Im afraid the intended outcome of this choice will be the exact opposite of what they thought it would be.

Yeah I suppose he'll just go to parler or something. For those on the board who think I'm a bit out there, that place (from what I hear) makes your crazy uncle's Facebook look like amateur hour.

The devoted followers aren't going to be very pleased.

It is what it is. Get your popcorn and light your prayer candles just in case.

Parlar has been taken off Google App Store. Apple likely to follow suit.
