Flying down to Florida in the morning. Spending 4 days at Disney then 5 days at my inlaws house in Ormond Beach.
While you're at the House of the Mouse....tell wizards that dudes wearing Mickey ears in the parks is kind of stupid. And remind him that his entire wardrobe is just awful.

As long as I find the balance between "dads only drinking so he can better enjoy the experience" and "dads saying inappropriate things to Disney characters again" Ill be able to survive
I know you don't have the option, but going to Disney with just the wife is so much more enjoyable.

We did that the year before our kids showed up. Had a blast. I just wish they offered more adult beverages at the parks then like they do now. We stayed at one of Disney hotels a couple years ago and it had a Jack and Coke icee machine in the food court

The wife went 50 years ago when it first opened, so we went during Halloween in 2021 for the Disney 50th celebration. She dressed like a scarecrow and I was Obi-Wan Kenobi.

That awesome.
Im fully committed to ruining my families day. I bought a pair of cargo jean shorts, white New Balances, a visor, and a fanny pack. I have finally reached suburban vacation mode dad.

Ill ask my family for some places
Taking the family to Tybee Island and Savannah in June… anyone have any good recommendations for food or sites to see in Savannah? We’ve been before, and we have the places we like on Tybee covered, but we only did a day trip into Savannah last time. Will be going into Savannah a few days this go-around.

Definitely going to The Crab Shack for a seafood boil, but no must-have meals other than that planned.

Grand Haven and the UP are quite different experiences but both are great vacation options. I love road-tripping the UP if you end up settling on that as a vacation destination.

UP is pretty great because it's rather inexpensive. We did a 10 day road trip with our Husky and I think maybe spent around a grand on hotels/Bnbs for 10 nights? And that was inclusive of pet fees for the rooms, which probably added to up $100+, easily. No shortage of camping, either.

If you do end up doing the UP, Houghton and Copper Harbor are two must-see areas. Breathtaking views and Houghton is a really cool town.
Some of the hot spots you should hit on your way up to those two places:
  • Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (not just the typical main-tourist spot in Munising, but there are some really great hiking trails and scenic views/sand dunes east of Munising in the park).
  • Marquette: just an awesome city. Fantastic restaurants and breweries, particularly Blackrocks, which features some of my absolute favorite beers. their IPAs are incredible, if you're into them.
    • Also, hit Sugarloaf Mountain for a quick, pretty easy hike with incredible site seeing.
  • Porcupine Mountains -- fantastic hiking, from beginner trails to advanced.
  • Kitch-iti-kipi Spring

If/when you ever find yourself in Copper Harbor, start with Hunter's Point Park for an easy yet enjoyable hike, then shoot up the Brockway Mountain Drive. It'll take your breath away. If you're doing a couple days stay in Copper Harbor, you could hit Estivant Pines for some additional hiking.

I used to travel to Grand Haven for work a couple of times a year. Great little town. I hear the room & board places book up early, so camping may be your only option.

Anyone even been to North Captiva Island in Florida? Wife found a house on VRBO that I booked last week. Small little island that is golf cart only and looks really low key. Son might get bored but the relaxation factor looks great there

besides the UP, the real vacay spot is Traverse City . Leelanau Peninsula, Charlevoix etc.
Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes
Wine, smoked chub out on the peninsula, sail Grand Traverse bay......
Sigh... my childhood was spent on the lakes or ski resorts up there... was heaven. Especially nice for Fall colors, and for Cherry Festival in July.

Spent time on Sanibel/Captiva for 30 years. Be aware those islands were decimated in the hurricane ayear ago, including the causeway from Ft. Myers over to Sanibel. Gotta believe there's still al ot of rebuild going on.
The beaches there are great, some of the best shelling in the world.

Wonderful....the jet won't be able to take off cause my daughter is a shell junkie. According to the host most everything at least on north Captiva is close to normal again

Things to consider Michigan (nonup):
Portage lake resort-turn of the century hotel with good amenities
Ludington- quiet harbor life. Also take a look at Pentwater. Renting a house in town with save money
Muskegon- the state park is great, the harbor has been redone and is much less industrial
Platt river- great canoe rental float fun family event
Frankfort- great smoke house and a couple of good breweries

Ww were in Venice in Dec.
All but 2 fishing/shrimping boats in Pt. Charlotte were destroyed...so you gotta go to Tamp or further north for *fresh* (as in caught today) fish.

So was in a couple different spots in in Europe this week for business, fly back to US tomorrow. Fly out of Amsterdam, decided to catch a quick train to the city for dinner. Never been before. It's a fabulous city. Can't wait to return. But wasn't paying attention and ended up in the red light district. Oops. Don't tell the Mrs.

Went in college. Tell people it was my favorite place and that is leaving the craziness of the red light district out.
