I haven't read the article yet, but "American Moses" is a parody song from Book of Mormon and the name of a biography of Brigham Young. I doubt Time is actually calling Mrs. Clinton an American Moses.

....

In her 1969 commencement address to her class at Wellesley College, Clinton called politics “the art of making what appears to be impossible possible.” In this, she has succeeded. Like an American Moses, she was an imperfect prophet, leading women to the edge of the Promised Land. Now it’s up to another woman to enter it.

Part of that overrun was probably HRC having leather seats with her initials embroided in them

Because of the special needs there is always going to be costs that drive it up, but you can bet that Boeing has padded things quite nicely. They'll add their fee to any subcontractors fees instead of passing it along. Boeing has had this reputation for a long time. While I'm a big fan of the military and believe on staying on top of technology, I do hope and believe Trump will go after the military budget. We seen for 25+ years reports of $150 hammers and $5,000 toilets, yet nothing is ever done.

Meh... that was a "listen dude.... knock it off.. You arent even in office yet. Dont screw with our money." The quotes from the Boeing guy are straight PR speak.

I guess the beauty of Trump is that I still cant see if he is truly moroninc based on his Social media behavior or if he is really just baiting everyone.

I'm doubting the CEO said much more than congrats, and we'll see what we can do. Muilenberg is too smart than to try and push Trump. Baiting or moronic, DM knows the Don is capable of stupid shit, and doesn't want to risk anymore twitter war. Everyone knows Trump is a buffoon so the only loser in this can be Boeing if things were to progress.

As someone who worked with Boeing on a multi-billion dollar contract (that started off much smaller) and watched them milk the Government for every penny possible with all sorts of outlandish expenses and unnecessary redundancy...

...but not knowing anything about the actual Air Force One contract...

...I think it's completely plausible that there is tons of unnecessary cost baked in to that $4 billion number. Government contracting is all about getting your hand in the honey pot and grabbing as much of that sweet tax payer money as you can while delivering the bare minimum of service/sucking up to the CO for a good review.

...Yup.

About the only work I do now is A&AS/SETA so I can be the asshole that beats on Cronies and Thieves to deliver...government is in its own way though because they aren't ever willing to Terminate. The most you'll get is terminate for convenience, and hardly ever do you see the government light someone up on a CPAR.

Let's not forget...the federal Dept of Ed is 100% unconstitutional.

Oh no the guys from the 18th century who didn't have any clue what a modern economy and educational system would look like, and who didn't even know what germs were, didn't call for national education oversight.

They did, however, note that dead men shouldn't govern the living and agreed that times change and so does government. If you want to sue the government and take your case to the Supreme Court, go right ahead. The rest of us choose to not act like it's the 1700s any more.

My problem with Trump on this is...why Air Force One? That seems like the last place I'd be criticizing government spending. Why not go after the bloated F-35 program, or call for an audit of the Pentagon's spending? Or move to restrict campaign financing so Congressmen aren't encouraged to look the other way on government waste/corporate profit that plagues our government?

And this mindset is why your side lost the election and will continue to do so for years to come. Just totally out of touch with mainstream America, erroneously taking the intellectual shortcut of putting everyone who doesn't agree with your view of the world in the category of uneducated deplorables, and having no clue what those people actually believe or need. By all means, keep doing it! Worked out quite nicely this cycle.

Trump's words, not mine. "I love the poorly educated." Of course he does, he's a con man.

Anyway Trump beat the second most unpopular candidate in history without achieving the majority of the votes and by using the laughably false premise that he can reverse the course of manufacturing's decline. What part of that am I supposed to respect?

I don't think there is anything even controversial about suggesting that the Republican Party has an inherent interest in not supporting proper science education. You'll have that when the party's platform--and nominated head of the EPA--do not believe in Climate Change. Again, they're the only major political party in the developed world to be so totally insane on that basic issue. And when people receive educations, they're likely to laugh at the GOP the same why I started to after I listened to some science classes.

The GOP is losing the college educated at a pretty fast rate. As they become a party completely of the "white working class," the gap will only widen and they will, I assume, continue to attempt to dismantle the Department of Education and back inferior education policies.

Because it's the president's plane. And it sets a tone ... from the top down.

It probably would be the last place you'd be criticizing government spending. But then he waived the $400K Presidential Salary. I have no doubt you wouldn't start there either.

I doubt AF1 will be the only thing he goes after. It was an easy bounce back for Boeing's earlier comments on TPP, NAFTA, and China. I know you don't have any issues with China per se, but a lot of us do.

