I can get this one used (allegedly in great condition) for $220. Any idea if this would be a good buy? By all google search results, it's a great camera. Again, do not require anything fancy, but looking for an upgrade from taking pics with the smart phone.

Is a "DSLR" type the way to go, even if its not this camera? Seems like it uses some reflection technology that I'm not smart enough to understand. Seems like the competing type to this would be 'mirror less cameras'.

DSLR is going to give you more options when you are looking to add stuff to your camera, I also think the quality is better IMO

Koon, my wife and I have this very camera, and she LOVES it!! We spent extra and got the extra lens. She's no professional so it takes care of everything she wants in her pictures. Easy to use as well!!

Got back from London not too long ago. Went to four EPL matches at Stamford Bridge, White Hart Lane, Emirates Stadium and Selhurst Park. If you get a chance and are into European football, I can't recommend Stamford Bridge enough. They also have tours of the grounds and museum which are awesome. Also, Stonehenge is something else.

Heading to Paris in two weeks, going to catch a PSG match at Parc de Princes and do all the other touristy stuff most likely. Anyone have any suggestions for Paris?

Going to NYC over Presidents Day. Last year we hit the typical places, World Trade Center, Trump Tower, Brooklyn Bridge, central park, Bankee Stadium.

This year plan on hitting the Met, Empire State building, any suggestions??

Billy Joel is at the Garden on 2/22. If you've never seen him live, I recommend it. And if you've never seen him at the Garden, it's a different level of awesome. Maybe I'll see you there.

Oh, and McSorely's Old Alehouse. Oldest brewery in Manhattan, near Chinatown. Only accept cash, and they only have two items on the menu: dark beer and light beer.

Also, The Stand or the Comedy Cellar if you're into stand up comedy. Incredibly famous people randomly show up and do a set all the time on the most random of nights. Look for tickets ASAP though.

I've been to Billy in Minneapolis. Graduation present for myself. He's fantastic. I'll be back here by then unfortunately or I'd definitely go again.

Thanks for the other recommendations, this will be a fun time.

Nikon makes a very good camera, as does Canon. I have a Pentax DSLR. I love mine. Make sure to get a large capacity SD card so you can hold a lot of pics.

I wound up on ebay and ended up getting same brand but a better model. Got the Nikon D5000 instead of the D3000. Both were used, but total cost for the D5000 ended up being $226, and the D3000 was $220. Shipping tomorrow, very excited to play with it. Hoping the interface is intuitive and easy to use, don't need anything crazy fancy.

You'll have lots of fun. Where are you going?

Most everything south of Venice... few days in Rome, a day in Pompei, weekend in Venice, couple days in Florence, Capri, few other stops, like Pisa/Naples, along the way.

Very very nice. Have everything planned already? Or is it a guided tour?

I'm far from an expert on these things but I guess it's a guided tour??...

This is coming from someone who has never done this before so maybe I'm misunderstanding things but I always thought guided tours were heavily structured group things step for step/constantly with a tour guide...

As I understand it the only real whole group aspect is the travel from city to city/ region to region... This is structured as: Get off the plane- Here is your guide/group let's go to Rome- The local host is available here if you require that, if not see you in three days- Three days come, okay everyone let's go to Pompeii, once we get there the local host is available or you can go off on your own... rise repeat, rinse repeat... I believe the only part where it's structured more rigidly is a stay in Tuscany one night where everyone stays with a local host family for a special dinner of some sort...

I'll be honest tho the details are all being handled by my 'financial adviser'... her and my mom teamed up and told me they wanted to go to Rome, so I was like, 'Yeah I can't fight both of you so let's just go to Rome"