All he has to do is release his tax returns and prove it.

I wish he would. I'm betting it will be CNN front page for days, and much ado about nothing. Even so, it will likely give birth to several conspiracy theories for the libs to focus on for the next year or so. Hey but what about Wisconsin recount. Well spent $$.

Because it's the president's plane. And it sets a tone ... from the top down.

I can respect starting with the Air Force One program if his tweets were immediately following by a call for larger systemic changes and an appointment of a team to do so. I would then completely agree with you that it's a great symbolic move to spearhead some accountability.

But come on, this is Donald Trump we're talking about. Empty rhetoric piled on top of empty rhetoric. Given his history he may try to cancel the Air Force One program so he can charge the government for using his Trump jet!

For the record, Trump was given a half-true by politifact, with the biggest criticism of the tweet being that it's basically 3.7 billion and over twelve years, for the entire program of Air Force Ones and its service...not a single one-time payment for a single jet, which in insinuated with "Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!"

It probably would be the last place you'd be criticizing government spending. But then he waived the $400K Presidential Salary. I have no doubt you wouldn't start there either.

Yes that absolutely would be on the list of last places to cut. For good reason too, a little history on the matter from when Washington tried to kindly refuse a Presidential salary:

Why Donald Trump Needs to Take a Salary - POLITICO Magazine

For these reasons, the first Congress refused Washington’s offer to serve without pay—and in doing so, consciously set a precedent for the future. It did not want to risk that Washington’s refusal would become the norm rather than the exception. As representative John Page of Virginia put it, “the Constitution requires that he shall receive a compensation, and it is our duty to provide it.” Note that Congress did not try to evade the spirit of the Constitution by providing him a token salary. Congress voted Washington an annual salary of $25,000; the president backed down and accepted the payment. It was an implicit recognition that future presidents could be corruptible, and should be bound to the public interest as tightly as possible.

Two important principles flowed from that move. First, in ensuring the president a livelihood in office, and in safeguarding a president of ordinary means from the temptation to sell out, it opened the highest public office—at least in possibility—to those who were not independently wealthy. Second, in minimizing future presidents’ need to rely on outside sources of income, it confirmed that the president would be a true public servant, beholden to the people who elected him.

Weren't you taking time off from hissy fits until after Recruiting was done?

Hissy fits huh?

Yeah I took a few days and figured that this is probably the juiciest IE season: coaching changes and cabinet appointments, and figured I'd be a fool to sit on the sidelines right now.

Yeah so much nothing there that is justifies being the only guy to not reveal them in like half a century.

Hey but what about Wisconsin recount. Well spent $$.

We have to go find those millions of people who voted illegally, don't we? We can't just ignore that, the sanctity of the voting booth must be restored, the President said millions voted illegally and gee golly we need to look into it by a recount, right?

Sorry, you said you didn't have a problem with China owning so much of our debt, per se... I figured if you had a problem with China.... you wouldn't want them as the largest foreign owner of our debt??

Didn't know Jill Stein was interested in voter fraud?

Yeah let's not conflate the statements. I'm not worried about China buying as many bonds as they're buying. If for no other reason, we want them to have an interest in our success.

But that doesn't mean I don't have criticisms of China and some our policies with them and in the region. But China isn't the enemy they are often made out to be and I think too many Americans proceed as if we're destined for rivalry in the 21st century. I am not in favor of being needlessly antagonistic...yet another fault of the Trump campaign.

Didn't know Jill Stein was interested in voter fraud?

No Jill Stein is a worthless hack trying to save face with Liberals. But we can't ignore the bigger issue: MILLIONS OF PEOPLE VOTED ILLEGALLY, thus, the recounts are justified, no? (Boy Trump really didn't think that tweet through, we can agree on that?)

A lot of folks would disagree with you on China...
Sorry for conflating...
Simple way to kill all the voter fraud crap. Drivers license or state ID card... Still stumped on how requiring ID is considered trampling folks rights... works pretty well in several states.. It's required here in GA... I live and work in very diverse locations. Nobody seems to feel trampled on.

U.S. judge reverses order requiring vote recount in Michigan | Reuters
By Gina Cherelus and Dan Whitcomb
Wed Dec 7, 2016 | 9:29pm EST

A federal judge in Michigan on Wednesday revoked his order requiring a recount of the state's presidential vote sought by Jill Stein, siding with a state appeals court that found the Green Party candidate had no grounds to mount the challenge.

U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith's ruling has the effect of halting the recount in Michigan, at least for now, following conflicting rulings a day earlier by federal and state appeals courts.

The Michigan Court of Appeals on Tuesday ordered the recount stopped, while the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Goldsmith's earlier decision and said the process should proceed. The dueling rulings had both sides claiming victory but left the future of Stein's bid unclear.

Goldsmith, in deferring to the Michigan appeals court, said Stein had not presented valid reasons for him to override that court's decision, which found that she was not an "aggrieved" candidate with standing to demand a recount.

The Stein campaign said in a statement following Goldsmith's ruling that it had appealed again, to the Michigan Supreme Court, and sought to disqualify two justices there because they had been mentioned by Republican President-elect Donald Trump as potential nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"In a huge victory for Michigan taxpayers and the rule of law, this recount is stopped," Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican who opposes the recount, said in a statement.

In addition to Michigan, Stein is trying to have the votes from the Nov. 8 presidential election recounted in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. All three states were key to Trump's victory.

The recounts are extremely unlikely to change the outcome of the election. But Stein, who got only about 1 percent of the vote, has said that they are necessary to ensure the integrity of voting systems.

Losing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign has said it will take part in the recounts.

Stein sued in federal court in Pennsylvania on Monday to try to force a statewide recount of presidential votes there.

In a setback for Stein's team, the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday denied a full forensic analysis of the city's voting machines and their software. Stein's team had argued that such an analysis was the only way to guarantee the accuracy of the city's election results.

"The court's decision will deny voters the chance to know the truth about this election," Ilann Maazel, lead counsel for Stein's campaign recount effort in Pennsylvania, said in a written statement.

Donald Trump Picks Linda McMahon to Lead Small Business Administration - WSJ

By PETER NICHOLAS
Updated Dec. 7, 2016 5:31 p.m. ET

President-elect Donald Trump named former professional-wrestling executive Linda McMahon as his pick for the cabinet-level post of head of the Small Business Administration.

...

In a statement, Mr. Trump said: “Linda has a tremendous background and is widely recognized as one of the country’s top female executives advising businesses around the globe. She helped grow WWE from a modest 13-person operation to a publicly traded global enterprise with more than 800 employees in offices worldwide. Linda is going to be a phenomenal leader and champion for small businesses and unleash America’s entrepreneurial spirit all across the country.”

...

Late in the 2016 campaign, Ms. McMahon—who had previously backed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s presidential bid—gave $6 million to a super PAC backing Mr. Trump. That made her one of the top supporters of Mr. Trump’s presidential bid.

...

In a statement released by the transition, she said: “Our small businesses are the largest source of job creation in our country.”

“I am honored to join the incredibly impressive economic team that President-elect Trump has assembled to ensure that we promote our country’s small businesses and help them grow and thrive,” Ms. McMahon said.

I think the data does tell a story, but maybe not the whole story.
I wonder how many of those liberal "educated" folk will still consider themselves liberal once they have spent 20 years working, raising kids, and trying to save a little.

A lot of my more liberal friends from college days are a lot less liberal than they use to be.
I know I've become much more economically conservative since college. I have become less conservative however in other areas. I've always considered myself an independent, but I've voted more GOP the last 15 years.

Trump to nominate Pruitt to lead U.S. environmental agency: statement | Reuters
Thu Dec 8, 2016 | 6:39am EST

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, a critic of federal environmental regulation, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, his transition team said on Thursday.

The choice, which enraged environmental activists and cheered the oil industry, signals that the Republican president-elect plans to move ahead with his promise to cut back regulation and free up drilling and coal mining, in a likely reversal of Democratic President Barack Obama's environmental agenda.

"For too long, the Environmental Protection Agency has spent taxpayer dollars on an out-of-control anti-energy agenda that has destroyed millions of jobs, while also undermining our incredible farmers and many other businesses and industries at every turn," Trump was quoted as saying in a statement from the transition team.

Pruitt has been a harsh opponent of Obama's measures to curb climate change and has helped lead a legal effort by some states to throw out an integral piece of Obama's climate change strategy that requires states to curb carbon output.

Since becoming the top prosecutor for the oil- and gas-producing state in 2011, Pruitt, 48, has launched multiple lawsuits against regulations put forward by the agency he is now poised to lead, suing to block federal measures to reduce smog and curb toxic emissions from power plants.

"The American people are tired of seeing billions of dollars drained from our economy due to unnecessary EPA regulations, and I intend to run this agency in a way that fosters both responsible protection of the environment and freedom for American businesses," Pruitt was quoted as saying.

The transition team statement called Pruitt "a national leader against the EPA’s job-killing war on coal" who will help implement Trump's energy plan.
